Newly Introduced Songs

Good morning, Kittens and Dawgs!   I’m taking things slow in Blogosphere, not quite so quick to push my posts live.  There are a lot of folks skipping the whole bloggy thing inleu of doing the whole summer thingies like vacations and a variety of activities that keep them outdoors instead of inside all the time.  That’s purrrfectly fine.   We all need time away doin’ our thang to get our mojo back in order to bring our A-game to blogging community.

We tried two new pizzerias in town.  Actually, they aren’t new but this was our first experience with these long running establishments — Little Joe’s Pizza in Farragut and Harby’s Pizza & Deli just off Broadway.  I really wanted these places to wow me but the best I can say is their good for a change and we’ll probably get pizza from these places again.  However, neither one can replace our favorite, Pizza Hut! How was your weekend?

Here’s a random Monday morning photo share. 🙂

July is the most popular summer tourist month. Last year the Smoky’s got about 11.3 million visitors to the park, not all in July, but once I read that the park gets more than a million visitors during its peak month.  It’s generally a nuthouse this time of the year.   I snapped this photo of a vintage camping trailer at Water Rock Knob overlook (about 45 minutes north of Cherokee, NC) on the Blue Ridge Parkway last month, which totally depicted the season that we are enjoying.

This week’s mewsic theme is ‘your choice‘.  I put together a 5 newly introduced or stumbled-upon tunes for your listening pleasure. I hope you enjoy my song selections!

  1. I Hope You’re Happy ~ Blue October (<—-YT channel link) newest single released earlier this year. According to their website they have plans to release an album sometime this year with the same name.
  2. Flightless Bird, American Mouth was used in the Twilight movie series and appears on Iron & Wine (Neo-Folk) 2007 album, The Shepherd’s Dog.  The bands mewsic has played on popular TV shows like Gray’s Anatomy, The L Word, and House M.D.
  3. Gypsy Girl from Steven Tyler’s 2016 #19 début album, WE’RE ALL SOMEBODY FROM SOMEWHERE on Billboard 200 charts and debuted #1 on the Top Country Albums chart.  Yet, I didn’t hear it for the first time somewhere around the end of last summer or early fall.
  4. What Took You So Long released in 2001 from Emma Bunton (Spice Girl band member) solo album, A GIRL LIKE ME.
  5. Falling In Love At A Coffee Shop comes from Landon Pigg (Indie Pop) 2009 THE BOY WHO NEVER album but previous used in two TV commercials: De Beers and AT&T. Pigg’s earlier career starts with his song featuring on Grey Anatomy’s 6th season finale, This Is The Way It Ends.

#2 on my playlist…DD#2 introduced to us In March when she came home for my FIL funeral.   We took her and DS to dinner.  On our way home, she shared this song from her iTunes playlist.  It’s great fun when our kids share their mewsical discoveries.  All the others selections I stumbled upon in recent days or months usually from my YT browsing.  What did you think of my mewsic selections? Are these new-to-you?  Do you like any of these well enough to buy?

Colette is experiencing eye problems and isn’t actively co-hosting but you might find her boogieing with us occasionally. I asked that you continue to keep her in prayer.  Right now, I want you join fellow co-hosts: XmasDolly (Party Coordinator), StacyAlana, and this month’s co-host, Michelle, on  the dance floor (ONLY link mewsic posts).  Let’s get this party started!

[tweetthis]I’m dancing to ‘your choice’ #music with the #MondaysMusicMovesMe gang! Join the party![/tweetthis]

Get energized, feel encouraged, be the change the world needs, and begin with “SPARKS” hosted by McGuffy’s Readers. Have a sparkletastic day!

Keep those tunes playing and your body swaying, I’ll see ya around the cyber block!

Cathy

  1. I had a lot of good pizza when we were in NJ visiting my daughters. Today after I got back home I ordered pizza from Papa John’s. I was happy with that, but the NJ pizza might have been better.

    1. Lee,

Papa John’s has a good flavor and we used to have it delivered more often but they have fallen into the trap of scaling back on toppings like so many restaurants do while keeping the price the same. I don’t like pizzas that are skimpy on the toppings and if I find this is the case I usually complain to the store and corporate. Usually, on a local level they will try to correct the problem by offering a replacement but every time after they fall right back into the same pattern, so we just don’t order from them for a long, long, long time. I would love to try authentic Chicago or NY style pizzas!

  2. Maybe it’s my mood (living kind of in the past today) but none of them really asked for a second listen. No problem, though; it’s always good to be open to new music and it was good being dragged out of the past. I’m a little surprised that the peak season for the Smoky’s is July – maybe that’s why upstate New York seems a little deserted right now? Maybe everyone is there? Those are beautiful mountains and clouds. But if you come to upstate New York now, probably no crowds and certainly good pizza await you.

    1. Alana,

The Smoky’s will be very busy the rest of this month and straight through August. We’ll begin to see a slight decline after Labor Day which I’m looking forward to before the fall foliage visitors swoop in on us. We’d love to visit the Adirondack mountains. Perhaps someday, we’ll decide to visit in your neck of the woods and you can bet that we’ll try authentic New York style pizza. As always, it’s great having you to join me on the dance floor even if my mewsic didn’t do a lot for ya. 🙂

  3. Really cool photo, CATHY! I’m kind of a sucker for any photograph with a travel trailer in it, anyhow. But I love the vista view in the background. Sweet! Makes me wanna do a road trip.

    Stephen T. McCarthy Reviews…

    1. Stephen,

Thanks for visiting. The view from Water Rock Knob is pAwesome! We love to drive up there just to have a picnic. What surprises us so often is the short drive from Maggie Valley, NC to there the temperature often times is 20 degrees cooler and that feels purrty darn good in the summer!

  4. This is an epic awesome blog, Cathy. You speak my language. I would love to sit in on one of your speaking engagements. I am spellbound at just the thought… Oh, and, this is my favorite blog in a very long time. I was well aware of the Baby Spice track, and like it a lot. However, the other four are… you know what I am going to say, don’t you?
Okay, here is comes, me dwelling on the obvious… the other four are new to me… and I like them all.

Thanks for sharing… I owe you, big time.

    1. Myke,

Ahh, my speaking engagement? Me? Well…if I ever get one then I hope you can do just that. 🙂 You owe me? Alright, if you insist I’ll take it all in tens and twenties, please. lol I happy you enjoy stopping by my little niche in Blogosphere. It’s great having such good friends swing by for some company and mewsic.

  5. Hi Cathy, I’m not much of a fan of the “current” mewsic. However, I like your selection. with “Gypsy Girl” being my fav. And pizza – any time of the week for me. Love it! It’s good to see your cheerful post on a Monday and have a great week.

    1. Eugenia,

I enjoy “Gypsy Girl” the more I listen to it. Steven Tyler pulls country off quite well but then he has talent. I’m not a huge fan of the newer mewsic, either. It’s really hard to find artists who don’t sound like everyone else and who can sing…really sing without the help of studio magic. Oh, I’m right there with you. I can eat pizza any day of the week, too.

  6. Hi Cathy,
What a great playlist! Most were new to me and I enjoyed all of them. Naturally my favorite is Steven Tyler’s “Gypsy Girl”. I like his Country slant. It’s different and shows he has good range. Blue October is from out this way (they started in Houston — I’m in Austin; and apparently one of the band members did a guest DJ stint on one of the alternative radio stations here in Austin). I liked the song “I Hope You’re Happy” but the video was kinda odd. I didn’t get it. Did you?? It was kinda eerie I thought. But the song was good.
I love the artwork for the second song, from their Shepherd’s Dog album. It’s a nice song.
I really liked both of the last songs, Emma Bunton’s “What Took You So Long” and Landon Pigg’s “…Coffee Shop” song. That last one was a perfect way to wrap up your set list.

So you’re a pizza fan too! I’m a pizza snob, coming from New York and to me, there’s no better pizza in the world than the pizza in New York and Buffalo areas. There’s just no comparing. They are hard to beat. Having said that, I have found a pizza shop that I really like here and in fact, I just had their pizza for dinner tonight! It’s a chain but I really like them better than any other chain pizza. Marcos. Do you have Marcos where you are? I used to like pizza with toppings but now I find that my favorite variety is just plain cheese pizza with triple cheese and double sauce… And that’s the reason I don’t have it too often! 🙂

I really enjoyed your playlist and I’m sure I”ll be coming back to it to listen some more.
    Have a great week,

    Michele at Angels Bark

    1. Michele,

I like also like Steven Tyler’s country crossover and listened to his country album in its entirety. I sort of watched Blue October’s mewsic video but honestly, I usually don’t for a number of reasons. It is really odd even creepy. This guy builds a life-like woman from organic and non-organic substances. Now, tell me can anyone really be happy with an artificial intelligence, even if it appears human-like? All of this reminds me of the recent mews on sex robots. Isn’t that the craziest thing you ever heard of? I thought the blow-up dolls were weird enough but now folks are spending top dollars on technology to meet their sexual needs. That’s just creepy.

Oh yes, we’re pizza fans! I’d love to try a real Chicago or New York style pizza. I’ve heard they are quite different from what we know as pizza. We do have Marco’s in town and have tried them. They are good but they seem to lack the necessary spices to wow us. I have never been a huge fan of just cheese pizza. I (we) prefer the works just as long as there are no mushrooms. We’re sensitive to them which results in a very upset stomach.

Thanks for popping by for a boogie session!

  7. Well, so far I enjoyed your first tune… and while I’m listening… summer is a time for being outside & doing things. Dave & I went for a short walk today at the park across the street today with Charlie. As I said a very short walk cuz that sun was definitely a blazin’ & poor charlie was pantin’ away!!! So you second tune… I have to turn that one up can’t hear it didn’t get louder until towards the end. Steven Tyler was here in my neck of the woods on Saturday at the Naperville Rib Festival, but it was too expensive like $75 to get in plus $4 (don’t know what that was for & then $20 for parking & then I heard it was another $50 to see Steve Tyler and then another $50 to see Pitt Bull… but I also heard Steve Tyler was singing nothing, but…………. ARE YA READY???? COUNTRY TUNES! WEIRD!!!!! I really kinda wanted to go, but we couldn’t afford it, so I told hubby I didn’t want to go anyways & I wasn’t feeling well & he felt better I think… I know… I fibbed. ooops!!! Anyway, I never heard this tune by Steven, but it was just okay for me. He definitely needs his band behind him or do some screamin’ stuff… ~hehehe~ YOU DEFINITELY ROCKED THE HOUSE TODAY GIRLFRIEND… time to move on… HUGS Gotta finish the dishes so I’m turning up to hear your tunes!!!

    1. Marie,

Concert going is expensive. I don’t think I want to see an artist/band bad enough to shell out that kind of money. Plus, you have to contend with large crowds. I prefer staying away from big gatherings because if anything can go wrong it often times does go wrong. I actually like Steve Tyler doing country. He’s a natural for it! It was really warm here today but I think it might have been a little better than it has but tomorrow I think the heat is on the upswing again. 🙁

  8. Sorry the pizza places were not great. I haven’t had Pizza Hut in years, there are none close by. We have a Dominos though. I like your theme this week, these are all new to me . Nice spark and photo with it. Have a great week! XO

    1. Ellen,

I’d probably die if I couldn’t get Pizza Hut delivered. Ok, that’s a bit of a stretch. We also have a Dominos, Marco’s, & Papa John who deliver to us. We joke often when we’re looking at homes that are a bit off the grid. While not having places who’ll deliver is a top priority for when we do make that move, it certainly is worth thinking about more closely. 🙂

  9. I’m not much for “current” music, but these were all pretty good. I think the last one was used in a commercial, but I can’t remember which one. Nice that you and your kids can share music like that! Good set!

    1. John,

“Falling in Love in a Coffee Shop” was in two commercials, DeBeers and AT&T, but I’m not sure if I remember those or not.

  10. Hi Cathy; Sounds like you’re enjoying the summer. 🙂 These songs were all new to me. Steven Tyler’s “Gypsy Girl” is my favourite, here. Think I’ll check out the rest of the album, as well. I’ve heard so much about it. Pizza is the most perfect of foods, encompassing just about all food groups. Enjoy! 😀 Love the sweet little kitties. ♥

    1. Debbie,

Pizza is a purrfect food. 🙂 “Gypsy Girl” really has grown on me. I like Steve’s switch to the country scene even if it’s temporary. He’s a talented fellow! I read he has a home in Nashville. It would be so cool on our next trip there if we could run into him or some other big celebrity. That’s highly unlikely but it nice to think about happening, though. lol

    1. Steve,

I’m happy you decided to stop by to boogie with me and catch a peek at my ‘Awww Mondays’ contribution. Have purrfect week, my friend!

  11. Wow that’s a lot of visitors. I would love to visit too. It’s a long way from here.

We don’t eat much pizza anymore. I’ve so many digestive issues that the acid in the sauce doesn’t like me one bit.

I hope you’re happy. I didn’t expect that, but I should have. Great music.

Have a purrfect Awww Monday and may your day be filled with wonderful Sparks. Big hugs. ♥

    1. Sandee,

Oh yeah, it’s crazy in the mountains this time of the year! Ever since Dolly got involved in the Sevierville (her hometown) and Pigeon Forge area I think it’s tons busier than when we moved down here 39 years ago. We used to see a break in tourism by early November. Now, it’s really hard to see much decline. It’s obvious there’s a drop but not enough to suit me. 🙂 You poor, poor dear you can’t have pizza! I think I’d die if I couldn’t have pizza or ice cream or anything for that matter. I know there are foods I should avoid but if I don’t overdo these things then I generally am ok. Digestion problems seem to hit everyone a little as the years creep by.

  12. Hi, Cathy!

It’s great to see you again, dear friend! I love those pictures of snoozing kitties. We have tried numerous pizza shops down here in Florida but have still not found pizza as good as the kind we enjoyed back home in PA, my favorite of all being a pizzeria in York called Jim & Nena’s. I enjoyed your new to U mewsic play list. All of the selections are new to my ears as well. I read that the first act, the Houston based alternative rock band Blue October, has been around since the mid 90s. I’m thinking they might have been influenced by new wave 80s bands like The Cars because the lead singer sounds a lot like Ric Ocasek. Iron & Wine is a one-man-band, Carolinian Sam Beam, and I enjoy his brand of dreamy indie folk. I can easily understand why his music has been used in the soundtrack of the fantasy vampire film and various TV series. I think it was a smart move for Steve Tyler to transition to country music. It works. His recording career has a new set of legs. You posted an oldie by Baby Spice and it’s a goody. I never heard it before. Emma has a pleasing voice and style. The intimate vocal on “Falling In Love At A Coffee Shop” makes it an ideal song to set a romantic mood in a commercial or a TV show with a large female audience.

Thank you very much for introducing these artists and songs, dear friend Cathy, and enjoy your week!

    1. Tom,

I”m sorry for not responding to your comment before now. I could’ve sworn I did. *slap forehead. I know I made a return visit to your place. That’s an interesting tidbit that Iron & Wine is really a one-man-band act. Cheers to you for sharing with me! 🙂
