My Home Sweet Home Tennessee

Posted on October 5, 2012

This is my home sweet home Tennessee!

Where along with my family and me more than 5 million other people live. We’re the 16th most populous state in the country as of 2000, not sure where we rank today.

This is Tennessee’s state flag. Have you ever wondered what the three white stars are fort? In truth, I never thought about it until now.

The stars represent our state’s three very different geographical regions and the white circle binds the three.

East Tennessee — The Great Smoky Mountains

We live in the 3rd largest city.  Knoxville is comfortably situated 45-minutes north of our beloved Smoky’s – our favorite playground & apparently some 11 million others who visit the park each year.

Central Tennessee – The Highlands

Photos borrowed from various Internet sites. These images do not belong to me.

Most folks think country music when they think of Nashville and they would be right. Located in central Tennessee, Nashville is the second largest city in the state and our state capital. Nashville is home to musicians & vocalists of all genres and regarded as the hot spot for top-notch recording studios around the world.

We visited our capital city a few years ago and I would love to share the photos I took, but sadly I cannot access those pictures at this time (HD recovery in progress). Hopefully, I can do another post featuring these sometime soon. Watch for a future post to pop up.

Nashville is easy two and half hour drive from Knoxville. Not far from the highland region is, the birth spot and home of one of this country’s most famous WWI heroes, Sergeant Alvin York. I wrote a post about him, here.

West Tennessee – Lowlands

The lowlands region is commonly thought of as Memphis area, which is an 8-hour drive from Knoxville. We have not had the pleasure of visiting the largest city in the state yet, but I hope this changes sometime in the not-so-distant future.

The King of Rock n’ Roll, Memphis Barbecue, a river boat cruise (maybe not – but I can photograph from a distant), and Graceland — all the things I want to see in west Tennessee.

There’s a lot to do in Tennessee. The diversity of her people and surroundings make it an interesting place to visit.

1. Have you been to Tennessee? If so, please tell us where.
2. What do you think of when you think of Tennessee? Come on, be honest!

I haven’t been to this lovely state in way too long a time.

I can remember driving through one autumn many, many years ago.

    It was absolutely jaw dropping.

Thanks for a terrific link about your beautiful state.

    A+

Hi Cathy, I love Tennessee! My hubby and I flew into Knoxville and rented a car to drive up to Rugby. The whole town is on the register for National Historic places. The B&B we stayed in was haunted. We didn’t know it until we got home. We just dismissed what had happened to us as someone forgetting to turn off all lights and the doors were standing wide open when we returned from dinner. Creepy. I love the Smokey mountains. We went every summer as a child. My parents owned a cabin in N. Carolina. Thanks for stopping by my blog!~Ames

I can’t believe I have never been to Tennessee…since I’ve been on every continent but Antarctica but I have lots of the US still to see. For sure I’d love to see the Smoky Mts.
