Good-morning, kittens & dawgs! Mary from Jingle, Jangle, Jungle passed to me the Music & Words Award, as well as Debbie from The Doglady’s Den.
This sounds like interesting fun and I’m sure it’s gonna stump me, but hey I love a good challenge, so I happily accepted. Thank you, ladies!
Miss Andi created The Music & Words Award as a way to acknowledge and link people who love music. Each Friday, she bestows 5 new awards to five different bloggers with the hope to showcase great music blogs of all genres globally. I do not know Miss Andi, but you can bet I’m gonna find out more about her.
Here’s how you play, if you choose to accept the award:
(1) Link back to the person who nominated you.
(2) Answer these questions with words AND music:
- WHAT DOES MUSIC MEAN TO YOU?
- WHAT IS YOUR FIRST MUSIC-RELATED MEMORY?
- WHAT’S THE FIRST ALBUM YOU PURCHASED?
- WHAT’S THE LATEST MUSIC YOU PURCHASED? (NO ONLINE STREAMING OR FREE DOWNLOADS, I’M TALKING ABOUT CASH HERE!)
- WHAT SONG DID YOU LISTEN TO LAST? (NO CHEATING, COME OUT WITH THE DIRTY PLEASURES!)
(3) Pass the award on to 5 bloggers who inspire you with their posts about music.
(4) Tag your post with #MWA, for Music&Words Award so that we can all find you down the line.
(5) Quote these 5 steps and the award icon in your post. You can display the icon on your sidebar as well.
WHAT DOES MUSIC MEAN TO YOU?
A stumbled upon this new-to-me quote that sorta sums up best what music means to me.
WHAT IS YOUR FIRST MUSIC-RELATED MEMORY?
I was 13 when Terry Jack released Seasons in the Sun. I’m not sure why this particular song sticks out above all the rest, but it does. I know the lyrics always made me sad. I guess I just felt for the poor soul in the song you know the whole death thing. In retrospect, I think I had all of those adolescent hormones working against me and THAT is why this song stirred deep sorrow, almost to the point of tears, every time I heard it. Stupid hormones!
WHAT’S THE FIRST ALBUM YOU’VE PURCHASED YOURSELF?
Honestly, I do not remember the first album I bought. I never bought music when I lived with my parents. They didn’t have a lot of money, so any music I came by was either recorded by a friend or given to me by a boyfriend. Looking back I remember joining BMG Music in the early 90s. Do you remember those music clubs? Anywho, I think I got at least two Amy Grant albums.
Now life is easy. Both albums now can be bought easily from online sources.
WHAT’S YOUR LATEST MUSIC PURCHASE? (NO ONLINE STREAMING OR FREE DOWNLOADS, I’M TALKING ABOUT CASH HERE!)
Seriously? Is this question even allowed? lol Let’s just say, it’s been many years since I actually paid cash for anything let along music. Plastic is the way to go and you can pay your credit card company online from your bank account. Oh, wait… the question states no streaming or freebies. *smack forehead* In that case, I bought an assorted collection 20 #1’s: Classic Rock – Various Artists from iTunes sometime late 2015. 🙂
WHAT SONG DID YOU LISTEN TO LAST? (NO CHEATING, COME OUT WITH THE DIRTY PLEASURES!)
We recently concluded watching Damages on Netflix and this song caught my attention so much so that I had to find out the artist and song name.
This song isn’t available on iTunes, but thankfully someone on YouTube provided this neat set of instructions for converting video files to mp3.
- Copy YouTube link
- Go to this YT Converter Site
- Paste the YouTube link in box
- Click the “Convert Video” button
- Once completed, you’ll get a download option, click to download, and you’ll find it in your Download folder.
That’s pretty cool, huh?
Nominations, in no particular order, go to…
- Les at Ink Interrupted
- Tom at Shady Dell Music & Memories
- Patrick at Adventures in Weseland
- Kisma at Sounds Like Life to Me
- Steve at Be There 2day

This is great!! I have not shared music on my blog in quite some time, so this gives great incentive. I actually did just update my iTunes library over our recent holidays so I do have some new music to share. But how funny that one of my earliest song memories is also Seasons in the Sun!! I used to cry every time I heard it. AND I also had both of those Amy Grant albums because ours was mostly a Christian music household. I wasn’t allowed rock music when I was younger. I even saw Amy in concert. 🙂
Thanks for the nomination – I will definitely add it to my queue this week.
Les, you’re welcome for the nomination. I felt like you’d make an excellent candidate for this award. I can’t wait to see what you come up with, too.
I’ve gotten a ton of albums–cassettes and CD’s primarily through BMG and other music clubs. Sometimes I wish I had all that money back.

Tossing It Out
Lee, we have hundreds of CDs. I want to upload all of our music to iTunes. That’ll be a ton easier to not only find a song quicker, but I can move it to any device I want. I love how technology improves our enjoyment of life. The thing is after I do this, I’m gonna have a difficult time parting with the hard copies. ?
I love Amy Grant’s music!
I don’t remember ever buying an album but I’d buy cassettes when I was younger 🙂
Very nice list Cathy. Thank you for the dance.
Have a good week!
Colette, I figured the question can apply to cassettes, too. Technology has changed over the decades and I occasionally refer a CD as an album. lol
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh, you rock! I love getting to know your music inspirations and honored you chose my little space to nominate. I will work on this and post for next Monday! I adored Amy Grant as a girl and from time to time catch a song by her I haven’t heard in awhile and just makes me smile!
I am enjoying the what music has inspired everyone. I am known as retro gal to my friend since I not only have a CD player but a record player. I just listened to some blues, Harry Manx, Paris songs( Dinah Shore, Edith Piaf etc,…) and Fleetwood Mac(Rumours):) By the way, I was inspired by your BOTB, “Melancholy March” and so I created a card. Hope you check it out:)
This was a fun blog hop. I LOVE your comments about how you got your first music purchase. That’s almost the same as me. My reply was the Columbia Record Club.
Great answers, great memories.
Jeffrey, yes this was a very fun hop. I love the concept! I think either Columbia bought BMG or it was the other way around because I bought from both of these music clubs, too. Thanks for sharing in the memories!
I enjoyed reading about your musical memories and thanks for accepting the award, Cathy. 🙂 “Seasons in the Sun” has always stirred emotions in me as well, so it wasn’t just teenage hormones. It’s a moving song. Hubby and I were totally hooked on “Damages” and binge-watched it on Netflix whenever we had time. Thanks for the download tip. I’ve been trying to find a good program to do that.
Hi, dear Cathy!
Thank you very much for nominating me for the MWA, dear friend! That is so very kind of you and I am grateful. I enjoyed your answers, Cathy. “Seasons in the Sun” has always stirred feelings in me, too, and I remember the great popularity of Amy Grant. Fine song selections! You got me curious (as a Cathy) when you mentioned the TV series Damages on Netflix. I never heard of it so I looked it up. I discovered that it is a psychological thriller legal drama. Mrs. Shady and I love shows like that and I am going to tell her about it immediately.
Thank you again for your kindness and generosity in nominating me for the award, Cathy! 🙂
Tom, you’re very welcome. I hope you have as much fun as I did with answering the questions. Oh you & Mrs. Shady are going to like Damages. It kept DH & I riveted the entire time. We did a lot of binge watching. We were SO disappointed to find out there are only five seasons. The finale was well done, but I hated to see the show come to an end. Have a good Monday, my friend!
