Good-morning, kittens & dawgs! I’m keeping things somber today in honor of those who gave more than just their service for this country, they gave their lives.
The Statler Brothers More Than a Name on a Wall says it all. Listen and follow the lyrics:
I saw her from a distance
As she walked up to the wall
In her hand she held some flowers
As her tears began to fall
She took out pen and paper
As to trace her memories
She looked up to Heaven
And the words she said were these
She said “Lord my boy was special
And he meant so much to me”
And oh I’d love to see him
Just one more time You see
All I have are the memories
And the moments to recall
So Lord could You tell him
He’s more than a name on a wall
She said “He really missed the family
And being home on Christmas day”
And he died for God and country
In a place so far away
I remember just a little boy
Playing war since he was three
But Lord this time I know
He’s not coming home to me
She said “Lord my boy was special
And he meant so much to me”
And oh I’d love to see him
But I know it just can’t be
So I thank You for my memories
And the moments to recall
But Lord could You tell him
He’s more than a name on a wall
Lord could You tell him
He’s more than a name on a wall
Lord could you tell him
He`s more than a name on a wall
More than a name on a wall

That is such an awesome song – and so very true! Enjoy the rest of your weekend, Cathy – and thanks for the late dance! 🙂
wearing a Tuxedo Just Fishin’ – i Can’t Stop The Feeling with a Travelin’ Soldier
Thank goodness for our soldiers. Such a powerfully sad song.
What a beautiful song to remember those who served our country.
Thank you for treating the day appropriately. When someone tells me “Happy Memorial Day,” it tells me the person doesn’t understand the day.
Love,
Janie
Janie, I think people know, but unfortunately the emphasis has switched. It seems depending on who is in the White House you either find that people are generally more or less patriotic.
What a touching song Cathy.
how many families go through this missing of our heroes.
And God cares deeply.
And you did great with that photo.
I think I would like to try owning such a camera.
Thanks for sharing. Have a blessed week!
Colette, there are too many I suppose who have broken hearts and for those my prayers are with them. Their loved one paid the ultimate price!
No one can express the feeling to his song in its right the way they can. Such perfect pitch and harmony… thanks for sharing. Cath… Happy Memorial Day to you hope you had fun and all was good & safe. Hugs.
Marie, The Statler Brothers are amazing. I remember my mom listening to them when I was younger. They did a fantastic job with this beautiful song tribute for our fallen heroes!
Enjoy your long weekend and good for you for keeping it respectful.
Wonderful song. My parents are huge Statler Brothers fans from way back. I grew up with their music and always liked it, too. Happy Memorial Day to you.
Nice post & tribute Cathy and a lovely song to finish it off 🙂
Happy Memorial Day from London UK 🙂
Thank you, Steve for popping in to listen to a song honoring those who died to keep us safe and that extends to our dear allies across the pond, too!
Wow – that was a beautiful and moving tribute! More than a name indeed. The ultimate sacrifice anyone can make, is that they lay down their life for another. We owe such “names” a debt that can never be repaid; but the truly beautiful thing is that they would never ask it.
Have a safe and Happy Memorial Day.
Les, Amen Sister! I couldn’t agree with you more that we owe these so much more than just a name on a wall. Thank you, thank you, dear friend!
What a beautiful song and it so captures today. We have Remembrance Day but I think of my dad today who was in WW2 and was shot near the end of the war. He carried part of that bullet til the day he died.
Birgit, Canada and the USA fought many battles together. On Memorial Day, I not only think about the USA’s servicemen/women, but all of our country’s allies servicemen/women who gave their all to protect our freedoms. So, let me say thank you for your dad’s service!
Hi, dear Cathy!
The Statlers got it right. They are more than names on a wall, and today isn’t merely a day to go swimming and enjoy a family cookout. It is a day to remember, to honor and to thank.
Thank you very much, dear friend Cathy. I wish you and your family a safe and restful Memorial Day.
