Good-morning, my friends! I trust everyone is healthy and well on the other side of my monitor. After my last BoTB, I thought I’d forego doing mid-month but then I decided against that decision and put one together. Normally, I feature an original song covered by two, sometimes three, artists but today I am using two different songs by two different artists and am asking you pick your favorite. It’s that simple, just state in comments who you prefer and if you’re feeling chatty you tell me why you gave your pick your vote. 😉
Not knowing how I wanted to go in this showdown, I used my A2Z illustration for inspiration and went with two song titles relating to ‘Mail’. I found two new-to-me songs to feature. The first is Letter In The Mail by James Taylor and the second one is Box Full Of Letters by Wilco. I not only hadn’t heard the second song before now but the artist as well. Listen and pick your favorite!
Who gets your vote, James Taylor or Wilco?
The polls close noon (EST) on the 21st. I will share the results of this battle next week in this same time slot, so mark your calendar to check back to see if your favorite artist wins.

I’m joining fellow A to Z Challenge enthusiasts around the globe this morning for my 7th year of participation. For first time visitor my theme this month is quite obviously stated in my post title. Some designs are more sensitive than others and may not be suitable for all audience. Today’s illustration is inspired by Gil Elvgren’s 1947 “Keeping Post” pinup girl. Proceed with caution.
[tweetthis]I just visited Cathy’s Pinup Girl #AtoZChallenge #art sketch series, and I think you should, too! [/tweetthis]As you might have guess I’m running short on time. Currently, I have this image partly finished in Procreate but I’ll need to share the finished work at another time, so this will give you something to look forward to and for me to share. 😉
Please read: Aces being wild birthed the idea of my new mid-week hop WILD WEDNESDAYS (#WildWednesdays) and all personal bloggers are invited to promote yourself. Share your photos, artwork, music, musings, randomness, or more! Warning… NO CRUDE CONTENT and spammers will be DELETED without prejudice. Thank you!
Thanks for stopping by today and if you need to catch up with any of my previous pinup girl designs you’ll find a list of posts in my side menu. Don’t forget to leave your footprints (direct URL) in comments so I can find my way back to you easily. I’ll leave with you another new-to-me ‘mail’ song discovery for your entertainment only and it’s apart of the BoTB contes, ‘You’ve Got Mail!’ by Fattburger. I hope you’ll come back again tomorrow for another illustration in Cathy’s Pinup Girls Art Sketch Series.

I obviously didn’t get around in time to vote in your BotB, but I do love your art! In general, for sure, but your pinup art is a different side of you and it’s so beautiful. Thank you for sharing!
I figured I would really dedicate a lot of time to my blog during my leave from work, but instead have been doing a lot of cleaning and trying to whip my house into shape – coming home to a messy place with no real organization was a major issue, and I am determined to get things reasonably repaired and in shape around here before I go back to work. I’ve also been binge-watching a lot of tv. It’s been nice to be able to not have anyplace in particular to be every day. But that ends this week; I return to work (and more of a routine) on May 4.

Hi There Cathy!
I’m running a bit behind this week. The week has gone by far too quickly for me. I’m not even sure I’ll be able to catch all the posts, but definitely wanted to drop by to cast a vote in your battle. James Taylor seemed to drag a bit for me this morning, so I’m going to vote for Wilco. They had the right amount of pep to keep me going.
~Mary
Mary,
No worries. I’m far behind this week, too. I appreciate you stopping in to throw your ballot in the hat for WILCO. It’s a close race!
James Taylor! Terrific sketch, Cathy!
Thanks for playing alone Veronica. JAMES TAYLOR takes another vote. 😉
She is quite the vixen dropping her mail like that:) Another fun drawing and looking forward to the coloured version. I give my vote to James Taylor because it sounds more original to me.
Birgit,
I hadn’t thought she dropped the mail on purpose but anyone brave enough to go out in public wearing a sheer blouse is probably on the mischievous side. 🙂 Gotcha down for JAMES TAYLOR, my dear!
Wilco gets my vote
Thanks for voting, Mike. Another one for WILCO!
Excellent sketch, Cathy. It’s James Taylor for me. I like his voice.
Eugenia,
Gotcha down for JAMES TAYLOR, my dear. Thanks for playing alone! 😉
😊
Lovely music and a nice b/w sketch here, Cathy! Love you spirit for A-Z. Keep the posts rolling. All the very best, sweetheart. <3
Shall I add your link to our #WW or would you want to? 🙂
Natasha,
I got my link added this morning. I’m sorry for not getting over yesterday. 😉
No worries at all sweetheart. Love
Natasha,
I’m happy you enjoyed the drawing, my friend. Thanks for visiting!
Wilco rocked….James Taylor not so much….his song dragged…Wilco has pep and energy! See ya tomorrow!
Kathe,
Gotcha down for WILCO! Thanks for voting, my friend!!
Hi Cathy, James Taylor has my vote, but I have to tell you we got a phone call this morning and I have good news. Dave is CANCER FREE! WOO HOO! We’re so excited here you would not believe. I’m going to make a little post on it tomorrow. Woo Hoo I never heard that very last song by Gladys Knight & I thought I knew all of her songs. Have a great day. We’re celebrating with beef sandwiches tonight. One of hubby’s favorite. We were gonna have spaghetti & meatballs (another favorite of his), but beef sandwiches came to mind and they took first place so spaghetti is tomorrow. bwahahahahaha WE’RE SO HAPPY OVER HERE YOU’LL NEVER KNOW! BIG HUGS – Wanna to tell you right away. love ya girl & thanks for your prayers. HUGS
Marie,
I knew Dave would be okay. They run tests on polyps all the time. I don’t have any polyps but they do a couple of tissue samples every time I have a colonoscopy because I’m in a higher risk category for it with my underlying issues. So far so good, though. Now the question is, is the doctor able to determine the reason for Dave’s intestinal problems? I wouldn’t be surprised if they give him the diagnosis of IBS, which means I don’t know what’s wrong with you. They gave me that one many years ago before they said I have Crohn’s. He might need to keep a food diary. Maybe all he needs to do is adjust his diet. That would be wonderful. I’m sure stress plays into his stomach problems, too. He needs to push himself to get out of this funk. It’s hard to do. Trust me, been there, done that but when I gave myself a mental shove to do just that then I began to feel better emotionally. I think you’re right, he needs to get back to doing what he loves – mewsic and song writing! Thanks for the update and for voting for JAMES TAYLOR!
Wilco has a kind of Tom Petty feel to it. I like that. They get my vote.
I like the pinup, even if it isn’t in color. In fact, maybe I like it because it’s not in color.
John,
You tend to like the pencil drawings best so it doesn’t surprise me that you like this one but I can’t wait to share the in living color version of this drawing.
It’s funny I just left a response to Stephen saying how interesting it is that fellow BoTBers are going with WILCO and that’s who you picked, too. How interesting is that? lol
Howdy, CAThy! It’s that you?
Other than the song ‘FIRE & RAIN’ (which I’ve always loved, in a melancholy way) I never quite understood the popularity of James Taylor. (Maybe me being a heterosexual male had something to do with that.)
This James Taylor song was pleasant enough, but it didn’t strike me as having any real “there” there; it just sounded like it was meandering around my ears.
I definitely preferred the more energetic and punchier song by WILCO.
Wilco! Over and out.

STMcC Presents BATTLE OF THE BANDS
Stephen,
Yeah, it’s me ole friend! James Taylor has a soothing quality to his vocals. I think that’s why I like his songs. It’s not over until the fat lady sings but it’s looking like he’s gonna win this round. It’s interesting that the other regular BoTBers are going with your pick in this round. Giving WILCO another tally!
James Taylor will always win hands down for me, Cathy!
Thanks for sharing at https://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/2020/04/more-from-archives-duke-chapel.html
Sue,
Gotcha down for JAMES TAYLOR! Thanks for visiting and casting your vote in this round of BoTB, my friend!
Bet the mailman likes delivering to that house!
Janet,
Yep, I bet he does, too!
Great song and great sketch. Thanks for sharing both. Hope you are safe and healthy.
Patrick,
I’m glad you were able to join the WW party, my friend. Have a good day!
Pretty pinup girl!
M is for Modern Quilts
Thanks, Frederique!
Love your sketch. She is beautiful and yes she’s got mail.
Thank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. Love and hugs. ♥
Sandee,
Now we know why she has so much mail! 😀
James Taylor.
She’s pretty sassy that girl at the mailbox
Mom and Memory
MDW,
Indeed, my pinup girl is quite bold to go out to get the mail in that sheer blouse. I’m sure you’ll not get any complaints from the postman. In fact, he might want to deliver twice as often to her box. lol Another vote for JAMES TAYLOR!
I like James Taylor usually, but not so thrilled with this particular song. I’ve been a Wilco fan since the 90’s–I really like their country grunge sound.
Give my vote to Wilco.
Arlee Bird
Tossing It Out
Lee,
Totally interesting, your vote is duly recorded for WILCO!
And here i thought i had left a comment already! Lovely drawing, and James Taylor because i am a sentimental old fool.
Mimi,
I’m a bit scattered brained this week. I don’t know if I’m coming or going and feel like I’m going in all directions. Gee, such a craziness! Thanks for voting for JAMES TAYLOR. There’s nothing wrong with being sentimental. 😉
Lovely drawing, i will come back to listen to the songs when i’m done with work.
My favourite was Wilco!
Lovely sketch as always and looking forward to seeing it in colour.
Thanks for checking out my pinup girl artwork and for voting for WILCO in this round. Have a good day, furriends!
Terrific sketch! We have to go with James Taylor too, we always like that guy.
Brian,
I like JAMES TAYLOR, too. But, the new sound of Wilco is nice. I’m not sure who I would vote for but you can’t go wrong with either artist. 😉
I am going to have to go with James Taylor. While I like the rhythm of the Wilco song the arrangement and timeless of vocals of James Taylor win this battle hands down. Have a wonderful Wednesday.
Driller,
I agree there is something timeless about the sound of JAMES TAYLOR. If you’re a Voice fan, then you might like to know that he was a quest on the show. Thanks for playing in this round of BoTB, my friend!
Very nice drawings. Definitely James Taylor. Thanks for hosting. Have a great day! XO
Ellen,
Do you watch The Voice? This season they have James Taylor as a quest for critiquing the contestants on the show who are blown away with the opportunity to sing for Mr. Taylor. It would be cool to meet him. Thank for voting for JAMES TAYLOR!
… should read “In Living Color.” It’s early in the morning. 🙂
👍
Hi, Cathy!
Happy “M” Day and BOTB Day, dear friend, a Wild Wednesday indeed!
The two songs you picked for your mid-month band battle immediately reminded me of a third song with a similar title. Released at Christmas time 1961 and peaking in the top 20 in early 1962, “Letter Full Of Tears” became the second hit for Gladys Knight And The Pips:
Of course there are many other popular “letter songs” including “The Letter” by The Box Tops, “Please Mr. Postman” by The Marvelettes, “Greetings (This Is Uncle Sam)” by two groups: The Valadiers and The Monitors, “Love Letters” by Ketty Lester and “Love Letters In The Sand,” the Pat Boone hit currently playing at Shady’s Place.
In your battle I definitely prefer the livelier performance of act #2, the Chicago based alt rock/alt country band Wilco. Their song has clever lyrics and I like the lead singer’s vocal quality and style. The harmonies were nice, too. I read that Wilco was influenced by John Lennon, Neil Young and Brian Wilson. I vote for Wilco!
Turning to your P.O.O.D. (Pinup of the Day), I have this Elvgren in my collection. Looks like your adaptation entitled “She’s Got Mail” is going to be another great work of pinup art. Maybe a couple months from now you can bring it to us “In Loving Color” as you did last year with your mermaid and her friends and foes.
I loved the instrumental “You’ve Got Mail” played by the San Diego jazz-funk group Fattburger.
Enjoy your day, dear friend Cathy, and I’ll see you tomorrow!
Tom,
Thanks for joining me in the mid-round of BoTB. I listened to Gladys Knight and the Pips 1962 top 20 hit which was a first time for me to hear it. Gladys has such a soulful voice! One of my favorite TV shows is DWTS and Gladys a celebrity on season 14. I always enjoy seeing older stars on the program. They are usually a lot of fun to watch! Alright, I have your vote recorded for WILCO, my friend.
I can’t wait to finish the Procreate redesign of my gal. It’s so much fun to try to replicate vintage artist’s pinup girls. I’m thrilled with this opportunity and am glad I took the plunge! Thanks for your kind words and sweet support. Be well. Sending prayers to you and your darlin’ wife!
