I interrupt the regular Monday Music (sorta) post to bring you this special announcement…. I preëmpt all routine posts to bring you my contributions to this month’s largest blogging event. Don’t worry, normal posting will resume next month like clock work (I hope). Meanwhile, I invite you to stick around to enjoy the #AprilA2Z fun!
I remember when our girls were really small. I think they were 2 and 4. Our church gave all the children kites in Sunday School. We made it a standard date after Sunday morning services to go to the mountains ~ change of clothes and picnic lunch in toll.
We found a large open field on the North Carolina side of the Smoky’s near the Visitor’s Center. Our attempt to get those kites airborne was a miserable flop and DD#2 lost her pacifier in that field. Talk about a major killjoy!
Of course now this memory brings nothing, but keen thoughts of a simply times. We get a kick out of talking about how a baby bear found DD#2’s pacie and is all the happier for his new keepsake.
One thing I wished we had tried with the kids is to make our own home-made kite. I found this klever (pull in the fangs, the misspelling is on purpose) video showing how easy it is to do.
Have you made a home-made kite? Do you like to fly kites? What is your favorite kite flying memory?

I have not tried to make a DIY version yet. But mine always get new kites in Spring and their 3 newest ones just arrived last week. We have a big open field across from our house that is perfect. (even though we have a lost a few to the tall trees surrounding it, and few rooftops!)
Let’s Go Fly A Kite was always one of my favourite parts of Mary Poppins when I was young. After the dancing penguins – of course! 🙂
Mary Poppins is a fun movie. I’m very interested in seeing Saving Mr. Banks just for this reason. Dancing penguins? Like as in Happy Feet? My SIL loves that movie!
Aren’t you klever? 😉 Love kites, love your choice! 🙂
Real Gone in a Cop Car – but there’s Somethin’ ‘Bout A Truck…Truck Yeah!
I loved that movie Saving Mr Banks.
YOu had a very good selection Cathy!
And how cool. I should do the kite with the kids. Thanks.
Hope your week is going great!
Callie, I want to see Saving Mr Banks. I hope it’s made available for Netflix streaming sometime soon!
Love it! That’s one of my favorite songs from that movie. Love the let’s make a kite too. Cool video I should pass it on to my son-in-law & my son! 🙂 Thanks for joining us. HUGS
When I was a kid we always made our own kites. And had so much fun flying them. I don’t know if I would remember how. But thanks for the tutorial!
I don’t have memories of flying a kite as a kid, but I do remember my stepdaughter wanting to fly one, so we flew one in the parking lot of a restaurant where we were waiting to meet her mom!

Was horrible at flying kites. I might to try it again.
It seems we all have horror stories to share on this matter. lol
I don’t remember ever flying a kite or building one… I had a friend with a jolly green giant huge kite it took the two of us to keep it flying… does that count?

HOLLYWOOD NUTS!
Come Visit: You know you want to know if me or Hollywood… is Nuts?
Sure, helping to fly a kite counts! Other than trying to fly kites with our kiddos, I do remember giving it a shot myself when I was young and I never got the it off the ground. I don’t think it was a very windy day, so maybe that’s why. 🙁
Love that movie and that song. It was fun to see how Mary Poppins move came about.

So, you saw the movie and you liked it. Well, in that case that’s good enough endorsement to make me want to watch it all the more, Stephen!
LOL loved it and the kite making lesson hahaha!
hee hee … When I lived in the San Francisco East Bay area, I was on the 14th floor of a condo building that overlooked San Francisco Bay. Every Spring, there is a kite festival in the People’s Republic of Berserkley and I could see it from the balcony of my condo. The kite festival is about the only thing the People’s Republic of Berserkley has to recommend itself …
Oh that must be pretty cool to see!
