Illusions, Funny Story, Old Movies, College Football, & Resolutions

The brain is a complex and wonderful thing. I like illustrations which trick the mind where you see more than one thing at a glance.  At first, I see an elderly man and woman. A second look, a notice two Mexicans – man and woman. There is a candle stick or wine goblet on a table I’m not sure which. Also, there’s a woman standing in a door way.

What do you see in this picture?

How many faces can you count in the below photo? I found 11.

Using your mind creatively can help when you’re in a tight jam. For instance…

An old man lived in Idaho. He wanted to spade his potato garden, but it was very hard work. His only son, who used to help him was in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and described his predicament.
Dear Luther, I’m feeling pretty bad because it looks like I won’t be able to plant my potato garden this year. I am just getting too old to be digging up the garden plot. If you were here, all my troubles would be over. I know you would dig the plot for me. Love,  Dad
A few days later, he received a letter from his son.

Dear Pops,  For heaven’s sake, don’t dig up the garden. That’s where I buried the BODIES! Love, Luther

Early the next morning, F.B.I. agents and local police showed up at the old man’s home. They dug up the entire garden without finding a single body. The authorities apologized to the old man and left. The same day the old man received another letter from his son.

Dear Pops, Go ahead and plant the potatoes now. That’s the best I could do under the circumstances. Love, Luther

Lately, we’ve been in an old movie watching mood.  You’ll be happy to learn that by-gone era of Hollywood movies continue to shine for generations with these preserved classics from big screen to your plasma TV. Be sure to look for these for a fun, family night of entertainment!

My Favorite Spy (1951) starring Bob Hope and Hedy Lemar

How to Marry a Millionaire (1953) Lauren Bacall, Marilyn Monroe, and Betty Grable

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953) Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell

Last night, Alabama and LSU went head to head in the College National Championship. We rooted for the Crimson Tide. Alabama scored all field goals, then in the last two minutes of the game, they got a touchdown.
The final score 21 to 0. Whoo-hoo, what an awesome game!

My resolutions for the New Year are taking shape slowly. I’m working daily on better communications efforts with friends/family. Another area is, I’m jotting my to-dos down immediately. This will keep things from slipping out of my head. Procrastination and I have a long history. I’m ready to kick this partner out of my life for good!

What sort of random is rattling your thoughts today?

Thanks Stacy for keeping the randomness alive while Keely @ UnMom takes a break!

  1. Love the story of the old man! I keep trying to get my son to watch old movies. Unfortunately he thinks musicals are soooooo stupid (sigh) but luckily, he adores all the classic comics – Marx Brothers, Stooges, Laurel and HArdy, WC Fields. SO fun!

  2. I saw the sames things you did in the first picture, and counted 11 pictures in the second one. Love stuff like that! 🙂

That story was funny – I hadn’t read that one before! 🙂

I love those old movies – my mom and I used to watch them together for movie night. 🙂

Heh, procrastination and I have a long history too… 🙂

  3. I love the story about the bodies! thanks for the laughs! As for the first picture, at first i thought the mexicans were chickens 🙁

  4. We recently spent a very long time online showing our 8 & 6 yr olds different illusions. I’m amazed how much easier they are to see now. And I didn’t see the tree one – how cool!

  5. I’ve seen that story about the old man and his garden; it’s really good though! And re: your comment on my blog. No, I have not always loved running. We started working out at the gym in 2004 and used only ellipticals. I started about 2 years ago when my husband picked it up and lost so much weight. I really hated running at first but kept doing it. Now it’s just a part of my life! Happy Tuesday.
