If by Bread BOTB

MAY 15th BOTB RESULTS

This is our wedding anniversary month.  On the 9th, we will celebrate 45 years together as husband and wife. At our wedding, DH’s best friend, Tony played his guitar and sang one of our favorite songs, If by Bread (reference only).

I was really surprised that SecondHandSongs shows more than 300 covers of this song, most are people I don’t know but there were a few big names.  I decided with my battle picks that I wanted to go with female vocalists striped down.  Not to worry, the ladies are dressed but I thought a simple rendition more appropriate with the contenders voice and a guitar.  Obviously, I’m leaning this direction for sentimental reasons since that’s the way Tony performed at our wedding.

My choices were slim but I found two girls that came the closest to what I was looking for and now I leave it up to you to decide who gets your vote.

Up first is Shane Ericks!

No sooner did I hear Shane sing, I thought Karen Carpenter which is interesting because I read a her bio on her website that says, She [Shane] has been called the Karen Carpenter of the Philippines.  While her YouTube channel consists of mostly covers, I did find out in her bio that she is a recording artist.

Haley Johnsen

Haley has a lovely voice, perhaps more commercial sounding. She’s more than a cover artist, she’s also a songwriter.

Polls close at noon (ET) on the 7th!

I’m taking a blogging break this summer but will join others participating in the Battle of the Bands fun and plan to make my rounds on Monday.  Watch for the results of this showdown to show up in my June 9th post.  There are more showdowns underway, you’ll find a list of participants in my side bar beneath the BOTB banner for you to check those out.  I’ll be back tomorrow with Monday’s Music Moves Me on Sundays. If you’re Blogosphere stop in for more music. 😉 This is CAAC signing off, have a bandtastic day!

  1. A lovely song, and perfect for the occasion. Wishing you the happiest anniversary month and a whole ‘nother wonderful year!
Though they are both very good, my vote goes to Shane.
    Have a fantastic summer!

  2. Happy Anniversary month to you and DH, Cathy. Shane is my choice because I like her vocals. 💗

    1. I love your Foghorn Leghorn drawing with the dog. This is a tough battle. They both have outstanding voices but I really like the first lady and she does sound like Karen Carpenter, a bit. She has her own style so she gets my vote

  3. Happy, happy anniversary!

For me, it was no contest: Haley Johnsen had a pretty voice, but Shane Ericks not only had a prettier voice, she could play guitar better. Shane’s my winner here…

  4. Happy Anniversary! I like Haley Johnson’s voice better, but the guitar in the first better so I guess I will go with Johnson. XO

  5. CAThy! It’s that YOU!

First of all, a Happy 45th Anniversary to you and DH! That’s quite a milestone. You two be showin’ the rest of the world how it’s supposed to be done, doggone it!

Great song cherce for your Battle O’ The Bands contest. I always liked Bread (the band, the food, and the green dough). And – Hokey-Smoke & Hoot Gibson! – this was a toughie for me, because I enjoyed listening to both of these singers. They sho can sing like songbirds!

I had to listen to BOTH songs TWICE each, and I’m still unsure how to vote. I could go either way on this one.

Although Karen Carpenter is my all-time very favorite singer (counting both males & females), I think I’m casting my vote for Haley Johnson but it’s like a 51% to 49% decision. In my book, it don’t get no closer’n that!

    1. If is one of my most favorite Bread tunes. Hands down no contest for me here – my vote goes to Shane. Have a great summer and happy anniversary!

  6. Wishing you and DH a very HAPPY 45th ANNIVERSARY! 🎉 I hope you will have a wonderful day. 🙂 Such beautiful memories attached to an equally beautiful song. Both ladies did well, but I preferred Shane’s vocal tone, so please give my vote to her.
