Hello Kittens & Dawgs! I didn’t get a chance yesterday to share my Mother’s Day events with you. DH took me out for my traditional Mother’s Day lunch of burgers and fries. I wanted to try Culver’s since it opened last November. We did get some frozen custard a few months ago which we liked but we hadn’t had their foods, so when DH asked where I’d like to go then I asked if he’d take me to Culver’s. We were not disappointed. We shared the Culver’s Deluxe which has two patties, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and mayo which is just like I like my burger.
Both the hamburger and fries were excellent. We’ll definitely go back!
After lunch, DH snapped the above photo, then we headed fort Baskin Robbins for a scope of ice cream. That’s where DS joined us to my surprise. Going out for ice cream is another fun tradition and treat that DH splurges on me. Being able to share Mother’s Day with at least one of our kiddos made my day all the more special.
Tuesdays is my time slot dedicated for a bit of #get2knowme trivia and so I thought I’d share these little known facts about yours truly.
- At one time I thought I never, ever wanted children. This is true. I was certain there was no room in my life for rugrats. God planted a desire in my heart for a baby dissolving all of my earlier selfish wants to be childless. I’m glad He moved our hearts.
- The year DD#1 was born I turned 27. I thought that was a bit mature in age but since then several Hollywood celebrities have had their first child as old as 40. Now, that’s pushing it just a bit if you ask me.
- At the time of my first child’s birth I was almost 11 years older than my mom was when she had me. Yikes, I can’t image having a child at 16 then nor can I image a kid today having one at that age. That’s just way too young. Having a kid does force you to grow up but mentally you have a whole lot more growing up then you think.
- My grandma became a grandma at the age of 35. My mother became a grandma at age 40 (with my brother’s first-born). If things go well, then I will be a month short of my 57th birthday when my first grandchild is born.
Now, you know a little more about your hostess. Okay, peeps I’m calling on you to do your bloggy responsibility – VOTE for your favorite cover artist in round two of BoTB!!
I found an unfamiliar Barry Manilow song, I Am Your Child which is purrrfect for honoring my mother and all mothers. I’m sharing a female and male version of this song and I challenge you to listen to both to decide which cover artist you like the best!

Holy hot-legs, woman! You are adorable!!! 🙂 So glad you had a wonderful Mother’s Day! I had to chuckle about the whole age at birth thing – after struggling with infertility and 4 miscarriages, Princess Nagger made her miraculous arrival 3 weeks shy of my 40th birthday. Between her and Little Dude, they keep me young. For now – just wait, though, I’m sure when they’re both in their teens I’ll age rapidly…heh!!!
Gotta throw my vote to Michael. 😉
Stacy,
Our kids always made us feel young. I knew you were a late bloomer as a parent like us but I didn’t realize you were almost 40. I know what a blessing it was to finally have PN on board. Infertility is a struggle with many couples. My cousin and his wife had these issues. They adopted four kids over the years and they are great parents. I always said it takes a special person to adopt a child but then again you’re that kind of special since adding Little Dude to the picture. I have to tip my hat to folks like you. Hey, teenagers will rapidly age you! Oh boy, when you look back to when they were toddlers you’ll think, “Man, those were the easy years” and then you’ll wish for those days back again. lol Thanks for voting for Michael or in this case Barry. The polls closed Monday but you’ll be happy to knowyour pick won! 😉
Hey, Hot Legs mama! I’m glad you had a great Mother’s Day! I’m wanting a hamburger and fries now that you mention it. I never had kids and I never regretted it. I feel it is a personal and individual thing. I do have my catkid and will always have pets. I’m going with Dusty. I just like her voice and I’ve never been much of a Barry Manilow fan.
Eugenia,
I often wonder about couples who decide to stay childless if they have regrets, but I’m glad that you do not. Parenting isn’t for everyone. There are days when I question why and did I do the right thing but then I realize that with the sorrow there is also joy and lots of it. In the end, the happiness parenting has given triumphs the lumps and bumps. Thanks for stopping by for a visit and for voting!

My being childless wasn’t my choice and I still have no regrets. I felt what is meant to be will be. What breaks my heart is to see parents abuse their children. Some that have children don’t deserve them.
Eugenia,
I’m glad you don’t have regrets regardless. Sometimes, like you said, it’s not meant to be. At least you were able to move forward. It’s hard for some to do that. Oh, I agree that parents who abuse their kids just so don’t deserve them. It’s heartbreaking!
Hey Cathy,
It’s so nice being back in Battleville! Sounds like you had a wonderful Mother’s Day. I’ve never been to a Culvers but I do love a good burger and fries now and then. I don’t even know if they have Culvers around here. I recognize the name and know I’ve seen them before but not sure where. Probably in my travels since I don’t think I’ve ever noticed them here in Austin.
Great photo of you! Adorable outfit. Great legs! I wish I had legs like that!!
Re: having children: I have never ever had that maternal calling, for human babies that is. I’m quite maternal when it comes to dogs but I have never wanted kids. I knew that from a very young age. My best friend from college, who I’m still in touch with, is just like me: she never wanted kids either and is very happy being just her and her husband and their dog. Interestingly, my best friend here in Austin just had her 7th child a few weeks ago! I always tell her that God put her on earth to be a Mom. She is an incredible Mom. I don’t know how she does it. We were all very surprised — and so was she and her husband — when she gave birth to a boy. All her other children are girls and we all expected her to have another girl. She says it’s an adjustment when you’ve raised girls all your life to suddenly have a little boy in the mix. Her husband said he feels sorry for him because “his sisters are going to eat him alive!” All the other girls wanted her to have a girl except one: she wanted a brother so that she woudn’t have to play the role of the father anymore when they play House! haha.
Anyway, on to your battle: Dusty’s vocals didn’t do anything for me. I much preferred Barry Manilow’s version. One of my best friends from high school was a huge Barry Manilow fan. He loved his music and was quite a talented musician himself. Every time I hear Barry Manilow I think of my long-lost friend Dave…
Thanks for all the well-wishes while I was going through all my “stuff” over the last few months. And the wonderful e-card you sent sure did make me happy! It’s been rough for sure, but having friends like you who checked in on me and kept me in their prayers made all the difference. Thanks so much! <3
XOXO,
Michele at Angels Bark
Michele,
There is nothing that can prepare you for parenthood. All of your best intentions, well-thought-out plans go straight out the window with each child you bring into the world. I’ve concluded you gotta be a bit out of your head to have kids and if you’re not then you will soon find yourself in that boat ‘out-of-your-head’. 🙂 Your friend with the seven kids must be a very special person. I knew by the time our son was born that three was my limit and in 2001 when I began having problems again with ovarian cysts I told my doctor to do whatever he thought was necessary because I was done having children. There’s nothing wrong with not wanting kids. It’s not for everyone.

Happy Mother’s Day, again! You are beautiful.
Dusty has my vote, her voice touched me on this one.
Thanks, Mimi for the visit, kind compliment, and vote! 😉

Michael Bublé (Barry Manilow the real singer) – 9
I am going to go with Dusty due to her voice. Though to start off with the vocals on this song like she did was a gamble but it worked for me!
Mike,
I’m leaning toward Dusty but I haven’t decided for sure, though.
Dusty Springfield – 3
Michael Bublé (Barry Manilow the real singer) – 8
I’m not a big Manilow fan, so my vote is for Dusty Springfield. Her rendition is so beautiful anyway, so I would’ve voted for her regardless.
Kimberly,
Oh goody, another vote for Dusty!
Dusty Springfield – 2
Michael Bublé (Barry Manilow the real singer) – 8
I prefer Manilow because of the way he styled the song to his voice and the accompaniment(spelling??) with it. Dusty was good but it was to airy for me. You look great! Looking at the meal made me gain another 5lbs. I’m glad you had a nice Mother’s day. My mom and dad never thought of having kids and when she became pregnant with my brother, they thought it was perfectly fine to ship him off to her parents in Austria. once she held her son, wild horses couldn’t drag him away from her.
Birgit,
Holding your baby in your arms the first time changes your heart forever. 🙂

Hi, CATHY! It’s that me — Stephen T.
Wow! Because you’re so slim, you sure look quite a bit taller than 5’2″!
I double-checked and Debbie is right. The male vocalist is indeed Barry Manilow, not Michael Buble. Nevertheless, he still gets my vote in this Battle. Probably for no reason other than that male vocalists generally appeal to me more than female vocalists do. (Never mind the fact, though, that Karen Carpenter is my favorite vocalist of all time, male OR female!)
I hope you’re having a fantabulous week, my friend!

STMcC Presents ‘BATTLE OF THE BANDS’
Stephen,
It’s the heels that make me look taller. lol My pumps add an extra 3.25 inches to my height. 🙂 You should see my shadow…I not only look lots taller but a lot slimmer. lol
I appreciate yours and Debbie’s correction in this battle. I can’t believe I made such a goof! Well…yeah, I can! Thanks for stopping by to vote for the guy anyhow.

Michael Bublé (Barry Manilow the real singer) – 7
Hi Cathy; Sounds like you had a lovely Mother’s Day. Great photo – Hot Legs, Mama! 😀 How do you manage to eat all that fattening food and stay so slim? I’m envious of that. LOL On to your battle…
Such a heartbreaking story about Michael Buble’s son, Noah, but it has a happy ending, thank goodness! Noah is okay now and Michael has gone back to work. I love his voice, but this vocal sounds so different! Is it really him singing? Did a little research and it appears that the singer is actually Barry Manilow. Anyway, I still preferred this over Dusty Springfield’s version, so it gets my vote, regardless. Thanks for voting in my BOTB as well. Have a great rest of the week!
Debbie,
I like that nickname, ‘Hot Legs, Mama’. I have always been on the slim side but I’ve seen heavier days. It’s not easy keeping it off given I love food. I’m constantly in check of what I eat and try to exercise whenever possible. Growing up I saw women get married, have kids, and then morph into someone not recognizable. That made me a bit paranoid, I think. So, I made sure to stay on top of my weight. In 2006, my mother was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes. Somewhere around that time, I gained 30 pounds and my sugar level put me close to pre-diabetic and that really put the fear in me. The weight gain was brought on due to menopause. I had a hysterectomy in 2001 but was not put on hormone replacement. Once I began that, I also threw the breaks on bad eating habits and began working out regularly. It struggled but I got it off. I don’t want to be forced to not have things I love because of diabetes not to mention all the horrible little friends this disease brings with it. I put some weight on over the holidays which I’m now getting serious to take off. What I need to do is being more discipline so to not throw myself into panic mode when the weather warms again. lol I appreciate your sweet comments. You’re way too kind!
Alrighty, I really appreciate you letting me know of my major goof up with the male artist. I am not sure how I did this but what’s done is done. I guess I tell everyone it’s Buble and they took me at my word. I think I’m slightly bonkers.
Dusty Springfield – 1
Michael Bublé (Barry Manilow the real singer) – 6
You seem pretty disciplined to me! Certainly much more than I am. My resolve to workout regularly usually fizzles after a couple of weeks and I’m depending more on longer walking these days. The Fitbit helps with that as well as calorie counting. The only reason I noticed the difference in vocals is because I’m a Michael Bublé superfan. His voice is much richer and deeper in tone than Barry Manilow’s. Not a big deal, since it’s still male vs female singers. 🙂
Debbie,
I’m not nearly as disciplined as I’d like to be so I blame my shortcomings on being human. lol I’m glad you caught my mix up, all the same, my friend.
Happy Mothers Day, Cathy!
I don’t know that I’ve ever heard this song before. I think both Dusty and Michael do it justice, but I am leaning more toward Buble on this one.

Jingle Jangle Jungle
Mary,
Thanks for the happy Mother’s Day thoughts. 🙂 I read through my comments before getting to yours and it appears I made a big goof. I don’t know what’s wrong with me. It looks like everyone is not voting for Michael Bublé. Well…they are but the singer isn’t Bublé. It’s actually Barry Manilow. *smack forehead* I don’t know how I did this unless I assumed it somehow. Shame on me!!! Oh well…another vote goes to the guy anyhow, right?

Michael Bublé (Barry Manilow the real singer) – 5
Well aren’t you young! Still eating fries and wearing shorts. I have up shorts (never fries) years ago. Happy Mothers Day, dear efriend.
Jacqui,
I totally fighting my age. I hope I can keep this up for a few years more before everyone looks at me strangely. Maybe, they do now and I just don’t want to see it. lol Why should the young have all the fun? I’m young at heart. That counts for a lot, right? Thanks for the M-Day wishes. I hope you had a good one, too!
You are beautiful, Cathy. First time I’ve seen a picture of you. I was a grandmother at 40 and she’s the light of my life.
I love Dusty, but Michael Bublé is my choice. Wow, he’s good.
Have a fabulous day and week, my friend. Hugs. ♥
Sandee,
Ah, everyone is so sweet this morning with all these nice things! They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Isn’t it neat how others see you? We are our own worse critics! Thanks for your kind words. 🙂
This battle is turning into another lopsided count but it could change. Thanks for playing along!

That is a great photo of you. Glad you had a nice Mother’s Day. I choose Michael Buble, not sure why, but I tend to prefer male singers.
Ellen,
I generally prefer male vocals, too. Thanks for stopping by for a visit and your vote!

darling photo of you!
Thanks, Kathe!
My wife and I ate in a Culver’s in Madison, WI a couple years ago. I’d never heard of it before, but I saw several locations on that trip. Now reading about the chain I see that it started in Wisconsin. I’m surprised to see that they are now also in Knoxville, but that’s pretty cool. I don’t remember much about the food, but I do believe I got a milkshake that was pretty good. Now you’ve made me want to try another Culver’s.
Never heard this song to my knowledge. I’ve always liked Dusty Springfield and I do prefer her version of this song. She gives the song such an ethereal deeply meaningful sound. Dusty gets my vote on this.

Lee,
We first ran into Culver’s in Nashville but never ate there, so when we noticed this one going in last year we were excited. We need to go back to Five Guys soon to see how they now stack against the newcomer. Your vote give Dusty her first count. Thanks for stopping by!

Hi, Cathy!
First let me apologize for mistaking your son for your sister in my comment on yesterday’s post. I think I told you that I am not very good with abbreviations and I guessed wrong on that one. So, to correct my mistake, happy birthday to your son, dear friend! Next, let me tell you that this is the first time I ever laid eyes on you and I agree with Martha – you are adorable! With all the burgers, fries and ice cream you consumer, you apparently never gain an ounce. Good for you! I can easily see why you enjoy being and dressing like a feminine girly girl and why DH cherishes you so much.
Turning to your band battle, I enjoyed both entries. I usually favor female vocalists over male vocalists, but I am not a huge fan of the smoky voiced Dusty Springfield. I love a few of her early recordings and have them in my collection, but most of her later work did not appeal to me as much. Therefore, my vote goes to Michael Bublé. He has a Neil Sedaka thing going on there, a version of “I Am Your Child” that is simple, straightforward and not overwrought.
I vote for Michael. Thank you very much, dear friend Cathy!
Tom,
No problem with the mix-up. It’s an easy thing to do. 🙂 Thanks for the bday wishes for DS. Trust me when I say, I do gain weight. I have to fight tooth and nail to keep it off. I actually need to drop 10 pounds. I’m not very tall (5’2″) and I have a small frame making the excess quite noticeable. Dropping a couple pounds will even make a huge difference in how I look. It’s just crazy. However that being said, I do appreciate your kind compliment. I do enjoy the girly girl dress code. The pumps I’m wearing is the classic style I mentioned liking in a recent post. I’ve had these shoes for a long time, too.
That’s the one thing I like about Dusty’s voice, that smoky quality. I haven’t decided which artist gets my vote, though. Thanks for weighing in this round of BoTB and for the visit, my friend!

Happy Mother’s Day, Cathy! And aren’t you just adorable – love that photo. I’m glad you had a nice day.
Tough call on BotB. Dusty Springfield has a one-of-a-kind voice, and normally I’d go with her right away, but….Lovelovelove Michael Bublé and this song! For his son! Gotta vote for Michael. 🧡🎶🙌
Martha,
Thank you for visiting. You’re much too sweet. I did have a good Mother’s Day. DH knows how to treat this gal right! 😉
