How to Critique a Manuscript

To critique or not to critique, that’s the question.  Okay…I’m not a Shakespeare buff.  However, critiquing another person’s work I must admit makes me a bit uncomfortable because I’m simply not a technical person.  How can I help someone when I can’t explain properly why a sentence doesn’t sound right? I figured if I had insecurity issues with offering a personal critique than others surely do, too. With that in mind, I felt I needed some solid tips on how to properly critique another person story and I stumbled across this article with some helpful advice, A Children’s Writers Guide to Critiquing Manuscripts.  I hope it helps you, too!

  1. Margaret, you’re welcome. I hope it helps. I joined an online critique group yesterday called, Critique Cafe. I hope to benefit from this resource soon.=)

  2. Hi Cathy. Thanks for the tip. I made a hard copy of the “Children’s Writer’s Guide to Critiquing Manuscripts” to take to my critique group tomorrow.
