To bring out the kid in me on a cold winter’s day, there nothing like a cup of home-made hot chocolate to chase away the chill. Try this easy single serving singe recipe!
1 1/2 Tbsp. Ghiradelli Unsweetened Cocoa
1 1/2 Tbsp. sugar
1 cup milk
1/8 tsp. vanilla
dash of salt
Microwave: Mix cocoa and sugar, set aside. Pour milk into a 2-cup glass measuring cup. Heat milk on high power for 1 – 2 minutes. Add cocoa mixture, vanilla, & salt to hot milk and whisk well. Finish with your choice of toppings – marshmallows or whipped cream.
Hot Chocolate isn’t for everyone. That’s okay. How about some hot coffee? Save your money on over-priced lattes on the run and make your own homemade lattes. It’s really simple!
Brew a pot of dark roast coffee. I use either Italian or French roast. Add three-fourths to one ounce of your favorite Torani sugar-free syrup to a 12-ounce cup of coffee, then top with Reddi Wip. I like to garnish the top with some sprinkles of cinnamon or drizzle of chocolate syrup. Isn’t this lovely?
Not a coffee drinker, no worries! How about a cup of hot tea? Regardless, if I have hot chocolate or a hot cup of coffee in the mornings, I always have a cup of hot tea to start my morning. Here are some of my hot tea selections…
Homemade hot chocolate, hot fresh lattes, or hot tea are excellent hot beverages to wrap yourself in warmth on a cold winter’s day to put a happy smile on your face.

1. How do you best enjoy your favorite hot beverage? Please paint a beautiful scene with words.
- What is favorite dish to prepare for cold winter days? If you have a recipe, feel free to share it with us!
1. I cherish the thoughts of nesting a steamy hot latte between my hands, as I snug on the sofa with my cozy fleece blanket draped across my legs while I watch a movie. This is one thing, we often did during the holidays. We sat in the living room in the warm ambiance of the soft glowing Christmas lights while sipping on festive lattes. It not only filled our bodies with warmth, but our spirits with a sweet peace.
2. One of my favorite meals to fix on cold winter days are soups or chili. My mother-in-law passed to me a delicious Corn beef, Cabbage, & Vegetable Soup recipe, I use to make often when our kiddos were small. It’s been years, since I made any.
The ingredient list is simple: 2 cans corn beef, 1 small head of cabbage, 1 bag frozen mixed vegetables, 1 can crushed tomatoes, 1 small onion, salt, & pepper. Throw everything in a large pot and cook until the cabbage is tender. It seems like I added water to the mix, if it appeared the liquids were too low. Also, I spiced my recipe up by dashing in some hot sauce or adding a bit of red pepper flakes (a little goes a long way!). I served this soup with hot, fresh corn bread and MMM, what a delicious meal!
Keep warm!

Cathy, you are so cute.
I love your choices here. It made me smile! I can just picture you being a wonderful hostess.
The corned beef and cabbage soup sounds really good. I might try that in the crockpot!
Thanks for a fun link for the letter “H”.
A+
I know it’s not the same as reddi-whip but a milk frother will give you “similar” results but no calories due to skim milk being used.
Yeah, I know.
Me too.
I’d rather have the reddi-whip or
REAL WHIPPED CREAM…YUMMO!
Your pictures look like you visited my kitchen! I love the Torani sugar-free syrups! And also have a variety of many of the same herbal tea, but give me a good cup of coffee in the morning!
That’s a nice quick recipe to make together as a family.
1. I drink my hot beverage early morning while making kids breakfast and lunches.
Or while finally relaxing all on my own in the night.
2.I don’t have a favorite meal to cook during winter. I just rotate the meal plans just as I do all year.
Soup is always a fave though.
Happy weekend!
It’s a good thing my son isn’t looking over my shoulder. He would order me out of the house for some of that delicious hot chocolate… I like to have a little of all three!!! 🙂 Good thing there is a cold front coming tonight…I might enjoy some hot chocolate :).
Now I want hot chocolate
Our temps are dropping so any hot beverage sounds good right now. I like my coffee black most of the time but once in awhile I will make a latte.
Our favorite cold weather meal is vegetable beef soup. I usually have the meat in the freezer and add whatever vegetables are on hand. When it simmers on the stove the whole house smells good. My husband loves it when I make my southern cornbread to go with the soup.
I love your post today. Even though I am trying to stay away from all the coffee and addictive food and drinks, I still love just looking at it.
My favorite food for cold days is soup, any kind of soup, but poridge hits the spot, and my kids love it too. Here is my post on Pacify Poridge: http://www.selfsagacity.com/2010/02/pacify-rice-porridge.html
I’m one of those odd ones who doesn’t like hot chocolate. And I don’t drink coffee. And tea just doesn’t seem to do it for me if I’m cold. An occasional hot cider with plenty of cinnamon and some lemon in it, now that’s the ticket. 😉
sounds yummy visiting from Jenny Matlock
mmm…hot chocolate on a cold day is so yummy. I’m grabbing the recipe for the coffee/latte. My daughter is a Starbucks fanatic, but she being a college student, she is on a budget. Now I have an idea for a college care package.
Visiting from alphabe-thursday.
Julie
Oh yes, indeed, this sounds perfect right now as we have just gotten the big artic freeze!
I’m all about the hot chocolate with whipped cream.
And I love a cup of peppermint tea, too.
=)
I make my own latte’s, and they are as good as the ones from Starbucks, and sooooo much cheaper. That is one thing that I do to spoil myself.
I love a cup of hot chocolate last thing at night as I read in bed.
Can’t have the whipped cream though, far too naughty!
Happy A-T.
Yummm! It all sounds so good! I’m in soup mode at the moment, but unfortunately it’s the canned variety for me until I’m more my old self. I’ll have to give the corned beef and cabbage soup a try for sure!
Oh my oh my…that sure looks yumo!
I am trying to lose some weight. Soooo, I will not be having any of that! (Sad to say!)
Enjoy your day!
