Horse Whipped NOT and Random Stuff

Posted on June 5, 2012

The last three weeks I’ve procrastinated terribly on my daily exercise regimen. In my defense, DS’s graduation consumed all of my free time. Maybe, I can just blame him. Frankly, I need to be horse whipped for my slackery. Is that even a word? According to the Urban Dictionary slackery is a word.

A spurned Scottish girl, the victim of a broken engagement by her Jersey boyfriend, set upon him with a horse whip after seeing him kiss another girl in the street. He had broken it off after she ordered the wedding dress, which made her feel “a great deal worse.”From the NYT Archive, circa 1887. Thanks to the tipster who brought it to our attention!

Unlike the lad in this article, I believe a horse whipping is too severe of a punishment for myself. I’m sure it’ll hurt enough when I step on the scales next, not to mention the grueling torment of blasting away the unwanted…eh em…weight. It’s back to the ole grindstone a.k.a exercise bike!

Collinswood

Speaking of riding my exercise bike, I decided to watch the old TV series Dark Shadows on Netflix while I melt those pounds away. Do you remember that old show? When  I was a kid I just loved it!

Barnabas Collins played by Jonathan Frid

Like all soap actors, the cast on Dark Shadows is no different – melodramatic. The difference in today’s soaps and this classic is, it is clean – no sex or real violence. Granted, I’ve only watched the first five episodes, but I seriously doubt the 1966 version will vere away from the family-friendly style. Things were a lot different in those years compared now.

Time Out for Mom is ranting about her own battles with the bulge. I so hear your pain, Les! At 50, mom of three, and countless abdominal surgeries I know all too well the struggle it is to getting the tum-tum in shape. I hate it that I can’t get it back to flat again. Hold on to this… it’s easy to do nothing, but in order for change to happen it requires you doing something and that’s the hardest first step! Quit isn’t in my vocabulary, ladies. I, like Les, am not throwing in the towel. I’m fighting my way back to sexy one mile at a time! Here’s a little motivation.

We watched a movie on Netflix over the weekend called,  Faces in the Crowd with Milla Jovovich. This horror-thriller centers around a woman who is the only survivor of a brutal attack of an infamous serial killer who develops a condition which impairs her ability to recognize faces known as “face-blindness”.  The story line intrigued me, but I had reservations.  I’m not a horror film fan. The only reason I gave it a shot was because it was a crime thriller. The movie kept me on the edge of my seat with suspense and I had no clue who the killer was up until the end. I give it 4 out of 5 stars!

Fun = Zumba = Exercise Fun! Yay, girl! I love Zumba!!! It’s so high energy. I need to get into the groove of doing Zumba again, but I’m busy cycling a lot! I’m back at it with my 30 mile rides. You’re gonna get your sexy back before long. The trouble I have is my tummy, too. The thing is I think if I can drop at least 10 pounds, but preferrably 15lbs I’ll see a huge difference. When I was around 102 pounds my tummy wasn’t perfect, but it looked soooo much better. In fact, I looked better all over! =D

    My dear Cathy,
In my opinion…health is more important than size. In fact, women are like flowers, not all blossom the same with age, color or size, yet each one helps decorate the garden and heart of the earth. You are beautiful my friend.

Ooh I’m just now getting back on track with my exercise. Last week was null and void 🙂

We didn’t have tv as kids. I remember peeking in people’s houses when I was a bit older. Interesting gadget it was.

    Aloha 🙂

I’ve been a victim of slackery over here, too. My 9-year old baby belly is proof of that. 😉

I’ve never seen the Dark Shadow…my mom and my favorite to watch when I was a kid was Perry Mason. Must be why I like all the law-type shows now. 😉

Oooh – that Faces In The Crowd movie intrigues me!

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and young children – does that count? 😉

Unfortunately, the interactive book I reviewed only works on the iPad at this time. 🙁 If they are like other companies, then they’ll follow suit in making their product more verstile for more iDevices. You’ll like Faces in the Crowd, but warning – it has a sad ending.

I think I’m close to coming to terms with my new body. I workout and eat right and looks just like it does when I don’t. I may as well enjoy a drink, or twelve!

I don’t like scary movies, Dark Shadows looks scary that’s probably why I have no clue what it is.

    Thanks for joining the party!

I think you have to be comfortable in your skin. If you’ve found that, then I applaud you. I really do! It’s not that I hate where I am, I just know I can be in a better place. This is where I’m aiming to be again.

The old Dark Shadows is hardly anything than scary especially by today’s standards. However, if you were a kid growing up in the mid-60s then yeah, it would frighten you.

i’m 34 and will have my second baby this fall. And we aren’t sure if we’ll be done or not. Not getting my body back scares me. After having my first baby at 31, I realize just how hard you have to work to get it back. I can only imagine how much harder it will be this time. Ugh.

You’re still young enough to reclaim your body. Don’t let it worry you. I think the biggest thing I goofed up on was not watching my weight with my last child. I did get all of my weight off and it was a difficult struggle. My real problem happened about five years post hysterectomy when my body wasn’t producing hormones properly and nothing I did worked. I think this is under control, but I want to drop back to my down to where I was weight wise. All I do is my best and be happy with the rest. Confidence is sexy, right?

Yeah, the creepy music always scared me, too. But, I just loved it! I would kinda like to see the new DS flick with Johnny Dep. I heard it was funny. Maybe, if it comes out on Netflix for free we’ll watch it. I’m just a wee bit skeptical with this one even though it have Dep in the movie.

It’s ridiculously hard to reshape your stomach after having kids; my doctor, though encouraging, told me that honestly, it will never look the same. Sad!

The reality is what it is, but hopefully there are some counter measures we mommies can do to at least give us the appearance of a sleekier tummy without having to undergo drastic measures resulting in depleting the family savings account. lol

I keep saying, if I get the excess off then maybe I’ll consider doing a tummy tuck. However, I don’t like the idea of surgery, so where does this leave a gal? Not to mention the enormous expense behind such a procedure. Seeing how, we don’t have thousands of dollars to hand off to cosmetic surgeon I’m stuck finding self-improvment on my own.
