At the conclusion of my mid-December BOTB results publication, I realized I finally caught up with my scheduled posts. I was worried I might not find the time or find inspiration for my new year battle round.
I wanted something different, something that spoke new beginnings that offers that fresh start feeling and so when I began my search, one of the song titles I skimmed over from the 65 Best Inspirational Songs for Motivation on musicgrotto.com* caught my eye. I found the perfect song fitting two important criteria, fresh starts and a Beatle’s song.
George Harrison wrote and sung “Here Comes the Sun” (reference only) on the bands 1969 Abbey Road album in Eric Clapton’s garden while strumming his guitar. The long English winter partially inspired his song but so did a number of other pivotal moments like him quitting the Beatles temporarily, his arrest for marijuana possession, and minor surgery (tonsillectomy).
“Here Comes the Sun” is a well known track and has been covered several hundred times. There’s been a handful of artists who’ve scored hit singles covering this classic Beatles track but I decided to use the first two artists that perked my ears.
Please listen, pick your favorite cover, and leave the name of your artist choice in comments.
First contender – Christina Perri
Second contender – The Petersens
Polls close at noon (ET) on the 7th!

That concludes another edition of Battle of the Bands. I hope you have time to check out the other battles underway. A list of participants is the footer section of my site beneath the BOTB banner.
This is CAAC signing off, don’t forget to check back next week for the showdown results.

*Having grown exhausted fixing text link backs, I made the decision to remove or not use them except occasionally. I will mention the material source as needed.

Christina Perri had a lovely voice, but the arrangement just didn’t do it for me. I’ll go with The Petersens. I liked their arrangement….
Thanks for making it over to vote in my first battle round. I have you down for The Petersens, my friend!
Happy New Year! I have to give it to Christina because I liked the sound of the piano and she just gave the right notes to this. I’m not sure if I could handle her voice through every song but this was nicer than the 2nd one.
Happy New Year, Birgit!
Thanks for voting for Christina Perri! I hope 2025 is an excellent year for you and yours!
Great song choice! Christina Perri gets my vote for sounding like that much needed hug feels after you fell off your bike in front of everybody. Simply very nice.
Diedre,
I love the way Christina Perri’s version made feel. Thanks for sharing and for voting for her!
Cathy, it’s the Petersons for me. I like hearing the instruments along with the voices.
Gotcha down for The Petersens, my dear! Thanks for starting off my new year right with your participation.
You’re welcome, Cathy!
We liked the Peterson’s Sun more, CK, it’s the mewsic that made the choice for us
Double Pawkisses for a Happy, Healthy and Joyful New Year to you and your family too. Make it a great one

Thanks for voting for The Petersens, Granny and boys! I’m sending many happy returns to you and yours this new year. xo
HiYa, CAThy!
Happy New Year!!
(What I lack in originality I compensate for with sincerity.)
There aren’t a lot of Beatles songs I really like, but this is one of them.
I thought the Christina Perri version was OK but, after awhile, her ‘little girl voice’ started to get on my last nerve a little bit.
I felt The Petersens version (although it too featured a ‘little girl voice’) was a bit more instrumentally varied and interesting, so that’s where my first vote on your first Battle of 2025 lands.
Bless & Be Blessed, my friend!

Happy New Year, Stephen!

It’s good to know that I picked a Beatles’ song that you actually liked in this round. The little girl voices of each artist I knew posed a problem for many in my circle but I enjoyed both. I put you down for The Petersens. Thanks for stopping by, my friend!
VOTE = THE PETERSENS
I like the fully instrumentation an the vocal harmonies. ~Ed.
Ed,
Thanks for voting for The Petersens, my friend!
I like the Petersens best but the other is really nice. Happy New Year 2025 from all of us at Brian’s Home!
I’m glad that I doubled checked the voting because I some how missed recordings yours. Thanks for playing along, my furriend. Another vote goes to Christina Perri!
I liked both, the Petersens get my vote, it was the instruments which gave it the down home feel.
Mimi,
Excellent, The Petersens secured your vote! Thanks for dropping by to play along. I hope 2025 is a wonderful year for you and your family, my dear! xo
This is a song I’ve always liked because of its optimism and feel good nature. Both of your presented versions are fine. Very relaxing.
Right now I’m digging the simplicity and peacefulness of Christina Perri’s version. The other group might get my vote some other time, but for now I vote Christina.
Lee
Lee,
I’m delighted you enjoyed both covers. I found both versions to be very nice. Thanks for casting your vote for Christina Perri! Be happy and well throughout the new year, my friend!

Thanks for voting for The Petersens, my dear!
Happy New Year, Cathy!
Winter sun is always welcome, since we have so many dark and dreary days. Neither one of these covers really grabbed me, but I preferred Christina Perri’s arrangement, so I’ll vote for her.
Happy New Year, Debbie!
We get our share of gray, dreary days but we do see a number of sunny ones which is especially wonderful in the winter. It’s such a frigid day. However the sun is out making it feel much nicer indoors. I don’t even want to go outside! Thanks for voting for Christina Perri in this round!
Happy New Year Cathy!
Casting my vote for Christina Perri
-Mary
Happy New Year, Mary!
Here’s hoping 2025 is a MUCH better year for you. The first vote goes to Christina Perri!
Wishing you and your family a happy and healthy new year. XO
Ellen,
Thank you for the warm wishes for 2025. All the same to you and yours, darlin’! xo
