Welcome to Monday’s Mewsic Moves Me on Sundays! This week’s theme is in honor of Driller’s upcoming Diamond Jubilee 75th birthday in a couple of week, he wants us to salute November born musicians by sharing some of their songs.
When I originally set this post up I used tomorrow’s date to find my artist. Leif Garrett turns 60 on Monday. I’ll be joining the 60s club next month. I remember Garrett as a TV actor but I couldn’t tell you what shows he was on. I took a glance at the TV series he was cast in and the only show I recall watching regularly in the mid-70s was Family. I don’t think that was the program that he caught my eye but I do recall his appearance in Tiger Beat magazine. I thought he was cute. It was his appearance in the 1975 TV drama Three for the Road which I didn’t watch that sparked the Tiger Beat spread. I think around the time Tiger Beat came out I was aware of Garrett’s singing career but I didn’t own any of his music and I’m not sure I even heard any of it before now. I was surprised to learn from Wiki that Garrett recorded eight albums between 1977-2009. YouTube has these two albums playlists from 1977 and 1979. Today, I’m sharing his entire 1978 Feel the Need album from which is most successful single I Was Made for Dancing peaked #10 in the USA.
Sadly, Leif Garrett’s life took a horrible downward spiral which I was reminded after I the article The Tragic Real-Life Story of Leif Garrett. I don’t know if he has his act together now but I hope so for his sake and for those who love him best. Thanks for going down memory lane with Leif Garrett with me. 😉

This month’s honorary co-host is Driller’s Place

This is a mewsic linky party. Every other week we have a suggested mewsic theme (see side menu) to build your song set around and all participants share YouTube or Vimeo videos for our mewsic enthusiasts. Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.
Calling all 4Mers, I would love to have you as honorary co-host for a month next year. The calendar is beginning to fill. January, February, March, June, July, and December are now booked. If you’d like to pick a month then please email me now so I can hold your spot. That’s a wrap for now. I’m officially on vacation and will do my best to make return visits in a timely fashion. I plan to be back slaying things, hopefully, in Blogosphere once again on November 15. Until then, y’all take care and have a boogietastic week! X💋X💋, Cathy

Great job my friend, always a great job. I still don’t quite have the hang of it, but I will eventually I’m sure. Practice makes perfect as they say, but for now it’s late and I’m tired from the late night I had last night. Hope you’re puttin’ you feet up and taking it easy also. Talk to ya soon my dearest. hugs, Marie
I remember Leif Garrett was in an episode of “Wonder Woman,” but that’s the only time I’ve seen him. Good list!
Wow, Leif Garrett was a little before my time. I do remember him on Solid Gold when I was a kid. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.
I can honestly say that there has never been a Leif Garret song in my music collection, By the time he became popular, I was married with a baby daughter and trying to finish up my college education after a long delay. In 1977 I was listening to “Lucille” by Kenny Rogers, “I Heard it in a Love Song” by the Marshall Tucker Band, and Rita Coolidge, “Your Love Has Lifted Me Higher & Higher”. Like Thomas, I found this album to be much more enjoyable than I was expecting. Have a blessed week.
Oops, I’m glad you said it was a he, I wasn’t quite sure.
That is a fun theme. I love this time of year when we get the extra hour. 🙂 XO
He was quite popular for a time, and i had one of his albums (i can’t remember which one). Like you, i hope he has things together now. It can be hard to live in that glass fishbowl of fame.
Ah, Leif Garrett and Tiger Beat Magazine… for those of us who even know those names, I guess that says it all! I remember that photo of Leif (he was such a cutie back in the day – of course, all you needed back then was big hair to catch a gal’s eye!) but the song I think I remember him from was Runaround Sue. And yes, I was so sad for him to see the way his life turned out…
But (totally embarrassing confession) I was hooked on Tiger Beat back in the day when a certain teen idol hit it big – the only one I ever had a crush on – and I always wonder if anyone else had a crush on this guy or even remembers who he was! Of course, I am NOT going to tell you who it is unless you guess (what fun would there be in that) – it isn’t Leif Garrett – but today’s post made me smile!
Have a wonderful week Cathy! 🙂
Wow haven’t thought of Leif in decades. Well why would i, right? Yep clocks change. It is stupid thing we do and needs to stop. Hey, just my opinion. Have a great day today.
I was grown by the time Leif Garrett came along, and my Tiger Beat days were way over but wow, what looks he had. So I read a bit about his tragic life and how, drunk and high, he got into a car accident with such tragic injuries to his passenger. Now, at 59, his looks are way different. I found the music pleasant. It’s good backround music. He’s a good singer. I enjoyed his cover of Sheila (and its tempo change from the original) and I Was Made for Dancing and yes, Fun Fun Fun (that one may have been my favorite). Some of these really got my foot to tapping, a good thing as we don’t have heat right now and are waiting for a repairperson to come!
Hi, Cathy!
Happy Pawww-some 4M Monday on Sunday, dear friend! Did you get your extra hour of sleep last night? Its nice to see you taking a break from your break and returning to CAAC. I hope you ad DH are well and in good spirits.
Awww- I can’t decide if I’d rather smooch that kitty or take a big bite of that “cat burger.”
Happy 60th birthday tamale to child actor, singer and teen idol Leif Garrett. I remember him on the cover of Tiger Beat and other teen fanzines. I might have seen him in a couple of the TV series listed in his credits, most likely the two-part episode of CHiPs entitled “Roller Disco” in 1979.
I didn’t collect Leif’s mewsic, and the entire album you posted is new to my ears this morning. I like his bubbly cover of The Young Rascals’ hit “Groovin.” The album’s title song “Feel The Need” takes us deep in the heart of Disco. I can picture a large group of young people on skates boogieing to that song at a roller rink or an outdoor venue in the California sun. I really like the breezy, melodic song “When I Think of You” and the nostalgic pictures it paints. His cover of The Beach Boys’ hit “Fun, Fun Fun” is excellent, my favorite song on the album! Had it been released as a single, I think it could have been a hit. “Living Without Your Love” is another great song. It reminds me of The Bee Gees’ “How Deep Is Your Love.” Leif’s cover of Tommy Roe’s “Sheila” is also a groovy version. By now I am primed to hear the hit Disco single from the album, “I Was Made for Dancin’.” Leif was a fine singer, and I find myself liking this top 10 pop hit more than I did in the past.
Yessum, like many child stars, Leif led a trouble-filled life with financial problems, drug abuse and arrests for possession.
To sum it up, I enjoyed this Leif Garrett album a lot more than expected and I thank you for posting it. I wish you more fun and good times as your hiatus continues. Have a great week, dear friend Cathy!
