Glow #art

A new month is less than 48 hours away with January coming to a close. Today’s art prompt is GLOW.  There’s the glow of a sunset or sunrise, the glow of celestial bodies in the night sky, the glow of neon lights, the glow of a fire burning, the glow of love, and dozens of other possibilities. Rain offered some excellent images to jump start my imagination. Why a few years back I did Procreate sketch of Moonlight Swans which fits the glow prompt.  In the end, one thought came to mind when I pictured the word glow and that’s the glow of  a woman expecting a child.

I recall when I was pregnant with our first. My BIL commented how I glowed.  I didn’t see it. However, thinking back on it I think the glow he and others saw in me I believe was a deep happiness I had shining forth.  I was on cloud 9 the whole time despite my morning sickness and even then I felt elated. I count myself blessed to experience carrying another life inside me once, twice, three times!

The pregnancy glow has me curious, is it real? According to The Science of ‘Pregnancy Glow’ article I read, it is indeed a fact.  The increase blood volume and hormones in a woman’s body is one of the reasons she has the glowing appearance.

Earlier in the week, Eugenia posted her Monday word challenge  ‘glimmer’ which got me to thinking about my illustration and how to tie the two together when I penned this verse.

Eugi’s Causerie

Rick James released ‘Glow’ in 1985. James’ song is about his lady’s love making her glow and it makes her beautiful but you know James’ song works for expecting mothers, they glow and their beautiful so let your feeling show. 😉

Thanks for stopping in with your coffee for a peek at my masterpiece and …oh yeah for not spilling it on my artwork. 😉

It’s a super pleasure to share my newest illustration with you this morning. 😘  Follow me to Rain’s Garden to browse through the gallery of artistry!

Tomorrow is DH’s off-Friday and while I will MIA in Blogosphere, I did schedule my February 1st BoTB, so come on by to cast your vote for your favorite artist!

    1. Monica,

Pregnancy is a special time. I often reflect on that part of my life with fond memories. I’m blessed to have experienced it. Thanks! 🙂

  1. Hi Cathy !! 🙂 I LOVE YOUR GLOW!!! And it’s interesting about the science behind it, though I’d prefer to think of it as simple happiness and gratitude!!! And lol…thank you for Rick James, SuperFreak himself lol! Wonderful entry, thanks so much for joining in!!! 🙂

  2. That was so lovely, CK. Thanks for sharing💗Unfortunately Granny missed that glow in her pregnancy, she has never been so sick in her life right after the first three months🙀That song is pawsome though…, at least that made her glow…MOL😸Pawkisses for a Happy Weekend🐾😽💞

    1. Binky,

I was terribly sick especially with both of my girls and somewhat sick with my son. I even had hives for about a week with my girls that drove me nuts. Pregnancy hormones apparently reacting differently. I’ve heard some say they have more issues when prego with girls than with boys and vise versa. My grandma told me she was sicker with her boys. Thanks for stopping by! 😉

  3. Hi Cathy, there certainly is a glow both inside and out during pregnancy we are blessed if we experience it ourselves. Love how you used Rains theme to bring thought thoughts and sketch to life. There’s so many possibilities with Rain’s Glow theme. Thank you for sharing.

  5. I’ve heard a woman has a glow about her when she is pregnant. Perhaps, not all but most women do. Beautiful poem and artwork, Cathy. Thank you for participating.

  6. I’ve often heard this reference to a glow of pregnancy. Not sure that I would identify it as such, but I like the concept. Your artwork certainly has a glow to it–nice depiction.

Thanks for the Birthday greeting card!

    1. Lee,

I think some women look prettier when they are expecting but to say I’ve noticed that ‘glow’ I can attest. After my daughter delivered her baby girl, I did notice her face glowing. It was so beautiful. I’m so happy I was able to experience my grand-daughetr’s birth. 🙂 You’re welcome. I hope you’re having a good bday!

  7. Oh you have found that greatest glow of all … your artwork captures the beauty of those nine month of pregnancy and all of their glow. I agree that it is a wonderful time in a woman’s life. I can remember feeling sad after my second was born because I knew it would be my last and I didn’t want it to be over. That was the plan ( I grew up in the years when Zero Population Growth was the theme … replace only yourselves and the population explosion would be brought under control). My mother was an OB Nurse and where ever we went she would be greeted by a woman who remembered her as she was there in their grandest moment, the birth of their child. What a wonderful post, Cathy …

    1. Andrea,

Pregnancy is a wonderful time in most women’s life. I remember when I had my hysterectomy and while I was totally happy having the three kids that we do part of me yearned just a little for one more go at it but it wasn’t meant to be. Thanks for visiting and leaving your lovely thoughts. Have a blessed weekend!

  8. Love your artwork as always. Yes I do believe women glow when they are pregnant. Not all, but many. I felt great during my pregnancy. My doctor said I was built to have babies. Lots of them.

Have a fabulous day, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥

  9. Hi Cathy, thanks for sharing your beautiful art, words, thoughts and music for the ‘glow’ theme. Rain has some great ideas to get us thinking. Have a happy day and a good start in the new month. Hugs, Valerie

    1. Valerie,

I agree Rain’s ideas are excellent. I’d be lost without her suggestions. Thanks for joining and for your kind words of encouragement.
