Funny How Time Slips Away

Awww Mondays hosted by Sandee from Comedy Plus.

Good morning, folks!  I hope you had a nice weekend.  Before, I begin spinning tunes for you let me draw attention to yesterday’s post highlighting the outcome in my Writing’s On The Wall BOTB.

This week’s theme is Time. Song lyrics or titles mentioning time, or calendars, or days of the week, offered from Alana at RamblinwithAM. I think this is a perfect prompt with the passage of the old year into the new.   Are you ready to hit the dance floor?

This is a music linky party.  The 4M co-hostess are listed in my side bar.   Every other week we have a suggested music theme to build your song set around and all participants share YouTube or Vimeo videos for our music enthusiasts.  Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.

I went broad with my search using “Time”.  Funny How Time Slips Away crossed my eyes.  The vintage tune released in June 1961 by country artist Billy Walker. The song was written by Willie Nelson.  He recorded his song a year later.  I thought the song was a perfect fit for today’s line up which you’ll see on my playlist but I used a cover artist.  This song gave me the idea to find a song for each month of the year.  I used the resource 100 Best Songs with Months at Spinditty to create my music collection.  I breezed over the song titles, listened to a few seconds of the song, and if it resonated well then I added it to my list.  I think many of these are new to me.  I hope you enjoy the set.

Playlist tracks: 1. Funny How Time Slips Away – The Spinners 2. January Man -Christy Moore 3. February Song – Josh Groban 4. Winds of March – Journey 5. April Showers – Koe Wetzel 6. 5 Days In May – Blue Rodeo 7. The Jewel of June – The Milk Carton Kids 8. Something ‘Bout July – Incognito 9. The First Day In August – Carole King 10. September When I First Met You – Barry White 11. My October Symphony – Pet Shop Boys 12. Remember November – Juliana Hatfield 13. Flowers In December – Mazzy Star

Before time slips away from me, let me fill y’all in on some news.  Marie from Xmas Dolly sent an email saying she’s working on getting back into the blogging groove and is ready to resume co-hosting duties.  I added her link with the other 4M co-hostess in my sidebar.  Watch for our girl’s return!  Join me next week on the dance floor.  This is CAAC signing off,  have a boogietastic week! X💋X💋, Cathy

  1. I am eager for Marie to return, and look forward to her old movie music tributes. We don’t treasure time enough when we are young – when we age we realize how much time has slipped today. You picked some great songs today – the Spinners, Carole King, Barry White’s, were my favorites of the playlist. Alana ramblinwitham

    1. Alana, It’s easy to take time for granted. We definitely do not appreciate it when we’re younger, always hurrying it by for something better to happen another day. It’ll be wonderful when Marie gets back to dancing with us. I’ve missed her like everyone else has and it’ll be such fun to have her back where she belongs!

  2. I’m so happy to hear Marie is fine and returning soon. <3
That’s all that stuck with me. Ha! Ha!

And yes, Kindness is contagious, that’s why in all possibility it will be my Word of the year. Ha! Ha! Now i’ve let you in my lil’ secret and others too. ;-))

    1. Natasha,

Imagine the possibilities if every person did on act of kindness each day? This would cause world wide positive change. Thanks for visiting, dear!

      1. Absolutely so, dear Cathy. One of the reasons I wish to choose this word and I believe; kindness starts with self. When we are kind to ourselves that’s when we can reflect it back at others.

I can’t wait to live in a kinder and more compassionate world. And if I don’t, would definitely wish to see my kids, grandkids and great grand kids live in a world brimming with goodness. ✨🌟🤍🤍

        1. Natasha,

You’re right kindness starts with oneself. I also would love to live in a world that’s kinder and more compassionate. Perhaps the things will change and we’ll see these things come to pass in our life. 🙂

  3. We love the way you did your Time Theme, CK and some great songs too, especially the ones we knew😸Great news about Mary🙏Double Pawkisses for a Happy Day to all of you🐾😽💞

    1. Ellen,

Yep, I’m glad Marie is feeling up to tackling things again in Blogosphere soon. Thanks for visiting. Oh yeah, I tried coming by your place but I got an error and couldn’t access your blog. 🙁

  4. That little boy is just hilarious and thank you for the laugh. I’m glad Marie is getting better. I’m certain she is happy to say goodbye to 2022. These songs are good and loved the one with Josh Grobin.

    1. Birgit,

2022 had it’s ups and downs. There for awhile it seemed like it was all downs. I’m hoping this year is the year that we finally find our new forever home. 🙂

  5. Great theme this week. Love the play list.

I’ll participate at some point. Last week was the first week that I had four days off from blogging. It was fabulous.

Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week. Love and hugs. ♥

  6. One of those songs that was so popular in our day but the oldies stations hardly ever play it. It is a life statement. We can look at photos of our children and grandchildren as infants and now they are grown. We wonder where the time went. Did we spend enough quality time with them. Do we make time for each other now. Yes, it’s funny how time slips away. Great music. Thanks fro sharing.

    1. I know what you mean. We tried hard to spend quality time with our kids carving out fun memories. Sometimes it seems only one sided until one of them pulls one of our traditions out of the air that they like doing as adults. It really makes me happy to hear that they’re carrying them forward. Thanks for joining the party, my friend.

  7. Hi, Cathy!

Happy Awww-some 4M Monday, dear friend! I hope you and DH had a nice weekend.

Awww… I just wanna smooch that little toddler after he or she took a tumble while helping shovel snow. Is that one of your home movies, Cathy? Your son or one of your daughters?

I am quite familiar with the song “Funny How Time Slips Away” because it was a chart-topping R&B hit for Joe Hinton in 1964, a version I had for years in my vinyl collection. I enjoyed hearing for the first time the Spinners 1982 recording of the song, a single that made the top 50 on the R&B chart and reached #67 on the Hot 100.

I also appreciate how you ran through the months of the year by posting a song that applies to each month. A song and artist I found especially interesting is Koe Wetzel who does the April song. I read that he’s a Texas singer/songwriter. The Wiki article says his style is variously described as a “blend of rock and country”, outlaw country, and “fusing country and grunge”. His is a refreshingly different sound. I also love the indie folk duo The Milk Carton Kids who sound like Simon & Garfunkel and Crosby, Stills & Nash. I have always liked the Pet Shop Boys and enjoyed their October offering.

Let us remember the Neil Sedaka hit “Calendar Girl” that runs through all the months of the year in a single song. Coincidentally, “April” is in full bloom at Shady’s Place today as I salute Helen & John Ettline in my latest post. Two seldom heard “May” songs that I would like to mention are “First Of May” by the Bee Gees and “Regions Of May” by Tom Rapp’s psychedelic folk/art rock band Pearls Before Swine.

I am happy to learn that friend Marie has bounced back to good health and is ready to resume her hosting duties. I wholeheartedly agree that “kindness is contagious.”

Thank you for the morning musical entertainment to kick-off another week in the new (soon to become old) year 2023. Have a wonderful week, dear friend Cathy!

    1. Tom,

I do remember Neil Sedaka’s hit “Calendar Girl” and I was going to use it when I got the idea of using specific month song titles. It was different from everyone else and it seems most enjoyed the way I did the playlist, so that makes me happy. Thanks for stopping by the party, my friend!
