From Me To You BOTB Showdown

February is the month of love.  It’s undeniable that everyone wants love even if they don’t get chocolates and flowers on Valentine’s Day, right?  I decided it would be a great time to use another Beatles’ song in a battle showdown.

From Me To You written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney released in April 1963 and was the Beatles’ third song.  It became the bands’ first UK #1 single and #2 on most other UK charts.

Here in the America, Del Shannon covered the song. It was more successful than the original making it the Beatles’ first song to enter the US pop charts. The Beatles later re-released it in the US and reached number 41 on the charts.

Today, I’m featuring two versions that are different from what you might expect. Please listen to both, then decide which cover artist you like best.

First up is an American country singer whose name sounds familiar but I can’t say for certain I know his work until now. I give you, Jerry Inman!

The artist next was a new discovery, Jamaican born British blues singer Earl Green!

The original and Shannon’s version were so catchy and upbeat but these covers have a much slower tempo which actually makes me feel the lyrics more. How about you?

That concludes another segment of Battle of the Bands.  Next week, I’ll publish the results of this showdown, along with the artist who earned my vote.

There are other battles underway today. Participants are listed at the bottom of my site beneath the BOTB banner.  As for me, it’s the weekend and MIA in Blogosphere. I will make my rounds on Monday morning bright and early.

Swing by tomorrow for Monday’s Music Moves Me on Sundays. This is CAAC signing off, have a bandtastic day!

Polls close Feb. 7 at 12:00pm Eastern Time!

    1. Diedre,

Earl would’ve been a good pick but I get your switch.

      Jerry Inman gets another vote!

Thanks for your vote, my friend.

  1. CAThy! It’s that YOU!

Earl Green sounded a bit more lively, so that’s where my vote lands. (I can always use a bit more “green” in my life.)

    1. Yep, it’s me, Stephen!

Green is good if it’s vegetables but that’s about as far as I’ll go.

I have you down for Earl Green, my friend. Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Both versions seem a little slow to me, however, I like the bluesy sound of Earl Green. Earl Green gets my vote.

    1. Mimi,

I’m with you, country has grown on me a bit more over the years but not enough to make it my main music staple.

Thanks for voting for Jerry Inman, my dear!

  3. Earl Green gets my vote. Love the upbeat sound better than the first one.

Have a fabulous day and weekend, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥

  4. To be honest, neither of these was a clear winner. They were both too slow. Jerry Inman’s pronunciation annoyed me, too, so Earl Green gets my vote!

    1. John,

I purposely picked these version because they are slow and no one would expect it. I’m sure you figured that out, though. It was neat to find these that I couldn’t resist seeing what others thought.

Earl Green gets another vote. Thanks, my friend!

  5. Wow! These covers are so different from the original. Interesting battle, Cathy! 👌

Countrified Beatles don’t resonate with me, but I really like the bluesy take of Earl Green’s version. Thanks for the introduction!

    1. Debbie,

I’m happy you enjoyed the battle. I liked these different covers and as you said, it made it interesting.

Thanks for voting for Earl Green, my friend!

  6. I’ve loved this song since I first heard the Chipmunks sing it. Then I started appreciating what the Beatles were doing. It’s a good song.
The bluesy version was so-so for me. Okay, but not a grabber. Give my vote to the lush sounds of Jerry Inman whoever he is. I’ve never heard of the guy.

    1. Very unique takes on this classic. I’m voting for Earl Green because the other sounds too country to Mr. Have a wonderful day. We are at -11c which is around 12 F.

      1. Gee Wiz, Birgit it’s cold up there! I’m so happy to live where I live. You’ll never hear me complaining again…okay, I’m lying I’ll probably complain with the next cold snap. lol Thanks for your vote for Earl Green, my dear!
