Wordless Wednesday

Forest sketch #WW

Welcome Kittens & Dawgs! Normally I share my photos current or past in this time slot but today I’m going to share my Scribble Picnic art sketch. Michael challenged us this time with the prompt ‘FOREST‘.  I created two old-school illustrations and two iPad art sketches. Do you want to see what I came up with? I thought you’d never ask.

I am going to share with you the order in which I sketched my drawings.

I want to use this basic design in Procreate but I’ll have to wait until another time to try my hand at it.
The next two illustrations are iPad art sketches created in Procreate.
I then had the idea to pan my image out a bit to bring the mountains into my forest scene. I liked the layout more in this drawing and decided to switch over to pad and pencil.

I like this one a lot and might be my favorite. Overall I’m happiest with my old school attempts.  What do you think?

The ABC Wednesday letter is ‘S‘ to I can’t think of a better subject than SON-IN-LAW.  Ours had a birthday over the weekend, so I can share how I pimped my second iPad art sketch to use for his birthday card.

I love how I can change digital artwork to suit any occasion.  All I had to do is add a layer to splash on some color.

I suspect between now and until the end of the year my blogging life is going to find its way on the back burner.  No, I won’t abandon ship completely but my posts will be fewer, return visits slower, and my response even slower. I say y’all are in the same boat so we’ll just need to cut each other a lot of slack and enjoy the season.

My linky party is open to all regardless of what kind of post you have as long as you’re not a computer bot. Those link-ups will be terminated immediately!

[tweetthis]I linked up with Curious as a Cathy for some not-so #WW fun & I invite you to join the party! #photography[/tweetthis]

Have a good day and please join me tomorrow for Battle of the Bands Round 2!

X💋X💋, Cathy

  1. Your first drawing reminds me of our little brook across the street except there is no bridge there. You have been very busy with this challenge and one can tell that you enjoyed it – thank you for sharing all of your versions. It’s so nice to see how they all unfold. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

    1. Lorraine,

I did enjoy this challenge and I had ample opportunity to devote to my sketches. I’m eager to spend more time with my art and am looking forward to more challenges!

  2. I should clarify, Cathy, we added you manually to the sing up0 so others can catch you as probably you didn;t see it when I got it working. Sorry about that. 🙂

    1. Thank you, Michael! I appreciate you doing that for me. I’m having a tough time lately staying on point with blog hopping. Unfortunately, I believe this is gonna be my normal operation until after the holidays. 😬

  3. Just realised that you are in Knoxville, TN. I wodner how close that is to where we are in KY–Campbellsville, We’d like to go to Chattanooga next year to see the fall colour. 🙂

  4. Wow, that’s a lot of sketching, Cathy! So glad you managed to link up to the picnic after my problems with getting the sign in up! Looks great. My favourite is the last pencil sketch. You can tell you’ve thought it through and each one gets more designed to get you to where you ended up. Fabulous job. So glad you took us on this forested journey, so to speak. 🙂 Hope we see you back again for the next promo, “Say Goodbye to Autumn.”

    1. Michael,

Thanks! I am planning to play along in the next challenge. In fact, I’m working on my design already. I probably will only have one sketch this time unless something changes. 🙂

  5. Hi Cathy! I am a pet portrait artist who usually works in watercolor but I would love to try Procreate. Loving all your woodland sketches and how you bring it all to life.

    1. Emma,

I think you might enjoy Procreate. It’s a wonderful digital tool. I consider myself a novice in art sketching so I believe anyone who’s more skilled than me will find Procreate useful and fun. Best of luck to you and thank you for visiting. Now, I’m off to see you! 😉

  6. I, too, like the fourth sketch best–the one done with pad and pencil. That’s what I mostly use, though doing the Scribble Picnic has motivated me to try paints now and again.

    1. Joek,

I beginning to think a little about getting involved with painting but I’m not quite to that point. Sketching is still new to me. 🙂 Thanks for stopping in for a peek!

  7. WOW…you were a busy girl! Love the bridge and the swirly water in the first one. They all came out so well. Nice work!

    1. Serena,

Yep, I got busy with this challenge and I enjoyed every moment of it. I did most of these while waiting for DH one day at doctor appointments. I usually stay behind in the car and there’s nothing to do but it’s an excellent time slot for sketching so I always tote my drawing stuff with me on days like that to keep me preoccupied. 🙂

  8. Way ta go girlfriend! I know you have published a book, and now you’re an artist. So many talents… is there anything you don’t do??? My goodness girlfriend! Plus I know you have a heart as big as all outdoors, so the outdoors pictures you drew must be your heart!!! Lovely! Hugs and have a wonderful weekend! Going into hospital tomorrow for my shot. I’ll let you know what’s up after. It’s a same day thing so I’ll be home. HUGS

    1. Marie,

It’s great seeing and thanks for your lovely comment. Oh yay, I’m glad you’re getting your shot tomorrow. I hope that fixes you up good! 🙂 Sending hugs and saying prayers for you, my friend!

  9. I’m not hibernating either, but I do slow down a bit in the winter. Right now I’m running around like a chicken with my head cut off. It’s all good.

Love all your sketches. You’re most talented.

Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday, Cathy. Love you. ♥

    1. Sandee,

Cold weather tends to slow me down a bit, too. I don’t feel nearly as motivated to get certain things done. Thanks for your kind remark on my sketches and my ability. I sure do appreciate the boost! 😉

  10. Nicely done. I have an IPad Mini and I have sketched a few things on it, but I am no master of the controls. I still like to pull out the paper and markers or pencils to doodle and sketch.

    1. Driller,

I haven’t purrfect the use of the iPad and Apple pencil but I’m learning. It’s certainly different. I enjoyed pulling out my sketch pad and pencils again. I’ve missed it. 🙂

    1. Jacqui,

The iPad artwork is amazing. I’m really pleased with how good the designs turn out. Can you imagine the kind of illustrations someone with ‘real’ talent can produce? 😀

  11. I like the fourth sketch the most, there’s really nothing like drawing by hand but it’s also good to create digitally too.

    have a lovely day.

    1. Lissa,

I enjoyed getting back to pencil and pad again but using Procreate has taught me much. I think I will continue to use the combination of both art outlets to guide my learning and naturally, I use gifted artists such as yourself for inspiration. Thanks for visiting today. 🙂

  12. Hi Cathy 🙂 Lovely sketches!!! I’m such a fan of pad and pencil, great job on all counts. I am curious about the Procreate program…I’m going to check it out, though I’m very old school when it comes to my art, it might be fun to see how it works!

    1. Rain,

I love pencil and pad, too. Procreate gives the unskilled artist in me a chance to do my sketches over and over again until I get it right. In 2017, I committed myself to get artsy. I wanted for years to draw again but family life preoccupied my time and then self-doubt moved in, so with the new year, I began thinking about the April A to Z Challenge. That’s when I decided to make my theme Art Sketching Through the Alphabet old school and I discovered I had a bit of drawing ability. At times, I feel inadequate compared to those who have drawn all their lives but I find there’s no shame in trying to craft my skill from others who inspire. It’s all a learning process. I believe you will enjoy the iPad app for what it is but it can never replace that hands-on feel of pencil and paper. 🙂

      1. Hi Cathy 🙂 I just downloaded a program called Krita. I don’t have Apple products but I read reviews that it’s pretty good, not quite as good as Procreate. I’m going to fool around with it this winter and see if I like it! 🙂

    1. Mimi,

Yep, real life comes first. I wouldn’t expect it to be any different for others in Cyberville. It’s so wonderful to have such understanding friends in Blogosphere such as you. I’m glad you enjoyed my illustrations. Have a blessed day, dear friend!

  13. Hi Cathy, If you haven’t already gone off to hibernate under one of your trees (haha fat chance do I hear you say?!) Here’s wishing you the best festive countdown ever!
    Wren x

    1. LWW,

Nope, I haven’t settled into any kind of hibernation yet. That sounds like a good idea, though. I can’t believe the countdown is almost on. Thanksgiving is next week and then well…you know what that means…CHRISTMAS, the most wonderful time of the year!!! 🙂
