Flashback to 1973 #RMF

Posted on October 24, 2019

This is the second annual Roctober Mewsic Festival hosted by Mary from Jingle Jangle Jungle and I’m happy to join along with her in the fun.

This month, I’m revisiting some of the classic 70s mewsicians and songs that either I didn’t catch the artist/band name or just forgot that I loved in my teen year. I hope you’ll stick around to enjoy some lost gems from the past.

My birthday falls in December so in the first part of 1973 I was in grade 6 and September of that year I entered 7th grade. Let’s take a trip. Just say no to drugs coz all we need is the sound of sweet mewsic for this trip as we flashback to 1973. 😉

The playlist includes these songs in track order: You Make Me Feel Brand New (The Stylistics), Smokin’ In The Boys Room (Brownsville Station), Queen of Hearts (Gregg Allman), Angie, (Rolling Stones), & Heartbeat, It’s A Love Beat (The DeFranco Family).

What songs from 1973 come to mind?

Later in the morning, I’ll be sharing with the Thursday Art Date with Rain community in her jack-o-lantern theme this week and I hope you’ll come back a peek at my artwork.

X💋X 💋, Cathy

I am a bit younger than you, but 1973 had some really great tunes that I do remember listening to. Another great setlist for today! Thanks, Cathy!

      Mary,

The 70s had some excellent mewsic but the early years seem to have the best in my opinion.

’73 was the year I turned 17 and these were some of my favorite songs back then. In particular “Smokin’ In The Boy’s Room.”

      John,

‘Smokin’ In The Boys Room’ seems to be a favorite of many in this playset. It certainly makes me smile every time I hear it.

      Robin,

We’re close in age. I turned 12 in 1973 but what’s one year at this point in life? lol

      Eugenia,

I remember these songs and they are all excellent, excellent ones! The 70s was a great time for mewsic. Crocodile Rock takes me back my roller skating days. I didn’t get to go a lot but when I did it was a lot of fun! 🙂

      Birgit,

Good for you for never smoking! That’s such a nasty, hard habit to break. I did for a short time in my youth and I wish I could say that I never smoked. Thankfully, that’s been many years ago.

      Janet,

Who’s counting? There’s only a handful of years that separate us but you know it doesn’t make any difference. Have you noticed how little you can really tell about someone’s age when we reach this point in our lives? Thanks for stopping by!

These songs are all familiar and Angie is a favourite. Thanks for the memories! I was 18 in 1973 and embarked on an adventure that is still going strong, 46 years later. Wedding day on August 4. 🙂

The years go by fast, don’t they? I’m so happy that you and your husband have had a great adventure for 46 years. May you all share many more!

    Hi, Cathy!

I was age 23 and 24 in 1973 and well remember most of your mewsical offerings.

F.Y.I. video #3 – “Queen Of Hearts” – is “not available.” I listened to it on YouTube and enjoyed Gregg’s Laid Back sound, a very pretty song. It was new to my ears. The Stylistics were from nearby Philadelphia. I was tuned in to their polished style of soul. Groups like The Stylistics, Chi-lites The O’Jays and Blue Magic dressed in matching suits and sang a sweet, harmony based soul, a style that nearly became obsolete a few years later with the rise of tough, streetwise rap. “Smokin’ In The Boys Room” by Brownsville Station seems tame compared to the hit cover recorded by that wild bunch of heavy metal rockers known as Mötley Crüe. I haven’t thought about The DeFranco Family in many years. They remind us that family bands were especially popular from the late 60s through the 70s, other examples being The Partridge Family, The Cowsills, The Bee Gees, The Osmonds and The Sylvers.

I enjoyed flashing back to 1973, dear friend Cathy. Thanks for the mewisc and memories!

      Tom,

Thanks for visiting this morning. I’m working on my second cup of coffee while I respond to comments and do return visits. I’ve had my hands full this week getting back into the blogging groove. I fixed the ‘Queen of Hearts’ video by replacing it with one that works. I appreciate you bringing that to my attention since it’s been a long time that I created the playlist. The DeFranco Family ‘Heartbeat, It’s a Love Beat’ for some reason I thought it was a Patridge Family song and funny the young lead singer looks a bit like Donnie Osmond. Boy, is my brain scrambled on this one! Now, I’m gonna have to go listen to more of TDF’s mewsic on YT. 🙂

Bible verse of the day

He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

4M Guidelines: Below are the 4M co-hostess. The rules are simple. Every other week, a suggested (not mandatory) theme is given to build your song picks. We're looking for embedded music to enjoy, one song or several. On the off weeks, we dance to whatever music moves you (your choice)! It's just that easy. Have fun and welcome to the party!
