Eye Appeal – Day 27 G2KM Blog Challenge

Posted on February 23, 2011

Do you remember when you started wearing eye shadow?  I do, I was 13.  The popular color for young girls in the early 70s was light sparkly blue or green.  In recent years, these sorts of colors have been totally retro.  It’s been long since I’ve worn these shades.

My favorite shadows for the past several years have been Autumn Leaves by Loreal. These colors come in a quad.  You have the both of best worlds – matte and shimmery.  I like this because I can go from day time eye shadow to evening with a few quick swipes of my applicator.  This is so cool!

On the rare occasions when my DH and I have time together, we venture around town doing many fun things and not returning home until late. This doesn’t stop us from dining out at a nice restaurant. I take a change or two of clothing and my make-up bag just for these times.  In a flash, I can go from casual day wear to flashy, sexy evening apparel.  If people only knew how I transformed in the back seat of our car, right?

Shh, lets keep this secret between you and me.

I remember when I was young, my grandma use to call me Jezebel. That annoyed me, but now I laugh about it.

My daddy would fuss when I wore it, but I don’t think he ever washed my face or made me wash it. I believe all dads hate make-up on their little girls.

I like the new selection of colors better. I like when make up colors are close to natural and enhance a woman’s natural beauty.

My father hated make up and would wash my face in the bathroom sink when he caught me trying it.

@Amanda…some guys are well intending with their comments, but to hurt a tender hearted young girl. Oh you poor dear! Some girls have a beautiful natural glow and make up really does cover that up. I wish I didn’t have to wear it, but honestly, my eyes get so lost because I need my lashes plumped up. They are so small.

@Donnie…well, a hottie may be stretching it just a bit. Just as long as my DH thinks I am then that’s all that matters to me. =D

I remember the first day I wore eyeshadow like it was yesterday. I was 13, and my parents finally agreed. The day I wore it was at a competition so I was certain the older guys on my team (who I looked up to) would see I was a young woman, and not a kid. Yeah, right! One of the college guys on our team threw away all of my makeup. I got a lecture all how I looked horrible in makeup. I cried. That’s when another one of the guys explained that he was fine with the makeup. It covered up my natural beauty, so no need to keep other males from looking at me. The tears quickly dried, and I smiled instead.

It was still traumatic enough I didn’t wear makeup again until my wedding. And I’ve only worn makeup once since my wedding, when my mother insisted it would make me look better. I still think the boys were right. I look better without makeup.
