“Eternal Flame” Sing-off #BoTB Results

Hello Kittens & Dawgs! Thanks for stopping by to see if your BoTB pick got named the winner. Last week, I presented the “Eternal Flame” Sing-off between three different artists, all very different from the original recording by The Bangels. Sometimes I know who’ll get my vote while I’m putting the post together and other times I’m torn but either way I give each artist another listen before sharing the results. Oratory was too heavy metal, The Embrace was too punk rock, and Monarchy was too slow.  It’s safe to say, I won’t buy any of these covers but of the three, Monarchy seemed to suit my ear the best, getting my vote. I guess there’s a slight possibility I’d buy it.   The outcome of the battle went like this!

Oratory -2 (Mary & Tom)
The Embrace – 2 (John & Eugenia)
Monarchy – 8 (Lee, Sandee, Birgit, Stephen, Ellen, Pamela, Mike, & Me)

  1. I did not vote in this round… I did go listen, and then listened to Oratory, because the thought of a metal band from Portugal, fascinated me… Ana Lara has a nice voice, but she is a little off key. Hey, it happens.

  2. Hi, Cathy!

I dialed 1-8000-442-2400 a dozen times and keep getting a recording saying “you have reached a number that is no longer in service. Please hang up and dial again.” 🙂 I enjoyed the music video by the English synthpop duo Monarchy. Having worked in advertising, I was intrigued by the vid and googled for more info. I learned that “the sophisticated visuals explore the delicate interplay between voyeurism and exhibitionism in media and advertising.”

Thanks for reporting the results of your latest BOTB. It’s a funny thing about Oratory, the band that got my vote. You didn’t care for them because they were “too heavy metal.” As a lover of metal, I voted for them because they were just heavy enough, although I wished they delivered an even heavier sound punch.

I hope you have pulled through your illness by now and are back to feeling 100%. Have a great day, dear friend Cathy!

    1. Tom,

Thanks for stopping in so early this morning. I’m having my first cup of coffee while I respond to comments and do return visits this a.m. Oratory is the cover band I stumbled on that inspired this battle round so that sorta surprised me that I didn’t go with them but putting my ear to each side by side then my opinion changed. I think I often listen to the mindset is this something I’d buy or enjoy hearing more than once. I’m listening again to Oratory and it’s easy to see why it inspired me to use it. The female lead adds a great contrast to the rough male backup vocals. I’m going back to YouTube as I type to sample more of their mewsic. The first song I clicked on Fight for the Light, I think it’s a cover, I enjoyed. Someone uploaded their entire album Beyond Earth if you care to hear it. It’s spinning in the background right now. Oh well…let me dash. I’m playing catch up this morning. Have a good day, my friend!

    1. Lee,

Monarchy was slow to get out of the gate but then when they did it was like they shot to the front like a rocket. Did you notice I already have the 2018 A to Z Challenge button on my site? Thanks for joining me this morning. I’ll see ya soon!
