DWTS Season 13 & Chats On A Farmhouse Porch

Monday night, Season 13 of Dancing with the Stars premiered. Unfortunately, we missed it. We did tune in for the results.

The twelve stars are:

  • Carson Kressley
  • Chaz Chasity Bono
  • Chynna Phillips
  • David Arquette
  • Elisabetta Canalis
  • Hope Solo
  • J.R. Martinez
  • Kristin Cavallari
  • Nancy Grace
  • Ricki Lake
  • Rob Kardashian
  • Ron Artest

This year’s cast doesn’t excite me, to say the least.  At a glance, I like Chynna.  She moves gracefully and shows promise of blooming into a lovely dancer. Watch her first performance, here.  J.R.’s likable nature and service to this country in the Iraq war made him an immediate contender for the Mirror Ball Room trophy, in my opinion. Here, he is performing with his professional dance partner.  Overall, I felt J.R.’s dance routine was very beautiful and the best between these two picks. As the show progresses, I may change my opinion of who’s my favorite star. The season has just begun!

It’s time for me to visit with Patrice @

Today, we’re chatting about….

Patrice: Do you have pierced ears?
Cathy:  Yes, I do. I got my ears pierced for the first time when I was 12 or 13. My aunt did it.  This was in the day, when using a sewing needle and ice did the job.  Painful? Absolutely! My piercings closed somewhere along the line in the 90s for reasons unknown to me. I never sought to get them re-pierced until my daughters wanted to have their ears done. We bought an ear-piercing kit from Sally’s Beauty Supply and with my husband’s help, all three of us gals got our ears pierced the same day.  The little ear piercing gun only pinched a little compared to my earlier experience. Phew, what a relief!

Patrice: Do you have a porch?
Cathy:  We do have a porch, but it’s not nearly as inviting looking as yours.  It’s barely big enough to do anything on. It’s more or less for cosmetic appearance to help our Ranch style home to not look so plain.  One day, I hope to have a big wrap around porch with rockers and porch swing.

Patrice: If you could have a wish for someone you know, what would that be?
Cathy:  At the moment, I would wish for my married daughter to have a happy life.  New beginnings can show some ugly truths and survival will depend on how one deals with the unpleasant aspects of a relationship. My wish for her is she’ll remember the things we’ve taught her and for her to remember she can always turn to God for answers.

Patrice: There are less than 100 days to Christmas. Have you started shopping yet or doing anything to prepare?
Cathy:  I’m one of those crazy shoppers who look for bargains all year-long.  I do have a few gifts yet to get. The hardest person to buy for is my husband. I haven’t even begun to really think about what I’m going to get him until now.  I guess I best put on my thinking cap before it’s too late.

Patrice: What song is going through your head lately? If you aren’t being pestered by a particular song, then what are you likely to sing or hum while you work?
Cathy: Usually first thing in the mornings, songs are the last thing to filter through my sleepy brain.  I’m on my second cup of coffee and the fog hasn’t lifted yet.  No doubt, my son will pop in some of his tunes and that’s what I’ll be singing off-key to while I do my work.

Thanks for visiting. Wanna make me happy? Then, leave a message to let me know you stopped by.  I’m faithful always in returning the gesture!

  1. I remember the sewing machine needle and the ice!I think two of my sets were done that way. Two sets were done by my doctor when I was a teen. How I talked him into that, I’ll never know. My daughters had the little gun pierce theirs at a local beauty salon. It was really pricey. I had no idea you could get the kit.

I wish well for your daughter. Even the best relationships take lots of work.

I get stumped with what to get my hubby too. I usually assume that he will be the most understanding if I run out of money. He tends to be one of those that likes something and gets it, so I have to “beat him to the punch”and get it first.

  2. Oh, you’re so organised! I doubt if I’ll be this far ahead on Dec 21st!

I do love the American ‘porch’… it’s just gorgeous. It would never work, of course, in our weather, but it really is dreamy 🙂

I was a hairdresser in a past life and we used to pierce ears. I still have the gun at home, and I’ve done most of my nieces and my own daughters. The gun is great – no pain at all 🙂
But I do with I’d stopped at 1 in each!

  3. Great answers this week and I like your format of answering the questions I might need to try that. My questions look so haphazard.
I like your wish for you daughter. I think I could echo that for all six of mine.
Thanks for stopping by already, I enjoy your comments.

  4. Wish I was almost done with shopping! Yes, my son is in the military – Air Force. They are currently stationed in England. Thanks for commenting.

  5. I’m so jealous of your Christmas shopping! I never start early even though I say I’m going to. It would be so much easier!

Oh, and I’ll be singing off key right along with you!
