Dreaming ’bout taking a train trip someday

Posted on October 13, 2019

Welcome to Monday’s Mewsic Moves Me on Sunday!

This month we have a new-comer as this month’s honorary co-hostess spotlight, Robin from Songbird’s Crazy World.

This week’s theme is In honor of Columbus Day, songs about taking a journey.  It can be an actual trip, or a trip into the imagination, or even an emotional journey.

I’m glad I didn’t live in the days of ole Chris cause I’d Just have to let My Imagination (The Temptations) run away with me to figure how to cross the ocean blue. You see, I have phobias. Who knew, right? Well, you did if you’ve been visiting CAAC long enough.  You won’t find me Leaving on a Jet Plane (John Denver) cause I’m the one who’ll Rock the boat (The Hues Corporation) on such travel plans. Life is a Highway (Tom Cochran) meant for Cruisin’ (Smokey Robinson) Somewhere in my Car (Keith Urban). However, I have a romantically Sweet Dreams (Air Supply) to travel by Slow Train (Joe Bonamassa) someday spurring Pure Imagination (Jackie Evancho) to create a playlist of song titles/lyrics about TRAINS, just click the YT video below and enjoy!

Dreaming ’bout taking a Train playlist tracks:

  1. All Aboard ~ Muddy Waters
  2. Chattanooga Choo Choo ~Ray Charles
  3. Night Train ~Steve Winwood
  4. Long Train Runnin’ ~The Doobie Brothers
  5. Last Train To Clarksville ~The Monkees
  6. Midnight Train to Memphis ~Chris Stapleton
  7. Rock n’ Roll Train ~AC/DC
  8. Southbound Trian ~Nash & Crosby
  9. Midnight Train to Georgia ~Gladys Night & The Pips
  10. Midnight in Montgomery ~Alan Jackson
  11. Runaway Train ~Joe Cocker
  12. Stop This Train ~John Mayer

Please read…this is a mewsic linky party, which means all participates are sharing songs that one can listen to from YouTube or Vimeo and a not a post about mewsic or mewsicians.  Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.

It’s now time to join the 4M dance party!

ATTENTION!!! Would you like to be an honorary co-host? If so, shoot me an email or leave me a comment saying ‘YES, sign me up!’ and I’ll secure the next available month for you then send you the details. 😉

All month, I’m playing along with Mary from Jingle Jangle Jungle in her 2nd annual Rocktober Music Fest and I invite you to play along. It’s never too late to enjoy some classic rock n’ roll. Some of my 4M songs definitely fall in line with my general daily mewsic trend. 😉

Change in plans…At the time I began my posts for this month, I had no idea that DH would need to use some of his vacation time or risk losing it. That being said,  I’ll be away from Blogosphere for the most part until bright an early Tuesday morning, Oct. 22. I’ll do my best to boogie with you but if I slip off the dance floor for too long then know I will eventually make by to see you, so save a dance for me. 😉

Travel back in time tomorrow with another edition of classic rock mewsic on Rocktober Mewsic Festival and remember to keep those tunes playing, your body swaying, and I’ll boogie over to your place soon!

X💋X💋, Cathy

I half expected you to include “City of New Orleans,” and I’m kinda glad you didn’t. (It’s a great song, and I had it in my list, as I’m sure several other people have.) Nice move opening with Muddy Waters… I think that’s Little Walter on both harmonicas (if you listen with headphones, he’s playing a chromatic in the left channel and a diatonic in the right). Or maybe it’s Carey Bell…. anyway, great songs there!

I love the way you wove these train song titles together for your theme, Cathy! 🙂 Train travel is such a lovely, relaxing way to go! When I lived in Europe, we took quite a few trips that way. Terrific playlist! Here’s one that came to mind:

I enjoy train travel. I’ve taken the Auto Train from Virginia to Florida (and/or back) several times since 2006 – it’s too bad that so much of the trip is in the dark. My favorite train song wasn’t here (City of New Orleans) but Joe Cocker and Runaway Train was my favorite of the set, and you had some old favorites of mine here. Have a great vacay!

Great train songs selection, Cathy, and I didn’t realize there were so many of them. When I think of train songs I think of Folsom Prison Blues by Johnny Cash – https://youtu.be/bDktBZzQIiU

The train was a wonderful way to travel. My dad worked for a railroad and I got to ride on trains my whole childhood. I even got to ride in the cab of the engine one day. I can remember getting on a train in Tulsa, OK one evening and had my own private room in the sleeping car. The porter came through the car and turned down the bed for me, then I crawled into the sack and red comic books for a while. We arrived in St. Louis early the next morning. It was the best trip ever! Great set of tunes here this morning. You just can’t go wrong with Muddy Waters, but it’s hard to decide whether you want to board the midnight train to Georgia or Memphis. Once I hear “All Aboard!”, I don’t care if they ever stop this train. Have a blessed week.

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy 4M Monday on Sunday, dear friend! I hope you and DH are having fun gallivanting around, and I hope you are taking pictures of autumn leaves.

I totally agree with you about forms of travel. A trip by train is my favorite. I have only taken one such ride my whole life, but it was great fun. The choo-choo I rode, the Strasburg Rail Road in Lancaster Country, PA, wound through Pennsylvania Dutch Country enabling passengers to view Amish farms, barns and buggies. It was like taking a trip back in time. Mrs. Shady and I have also been pondering a train ride across Canada someday.

On the Muddy Waters song and most recordings about train travel, the arrangement simulates the sound of a locomotive steaming down the tracks. I’m sure you remember Little Eva singing about the latest dance “The Loco-Motion,” which was performed with “a chug-a chug-a motion like a railroad train.” This is the first time I ever heard Steve Winwood’s “Night Train,” a completely different song from the one I remember from my youth, the song made famous by James Brown. Once again on that record, Brown’s band, The Famous Flames, laid down a musical track that replicates the sound of a locomotive as it takes you on a nocturnal ride to cities all across the U.S.A. “Long Train Runnin’,” “Last Train To Clarksville” and “Midnight Train to Georgia” are all big hits from my younger years. I might also add “Crazy Train” by Ozzy Osbourne to your list, along with “Hellbound Train” by the English blues rock band Savoy Brown. On a more positive note, there was “Friendship Train” recorded by at least two Motown acts – Gladys Knight And The Pips and The Temptations, and “Love Train” waxed by The O’Jays and The Supremes.

Have a wonderful week, dear friend Cathy!

4M Guidelines: Below are the 4M co-hostess. The rules are simple. Every other week, a suggested (not mandatory) theme is given to build your song picks. We're looking for embedded music to enjoy, one song or several. On the off weeks, we dance to whatever music moves you (your choice)! It's just that easy. Have fun and welcome to the party!
