Douglas Lake Vintage View & Other Photo-art Creations

Good morning, kittens and dawgs. Les from Ink Interrupted (click on link ot see what I’m talking about) inspired me with her recent photo-art creations in today’s Not-So-Wordless Wednesday share that I entitled, Douglas Lake Vintage View.

Douglas Lake Vintage View

From a church parking lot overlooking Douglas Lake, I snapped this shot of the gazebo. I added the fog effect to my photo in Pixelmator giving my image a dreamy sense and then I used a free vintage postcard background as an overlay. I like the way it turned out, don’t you?

Added Bokeh background as a new layer with a pin light effect. The pin light versus only an overlay gave me what I was looking for in the bokeh design.
Here I applied the vintage clouds background as an overlay.
This is my original image with no special effects, only my copyright.

You can always tell when summer arrives even before its officially here with blog traffic slowing down. I know some folks pop in to read the contents only while others let ya know they stopped by with a comment, but what gets my attention mostly is blog hop participation. The numbers are visibly not there. No worries, though. It is what is. Summer should be enjoyed to its fullest. I’ll keep doing what I’m doing. Those who can will and those who can not won’t, but they know they’re always welcome anytime.

What have you been photographing lately ~ scenic views, children, pets, or random stuff? I’d love to see it. I invite you to link your WW post below.

I’m toying with the idea of taking a blog break. I will either suspend posting while I’m away or combine all hops into one weekly post. I haven’t decided yet. I’m a bit conflicted about what to do, but I do know I need to temporarily step away to refresh my mind. Come back for another peek through my lens with my Skywatch Friday feature and get in on the Friday social media action. Have a fototastic day!

  1. I don’t like that second one. It looks more like a mistake to me. But that’s just my taste. I love the other effects.

    1. Alissa, thanks for popping over to look at my #WW contributions. I love photographing foggy landscapes! Sometimes when we visit the Smoky’s or the Blue Ridge Parkway the fog will roll in masking the view, but it’s so beautiful!

  2. Oh my goodness – I love what you did here!!! It just take an incredible great shot to a whole other level. I really like that fog effect. I may have to try that for some marsh shots I have from when I was hunting our local Missy the Moose to grab a shot. It’s fun taking something you actually shot, and then experimenting how you can change the whole dynamic of that shot: BUT, ultimately knowing that YOU are the artist.

Thanks for the shout out. 🙂

    1. Les, *blush* You’re so kind. I’m humbled by your sweet words. Oh, yes the fog effect would be an awesome add for marsh shots! It would be doubly awesome, if you can capture Missy in your shots. I would love to see a moose in the wild (from a safe distance inside my car). Thanks for stopping by!

  3. Hi, Cathy!

You certainly are a wizard with your FX kit. I like the overlays and the resulting image of the gazebo that you created. Mrs. Shady took a “beauty shot” of her New England seafood boil the other evening before we sat down to dinner. Mrs. S. is an excellent cook and learned the art of food presentation from her father who owned a restaurant in the Baltimore area when she was young. That’s the only picture she or I have taken in recent memory.

I will miss you if you take a blog break, but I understand your need to clear your head every once in a while. Enjoy the rest of your week, dear friend Cathy!

    1. Tom, I enjoyed playing with this image in Pixelmator. It’s amazing how many free resources there are on the net to use in my photo-art creations. That’s cool Mrs. Shady learned or inherited her cooking skills from her pop’s. Well, I hope y’all take lots of photos when you go on vacation and then share with me. I love pictures! Oh yeah, here’s a place you might want to check out, if it fits in with your vacation planning. The D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Virginia. We went up yesterday and it’s a fabulous, fabulous tribute to those who lost their lives on the beaches of Normandy. I took LOTS of pictures. Hopefully, I will have them sorted to share next week with everyone. Meanwhile, I’m buried deep in cleaning up posts Google flagged. I got the more critical ones fixed and all that’s left aren’t harmful errors (mostly 404 page not found) and I need to remove non-working links from these posts. What a headache! Oh well, it is what it is. Thanks for stopping in. I will try to swing by to say “Hi!” later today. 😀
