Dining is what you make of it

Today’s theme is DINING.  I’m certain my interpretation isn’t what you might first think of but dining is what you make of it. You can dine in a low-lit romantic restaurant or seated by a cozy fireplace (fake ones work, too) in your home or a sweet picnic with your sweetie.

I love picnicking in the mountains but not necessarily on the ground like I sketched. That’s idealistic but reality is another thing. We’ve done it and it’s not nearly as pleasant as it is to dream about.

One of my favorite places to have a picnic is at WaterRock Knob on the Blue Ridge Parkway about 45-60 minutes north of Cherokee, North Carolina.  In 2016, I captured this beautiful sunset with a silhouette couple in the foreground enjoying the spectacular evening sky.

This month has gotten off to a rough start. It’s my fault since I got sidetrack working on my A to Z Challenge artwork and nearly didn’t get this piece finished in time. Hopefully, I can get back on schedule and if not, I’ll do what I can. I’m sure you understand. There’s no need to sweat it. When blogging or art becomes work then the passion gets spoiled and we don’t want that, do we? 😉

Thanks for stopping in with your coffee for a peek at my masterpiece and …oh yeah for not spilling it on my artwork. 😉

It’s a super pleasure to share my newest illustration with you this morning. 😘  Follow me to Rain’s Garden to browse through the gallery of artistry!

I’ll be back tomorrow with an edition of Friday Fun Stuff chockful of giggles, fill-ins, & more! Come join the fun!

  1. Your so right about creativity there should be no guilt when the time just isn’t available to blog or share it,
Super picnic scene, brings back memories of childhood outings with all the family. I’d much rather be sat on a seat or table to eat now… my knees are not as good as they used to be!!

  2. Hi Cathy 🙂 I love your romantic picnic piece!! But…you are right, it looks nicer than it is on the ground lol…we can’t picnic around here because of the bugs. If it’s not the creepy crawlies, it’s the mosquitoes and black flies! But, we often “picnic” on our screened in porch!! 🙂 That works! By the way I followed the link to the sunset photo and it didn’t show up! All I can see are comments to the post, but no photo!

  3. That came out great. Good to know you are doing the A-Z, I look forward to your posts. XO

  4. A beautiful picture with a romantic picnic on it !!!!It must be wonderful in the mountains and the video I can imagine is great!
I hope you will finish your work !!!
    Greetings Elke

  5. So how did you know I was sipping on coffee as I perused your post? I am guessing that you too are having a “cup a” and that is why you projected it on us. So right you are 🙂 I agree with you that some picnics are not as much fun as they are in our minds before we get there. At my age if there isn’t a picnic table, I am in deep trouble. Sitting on the ground is very uncomfortable and then getting up again becomes tricky. And finally, your wonderful music and video of the trees … well just let me say, my favorite place in the world is our wonderful Arboretum and I go there with my friend for a few moments of peace in my currently stressful and hectic life. There is no place like the lap of nature to find peace. Thank you for this journey …

    1. Andrea,

I’m able to get to the ground if need be but I really don’t like sitting on it. lol Unfortunately age makes these things even harder on the body. Going to the Arboretum sounds like a lovely way to enjoy nature. Do you know I have never been to an Arboretum? That being said, I just learned the University of Tennessee has one in a nearby town, so this gives us something new to check out. Thanks for visiting.

  6. Lovely sketch, Cathy! Picnics are fun, but we haven’t been on one in a long time. Sitting on the ground is definitely out thanks to our bad knees. 😛 Most picnic areas have tables, thank goodness. Happy Thursday!

    1. Debbie,

When the weather doesn’t permit for outdoor eating, one thing you might consider is grabbing a picnic lunch/dinner and finding a nice spot to enjoy the meal in your car. During the cooler months when we’re out on our day trips we find having a quiet picnic in the car to be a nice touch to our day. This might be a good opportunity for you to soak up some of sunshine on pretty days which will give you an extra mood booster to fit off the winter blues. 🙂

  7. I love a good picnic too. It’s been a long time. Mostly we do that with boats now. Set up a table and eat on a dock somewhere while watching the boats and birds. Such fun.

I love your sketch. You’re most talented.

Have a fabulous day, my friend. Love and hugs. ♥

  8. I’m listening to the lovely music while writing, just beautiful. Your picnic piece is FABULOUS! I love eating outside but preferably with chairs these days – not so romantic but better for oldies! I often grab a coffee and a snack and sit on one of the benches by the Rhine in good weather. Thanks for sharing your beautiful art and music! Hugs, Valerie

    1. Valerie,

I don’t think being old is the problem with eating on the ground in most cases, although it is harder on the body as we age, but the biggest problem is the ground is not comfortable period! Your coffee breaks by the Rhine sounds nice. That would be nice to do on pretty days for sure. Thanks for visiting, my darlin’ friend!

    1. Robin,

Picnic tables are better than the ground but I prefer to sit in our car with a great view. We do that a lot when we go to the mountains or even out to the lake. The car seats are not only comfy but we don’t have to worry with the extra steps to safe guard from dirt and germs. I’m a little paranoid about these things and from the way things sound in the mews I have good reason for concern. 🙂
