Daybreak photos, ‘D’ alpha-prompt #ABCWednesday, & Dog #artwork

Last week I was able to double up my blog hop participation by using the same entry and guess what? I am able to do that again. Don’t grow depended on this because it’s a bit of a daunting to find the right subject that defines dual hops but when it works it works great!

The ABC Wednesday letter is ‘D’ for Daybreak in East Tennessee and with it being WW,  my depiction captured last September. If you look close enough,  you’ll see I captured a crescent moon just above the darkened trees.

This brings back a distant memory of another daybreak moment taken from Clingmans Dome in the Smoky’s in late summer to early fall that I shared in October 2011.  It was a chilly morning.  DH (the guy below profile wearing glasses) is carrying DD#1 in an infant carrier. You can’t even see my darling baby but she was quite snugly warm against her daddy who’s peeping down on her.

Silhoutte of DH and Brittany @ 3mos of age. You can’t even see her in the picture because she’s snugly inside an infant front carry pouch. It made me think of a backpack with openings for the head, legs, and arms. 🙂

Michael MacVean hosts this art challenge by offering artists regardless of your level with a prompt every other week to inspire your creativity.  This is the off-week, so I’m going it along. I went back to revisit a previous art prompt that was given a few months back, here except I doodled my new art sketch old-school style.

I did a little photo-editing to my sketch using Pixelmator.  I cropped the image, adjusted the brightness, and applied a snow filter to enhance the wintry scene. What do you think?

Last week’s ‘My Town’ art prompt, I sketched the UT Vols Mascot, Smokey.  He resembled a beagle more than a hound so I gave it another try in the first image and then in the second I gave him some color using my Prismacolor pencils.

The background seemed plain, so with my Pixelmator photo-editor I adjusted the light to make the background appear brown which makes the whole image a little nicer.

What about that both sketch scenes have dogs which work purrfectly with the ABC Wednesday ‘D’ alpha-prompt. Dang, if I’m not good or what!

My linky party is open to all regardless of what kind of post you have as long as you’re a personal blogger.  ALL commercial websites, advertisers, or other spammy, non-fun links are subjected to immediate termination by the linky hostess!

Have a blessed day and I’ll see ya around Blogosphere! 😉

Thank you! Art and photography are my favorite past times but for the better part of two years, I’ve devoted more time to my sketching. I really love it!

    1. Veronica,

Barry Manilow was a big part of my teen and early 20s. He had quite the hits back in the day. My high school English teacher had a huge crush on the guy. Poor woman didn’t know he wasn’t a heterosexual and didn’t stand a chance with her ‘dream man’. 🙂

    1. Keith,

Thanks! The silhouette was taken with my old Nikon FG-20. I still have that camera but it was replaced long ago with digital equipment. The first sunrise image I used my iPhone 8 to capture. It’s amazing what your phone will do, isn’t it? lol

    1. Tell your mom if she needs help with stick people then she needs to ask DH for how-tos. He draws the best stick family in the world! Seriously, I love it! 😀

  8. Hi, Cathy!

Happy Almost Wordless ABC Wednesday & Scribble Picnic Day, dear friend!

Your Daybreak in East Tennessee picture is beautiful. Cathy. No living artist could apply paint to canvas and capture the range of colors blended together in that early morning sky, the tiny, faint crescent moon and the treetops in silhouette adding the finishing touch. I remember your drawing of the woman walking her dog Precious. I liked it the first time and I love it this time now that you have further winterized the sketch with a snow filer. The scene went from cold to colder and now they are truly in a winter wonderland. I can feel the chill as the wind blows the girl’s scarf horizontally. Precious has her doggie coat on and, like most, dogs, seems to love taking a walk outdoors in that kind of weather. I also admire how you improved the sketch of the UT Vols Mascot, Smokey, step by step. I agree that the deeper brown background makes the hound pop, and adding color was a great idea and brought him to life.

The 1977 Barry Manilow song “Daybreak” is new to my ears. I like its theme “Daybreak all over the world” and the inspiring lyrics which include:

Singin’ to the world, what’s the point in puttin’ it down?
There’s so much love to share
I’m singin’ to the world, don’t you see it all comes around?
    The feeling’s everywhere
We’ve been closin’ our eyes, day after day
Covered in clouds, losin’ our way
    Hey, but it’s daybreak
If you want to believe, it can be daybreak
    Ain’t no time to grieve
Said it’s daybreak, if you’ll only believe
And let it shine, shine, shine
    All around the world

Enjoy the rest of your week, dear friend Cathy!

    1. Tom,

I would love to be able to paint a beautiful sunrise/set! I’ve seen some works of art that are almost as good as seeing it with your own eyes. That’s interesting that this oldie of Manilow’s is new to your ears but I imagine that’s because he’s probably someone you didn’t listen to much. Is that right? I know you like mewsic with more vibes than the mellow sound. Thanks for your kind comments on my art. You’re such a nice friend. 🙂

      1. You are correct, dear friend. Barry M is not my favorite artist because he is too mellow and his crooning appeals mainly to women. I do appreciate your artwork and look forward to seeing all the ways you express yourself with various media. 🙂

        1. Tom,

I knew that I knew you. lol We all have different mewsic preferences and that’s kind of cool because I get exposure to stuff that I normally wouldn’t listen to without a bit of nudging. 🙂

  9. Hi Cathy; I love your sunrise photos and did see the tiny spec of moon in the first one. The mascot definitely looks more like a hound with the long ears, now. 🙂 Walking dogs in this horrible weather is a real challenge and we are keeping it short, these days. The second sketch does look a little brighter. I can’t seem to find anywhere to link up!

    1. Debbie,

I found a ‘how to’ guide to go by to sketch this hound pup which made a big difference. He still isn’t spot on but I’ve improved the houndish appearance of this one. I can only imagine how awful it is to walk a dog in bad weather, especially for you northerners. The reason you can’t find the linky is that silly me forgot to add it. smack forehead. Thanks for calling it to my attention. It’s now there and I added you to it. 😉
