Day 23: S.a.D Bring A Torch, Jeanette, Isabella

Christmas greetings!  For the month of December, I plan to share a Christmas song each day with the hope of adding a little extra cheer to your holiday.  Part of my challenge in this series is to bring to you a new-to-me song or artist discoveries.  There’s no telling what song pick I’ll go with but you’ll find artists from all genres celebrating in song this almost magical, holy season.

As I explored holiday tunes, I found in 8 Forgotten but Important Christmas Carols You Need to Remember today’s song, Bring A Torch, Jeanette, Isabella. The title alone doesn’t say ‘Christmas’ to me but it does sound like an old one and it is.  Bring A Torch, Jeanette, Isabella was first published in France in the 17th century.  The lyrics’ setting is the Nativity and two farmhands finding the Christ child with his mother in a stable.  Excitement over their discovery they ran to the village with the good news proclamation. Visitors who came were asked keep their voices quiet so the baby could enjoy his dreams.

“Softly now unto the stable,
Softly for a moment come!
Look and see how charming is Jesus.
Look at Him there, His cheeks are rosy!
Hush! Hush! See how the Child is sleeping;
Hush! Hush! See how He smiles in dreams!”

The above article pointed me to a vocalist’s cover of this traditional carol.  However, while on YouTube, I found a Mannheim Steamroller version.  The instrumental rendition seemed too perfect for the moment to not share with you.

You may enjoy hearing this lyrical version of the song.  The Celtic overtures makes for a beautiful Christmas lullaby!

Don’t even worry with leaving a comment. This is for your enjoyment.  There’s no worries or fuss or strings attached. Simply a moment for you to unwind and refresh your mind and body. 😉

I’ll be here with bells on tomorrow morning with another Christmas song waiting to start your day and please don’t let the hustle of the holiday weigh you down.  The holiday festivities are beautiful and fun but the true reason warms the heart better than these earthly things. Take time to bask in God’s great love.   It’s the most wonderful time of the year! X💋X💋, Cathy

  1. A most beautiful video. It’s perfect.

    Have a fabulous day and rest of the week, Cathy. Merry Christmas my friend. Love and hugs. ♥

  2. Hi, Cathy!

    Happy Thankful Thursday and S. a. D. Day #23, dear friend!

    Yessum, your cold air has made it down here to Florida and it feels great.

    Turning to your mewsical offering of the day, the song is new to me. Centuries old, it is a genuine “oldie but goody.” I am, however, familiar with the neoclassical, new-age, progressive rock ensemble Mannheim Steamroller, known for their modern interpretations of Christmas songs. “Bring A Torch” has a beautiful melody and message, and I thank you for posting it this morning.

    Enjoy your Thursday, dear friend Cathy, and I’ll see you tamale!
