Dalmation

It’s hard to believe it’s been almost 8 years since I picked up a pencil and sketch pad launching my love doodling.  In April 2017, I joined the A2Z challenge that not only challenged me to blog every day for a month but to produce new drawings.  For the letter “D”, I drew three pictures of dogs.

Today, I’m sharing my new Procreate illustration of one of the original pooches.

If you hoped took a look at my original drawing, I will point out that I used Procreate to create a new colorized Labrador illustration in 2023 and the third pup I brought it back for the 2022 A2Z Challenge but looking at that one now I see improvement is needed.  Perhaps, I’ll find time to redo that drawing. That’s one thing I like about digital drawing, I can refresh my sketches repeatedly without the whole world crashing around me.

Scrolling through my re-imagined art, I found another sketch do-over from 2022 A2Z Challenge of two sisters that I used for the letter “G”. The two sisters are loosely based on my once young daughters.  I wasn’t quite happy with the final project. Looking back, I believe I let getting too hurried get in the way. I see some improvement in this one over the other but it still needs a bit of tweaking.

It’s about learning, training my eye, brain, and hand to work together to render what I see in my head.  I wonder if I had stuck with my passion and nurturing my skills if I be a better artist today? I have to think yes, so if you’re doing anything you love no matter your age just keep doing it.  Live in the moment, enjoying every second of it.  When we’re younger, we often push aside things because of other responsibilities. Going to college, working, raising a family, …. were my priorities.  Through my youngest daughter’s interest, a small burning kindle within stirred a desire to have the kind of time that she had to absorb myself in drawing again….and, it happened.

I’m going to share one final sketch.  The original sketch was done for my youngest daughter’s ex-husband birthday in 2015 so when I brought it over to Procreate last year I changed it a bit.

Thanks for visiting. Y’all have a doodletastic day!
