Couch Potato, The Voice, & Tuesday 4 Q&A

Holy guacamole, it’s the last week in January! I predict it’s gonna be another head turning, calendar pages flying off the wall kind of year just like every year before.   We’re both guilty of being a bit of a couch potato especially on the weekends.  We normally do not watch broadcast TV due to scheduling conflicts with our bedtime and over the holidays we got sidelined keeping up with The Voice.

Last Thursday night we  finished the season.  Carter Rubin, the grandson of one of Jay and the Americans’ band members, won the prestigious singing competition. The 15-year old is talented but his voice hasn’t seasoned enough to suit my ear.  In short,  his voice hasn’t begun to change yet or much.  Perhaps, he needs some rough activity to induce those hormones to work the right way.  I’m eager to hear how he sounds in 5 to 10 years.  Listen to Carter’s music collage from The Voice.

The Voice has turned more into a popularity contest instead of a talent show.  One of our favorite contenders was the Oprah singer, Ryan Gallagher, who got kicked off the show for “supposedly breaking the Covid-19 protocol”.  However, Ryan says that’s not the reason and details are forth coming.  I have suspicions why but I will wait to see what comes of this before I say.   Here’s Ryan’s recording of Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect” cover he would’ve performed had he not been booted off.

While snooping around on YouTube, I decided to subscribe to follow Ryan’s YT channel to stay in the loop of this young artist’s career.  I think he’ll do great things.  Please listen to Ryan’s album, When I Fall

Binge watching does occupy a lot of our weekend nights but we don’t have to worry yet about the vultures.  We do get up for snack and bathroom breaks. *roll eyes*

No exs here but this one made me laugh with the wife putting her new cough potato on notice.

Today, I’m joining Tuesday 4.

1. What makes you rejoice the most?  Aside my family I’d say enjoying creative passions such as sketching and cooking are my favorite hobbies that fill me with great joy currently.

2. What song makes you feel joyful or happy? Two secular songs that always that make me bubbly and get me to my feet are “Happy” (Pharrell Williams) and “I Can’t Stop The Feeling” (Justin Timberlake).  Did you listen to them? Do they make  you feel all happy inside? 🙂  But, generally songs that fill be with real joy are contemporary Christian worship and praise.  One song that comes to mind is Dallas Holm, Rise Again.

3. Do sounds of nature give you a joyous feeling?  Oh sure, I love the happy sound of a creek gurgling in the woods or listening to the wind rustling through the trees or to hear birds singing but just being out in nature fills me with joy even if I couldn’t hear a thing.

4. How about holidays? Do you really rejoice or just kind of show up?  Being blessed is joyous and Thanksgiving allows me special time to give extra thanks to God.  Christmas I celebrate the anniversary of Jesus’ birth, the love and hope given to the world which is continually felt even this day.  God giving me this great gift is the reason I not only rejoice all December long but  the other 11 months as well.   Easter gives me similar feelings as Christmas. If it weren’t for Jesus’ selflessness to die for me I wouldn’t know this this joy that lives within.  As for other holidays, many are fun but none can compare to the ones  I mentioned.

It’s time to grab a cup of coffee and follow along with me as I head off to visit some of my favorites today,  Comedy-Plus (Sandee), Stacy Uncorked, and Eugi’s Causerie.  I’m going to end things with a popular song by Carter Rubin’s grandpa’s band, Jay & The Americans is best known for, “Come A Little Bit Closer”.  I hope to see you tomorrow Wild Wednesdays, the party where just about anything goes! 😉  X💋X💋, Cathy

  1. French Fries! Hahahaha! I hadn’t heard the song “Come a little bit closer” in… I don’t know how long! Sure brought back some memories! Hope you’re having a great week

  2. I like your song choices though I had not heard the Christian one. I remember that song by Jay and the Americans. I think I was in Jr, High when I heard it.

    1. Susan,

I didn’t know Jay and the Americans by name but I recognized the song as soon as DH showed it with me after seeing Carter’s blind audition. The song released the year before I was born but it’s popularity carried through the years.

  3. We do a lot of binge watching too. Nice to learn more about you through the questions. XO

    1. Lori,

We don’t watch The Voice or any broadcast programs live usually so voting is out for us. Carter is talented with a great future ahead of him. I hope he doesn’t let someone screw him up.

  4. Those were great funnies! That young man has quite the voice. We don’t watch that program as we can stand the chairs filled with obnoxiousness and egos.

    1. Brian,

I think everyone has an ego to a degree. Some of The Voice judges are more obnoxious than others but over all I still think it’s fun to watch especially when they jokingly harass one another. Blake is especially funny. 🙂

    1. Ann,

Nothing wrong with binge watching on your day off or anytime. We all need an escape from the harshness of reality sometimes or just simply downtime.

  5. Carter has amazing vocal chops and stage presence for his age. Yes, it will be interesting to see how his talent progresses, over time. I too was disappointed that Ryan got cut from the show. He has a beautiful, pure voice! ♥ Looking forward to learning the whole story. If this lock down goes on much longer, the vultures are sure to appear. LOL Love the french fries cartoon! Thanks for the laughs. 😂 Communing with nature is a wonderful stress reliever.

    1. Debbie,

I’m interested in reading what Ryan has to say on this matter but I’m sure once it does come to light that it won’t get near the attention. I hope I can remember to search for this in a few months.

  6. I don’t watch the singing shows either. Long story, but so glad you enjoy them. Hey whatever we can do to stay sane right? I do like your funnies though. Have a great day.

    1. Nicole,

I like to see the talent but as I’ve said these sorts of shows have spun into a contest of popularity generally and that’s frustrating. I still manage to enjoy the program even though I know the outcome isn’t going to be based completely on the person’s talent.

  7. I don’t watch the voice or any of these singing shows. I feel like they begin to all sound the same. I love the sillies and I am now looking to see if I see vultures around me. I always find joy in nature and wish to be in nature more. Christmas is the big holiday for me and I love everything about it.

    1. Birgit,

Singing competitions and even AGT has turned into popularity contests. Sometimes I think people vote for the contestant with the biggest sob story or the cutest guy or whatever but they certainly aren’t voting for the most ‘talented’ person usually. That really bugs me a lot, too.

  8. I like Carter better than Ryan. What do I know. He’s going to be a huge star. Huge.

Love all the funnies and I spewed my water over the French Fries.

Love your Q&A. You’re an amazing person, my friend.

Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday, Cathy. Love and hugs.

    1. Colletta,

“Rise Again” is an old praise song from the early 80s. The words are beautifully uplifting to remind me that Jesus will come again one day for His children.
