Christmas Tree #cubism effect

Cubism is a bit abstract to me. I’m definitely no Picasso where this art form goes. In fact, I find this type of artistic creation challenging so instead of stressing over the art prompt, I decided to keep it simple.   My inspiration comes from painting a Christmas tree design on LA’s little turtleneck except I thought why not sketch a basic design for today’s prompt. Speaking of LA’s Christmas design, I’m just about done and I hope to share a picture with you very soon, maybe of my little angel wearing it.

This might be more in line with an elementary school child’s design but it exercised my brain. I find I spend more time on illustrations that I’m not comfortable doing and can’t seem to pull myself away because I try to fix ever flaw that I see. I finally just have to say, “Enough, already!” So, here’s my attempt at cubism. 😉

Buy Me a Coffee at ko-fi.com

Last week, I illustrated Ebenezer Scrooge for the Big Screen prompt but didn’t link up because I was on staycation with DH.  I’ll be off for staycation again next week but hopefully I’ll find time between now and then to share some art.

Thanks for stopping in with your morning coffee for a peek at my latest illustration and …oh yeah, thanks for not spilling it on my artwork. 😉 I’m heading over to Rain’s Garden to browse through the gallery of artistry and you’re welcome to follow along!

I’ll be back tomorrow with an edition of Friday Fun Stuff chockful of giggles, fill-ins, & more! Come join the fun! X💋X💋, Cathy

  1. You say you struggled with this prompt, yet you created a perfectly beautiful Christmas Cube:) So I love that you take Staycations with your family. I am with my family all of the time because, since my FH became ill and couldn’t do the things that husbands usually do, we have lived with my son, his wife, my step granddaughter and my daughter … so they are all here and as I am retired, I get to spend time with them all of the time. So, my art is my “staycation” from them, Ha! I guess it is good that it can be whatever we want it to be, right? So I wish you a wonderful Holiday and look forward to seeing your little LA with
her Christmas turtleneck. Stay safe and be well …

  2. Hi Cathy! 🙂 Oh I love that Vince Guiraldi soundtrack so much, I listen to it over and over every December!! 🙂 I think your cubism effort is great!!! It wasn’t an easy theme that’s for sure. I’m off to check out your Big Screen!!! PS: If you missed the art date widget one week, you can add it to the next week if you want, that way we can all enjoy it! 🙂

    1. Rain,

Thanks, I might do that when I miss an art date. 😉 Vince Guiraldi mewsic is light-hearted entertainment that transports me to my childhood. 🙂

  3. lol, made me smile. I was thinking x-mas tree for a start. But then other things happened 🙂
Not sure what staycation is but like the simplicity f the tree.
    Take care 🙂

  4. Great job! And here’s my attempt at poor humor – good thing you didnt have to draw tiny little castro’s in each block! See you around the blogosphere!

  5. I also can’t draw, so seeing this wonderful Cubist tree made me smile. I really like it, too. It’s so clever and I wish I could replicate it for my Christmas cards I haven’t yet made. Lovely art, dear.

  6. I love it, Cathy. I can’t draw anything so I’m always in awe of those that can.

Have a fabulous day, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥

  7. Ohhh Cathy you did a marvelous job on this. Cubism is foreign to me as well, but at least you put in the effort. I kind of copped out on this one. I could see this as a christmas card. Enjoy your day.
