Today’s WW contribution features this 36-mile stretch of beautiful scenic highway from Robbinsville, North Carolina to Tellico Plains, Tennessee crossing two national forests: Cherokee and Nantahala thus giving it is name Chero-hala .
The gorgeous views and cool summer breeze appeals to all who visit, but doubles as something extra for motorcyclist and sports car enthusiasts – a thrilling drive along a very long, steep, switching roadway.
Thank you for joining Angela from Mommy Time Out and myself for another edition of Wayback Wednesdays.
The 60s popular folk rock duo Simon & Garfunkel, like many artists, wrote the music to this work-in-progress before lyrical inspiration struck for the piece. On February 19, 1964 Paul Simon recalls how the lyrics merged: “The main thing about playing the guitar, though, was that I was able to sit by myself and play and dream. And I was always happy doing that. I used to go off in the bathroom, because the bathroom had tiles, so it was a slight echo chamber. I’d turn on the faucet so that water would run (I like that sound, it’s very soothing to me) and I’d play. In the dark. ‘Hello darkness, my old friend / I’ve come to talk with you again’.”
This song propelled Simon & Garfunkel and on New Year’s Day 1966, it reached #1 on the charts breaking, The Sound of Silence.
