Cathy’s Pinup Girl #AtoZChallenge art sketch series (‘J’)

It’s Saturday! What do you have planned? I see those eyes rolling dying of boredom being at home for the past three weeks. Tough it it out cupcake, it could be worse! This is an excellent time to catch up on your favorite TV series or watch movies, play board games (yeah, what’s that?), spring clean, DIY projects, bake, cook, or whatever. The possibilities are endless! Look the roses not the thorns. 😉 Save

What’s wrong with rabbit ears, we still have ours? lol Streaming TV series and movies is the way to go in my opinion. We’ll be doing some binge watching this weekend. 😉

It’s Saturday and for those who don’t know me then I don’t do weekends in Blogosphere. Well…with our current ‘stay at home’ mode you might find me popping in and out until the COVID-19 outbreak passes.  Let’s pray that the restrictions are soon lifted. Of course, provided the threat is gone.  Safety first!

While I may or may not be here, you can count on finding my newest A to Z Challenge post to go live generally around 6am each day. I’m getting to the point that my scheduled posts are about to run out and I need to get going on the last few letters in the alphabet.  It’ll all work out. No worries. I’m relaxed. I can do this. Whew, that little pep talk helped. Now moving… today’s illustration is inspired by WWII pinup girl, Jane Russell.

My original pencil illustration doesn’t really look like Jane Russell, but I tried. The only thing I can say is her general pose is like the one in the photograph. I’ll keep at it,maybe one day I’ll come closer to draw a more accurate likeness.

Russell sang, “One For My Baby” in the 1952 film noir, Macao. Give a listen and let the sound of yesterday transport you to a different time.

[tweetthis]I just visited Cathy’s Pinup Girl #AtoZChallenge #art sketch series, and I think you should, too! [/tweetthis]

Thanks for stopping by today.  Before you go, let me point out, all previous A2Z posts are listed in my side menu this month, so you won’t miss a thing.  Don’t forget to leave your footprints (direct URL) in comments so I can find my way back to you easily. I hope you’ll come back again tomorrow for an edition of Songsational Sundays, if you’re in Blogosphere bring your coffee over to my place to enjoy the mewsic and inspiration.

X💋X💋, Cathy

  1. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Jane Russell movie. I probably have, but just don’t remember. There other day on TCM they had a retrospective of a number of films she was in, but I didn’t bother to watch any of them. Frankly, I wasn’t that interested and they were all rated kind of low anyway.

  2. Cathy, I shall send you an e-mail as soon as I get it fixed. I can get email, but that’s it. This Comcast is driving me nuts. It’s $136 a month for aggravation can you believe that. We also has an answering machine. We didn’t have it for 3 months & didn’t know it and we were paying for it. I want to be reimbursed and I’m fighting with them. grrrrrrrr I can tell you this… they are testing some pollops for Cancer & my heart almost stopped. So now I’m a nervous wreck for a week. aughhhhhh HAPPY EASTER dear friend. I will talk to you soon Pray for my husband please. PLEASE & PRAY I don’t lose it before then. Thank you for being there for me. Love the colored picture better this time… love the video you found too. I haven’t seen her in a long time. I found the 10 Commandments on You Tube the one with Charlton Heston… my favorite movie & I watch it every year for Easter. I think it’ll do me good to see it. Luv you my gal-friend. Thank you for being you!!! HUGS

  3. Love that you chose Jane Russell, Ms. Playtex. The face is not quite there as she has more of a square jaw but she has a tough face to draw so I hand it to you. You did a great job on her figure and love the song choice. I have a gift my mom gave me one Christmas hanging in my office. It’s a piece of slate drawn with roses and the saying is “Don’t grumble that roses have thorns, be thankful that thorns have roses.” Have a great Easter!

  4. Jane Russell was an interesting person. She was a good Christian woman when Howard Hughes found her, and as crazy as he went trying to turn her into a sex symbol, she never lost sight of who she was. Beautiful inside and out. Another one like her was Dyan Cannon. That’s a good picture of the “wannabe.”

  5. That’s a spacey bunny, huh,…MOL…Great pin-up drawing again, CK, she does look like Jane Russel😸Clean Pawkisses for a Happy Easter Weekend. Stay Safe Healthy and Yourselfie🙏🐾😽💞

  6. Hey Cathy! Great post….gotta make lemonade when we are handed lemons! Love your Jane Russell and her video! Cheers and keep on making art! Stay well!

  7. Hi, Cathy!

Happy Saturday and “J” Day to you, dear friend!

Thanks for reminding us that we can choose to stop complaining and make lemonade while in quarantine. I read somewhere that a baby boom is predicted nine months from now. 🙂 If you’re looking for a great one season miniseries to watch, Mrs. Shady and I highly recommend Dirty John starring the wonderful Connie Britton. Juno Temple, the English actress who plays one of the daughters on the show, is the real life daughter of famed music video director Julien Temple, who directed iconic MTV and Vh1 videos that include The Stray Cats’ “Rock This Town” and “Stray Cat Strut,” ABC’s “Poison Arrow,” Culture Club’s “Do You Really Want To Hurt Me,” Dexys Midnight Runners’ hit “Come On Eileen,” The Kinks’ “Come Dancing,” The Rolling Stones’ “Undercover Of The Night” and many others.

Turning to your pinup of the day, I think you did a marvelous job on your Jane Russell wannabe. I like her swimsuit and pose and she does indeed look like the glamorous, voluptuous brunette actress who rose to fame in the mid 20th century. I remember studying Jane Russell’s first movie in a college film course. Released in 1943, the Howard Hughes film The Outlaw was controversial because scenes throughout drew attention to Jane’s breasts. The censorship board demanded that Hughes edit the film and as a result half a minute of footage was cut from the feature before it went to theaters. Even in its edited form, the motion picture sparked protests among individuals and groups that called it indecent.

Have a safe, happy and healthy weekend, dear friend Cathy!
