Calling Out Your Name CATHY Can We Dance?

Posted on July 31, 2017

Thank you for including me in your Monday, kittens & dawgs! Our big giveaway ENDS today! Have you entered yet? If not, what are you waiting for? Do it now!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

This week’s mewsic theme is “Songs Starting With the 1st Letter of Your Name”.

Calling Out Your Name (Down In A Hole album) Kiefer Sutherland.

Actor-turned-singer Kiefer Sutherland says this track from his début album is about a highly publicized failed romance from his youth. He tells Rolling Stone: “There’s a moment in everyone’s life when they go from a girl to a woman or a boy to a man, and that transition, at least from my experience, is illustrated through heartbreak.”

He doesn’t name the girl, but Sutherland did have a high-profile engagement to Julia Roberts after the pair met on the set of Flatliners in 1990.

Cathy (Down on a Deptford Broadway album) Skinny Lister

The second single from Down on Deptford Broadway is a slice of sing-a-long punk ‘n’ roll. Singer and guitarist Dan Heptinstall explained: “‘Cathy’ is an ode to addiction and recklessness. A declaration of desire for someone or something that you know is bad for you, and you’d be wise to steer well clear of. The classic wrestle between head and heart.”

Can We Dance (Meet the Vamps album) The Vamps

This pop British band debuted their song in September 2013 and the following month’s sells with 13K more than their competitor looked like The Vamps would peak number 1 on the UK Singles Chart but in the end One Republic (Counting Stars – another “C” song) nudged them out of the spot and recorded as the closest chart battle in 2013 with only 1,150 sells separating the two songs.

Quick, what “C” song titles come to mind?

I invite you to hit the dance floor with XmasDolly, Stacy, Colette , and little ole me. 😉

Linky Tools subscription expired. List not available.

This is Curious as a Cathy signing off with more “C” Song Titles.

Stay tune for a special announcement this week of our blogiversary winners!

Have a songtastic day.

I didn’t even know Keifer sang! Wow. And sometimes it’s hard to link the loves, but it could be thus.
    Thanks for rocking.

      Colette,

Kiefer surprised me to learn that he not only sings but does his own songwriting which impressed me a lot. Oh yeah, I wouldn’t know anything about the “lost loves” the artists were singing since I’m not really into the Entertainment gossips scene. Heck, I don’t know who’s seeing who or who’s married to who half of the time.

You picked some good ones. I can think of a few songs simply called “California” that I like quite a bit–I’m starting to like those songs better than the actual state.

      Lee,

I’d like to visit California someday but I don’t think I’d like to live there. Is there a particular song that you’re thinking of? There are quite a few songs with California in the title. Thanks for the song suggestion and visit!

One in particular that has been a favorite since the early 70’s is by a little known duo named Compton and Batteau–they had a great album that included the song “California”. Here’s a link to the song:

          Lee,

I can’t say that I’ve heard of Compton and Batteau but I like their vocals. They definitely are the type of group I’d enjoy listening to. I will have to check out more of their music. Thanks for coming back by to share this vid with me.

Keifer Sutherland? Wow! I’m learning a lot from this Birthday theme. The Cathy song is so catchy, I’m pounding my foot as I type! As for my favorite C song – does the Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire) count?

Yes, Chestnuts Roasting on An Open Fire definitely counts. In fact, it works purrfectly considering December is my birth month. 🙂

So I never really pay attention to names of things. Is that weird? Ask me my favorite artists. I can’t tell you their names, or even the names of many of their works, but I can describe their works in detail. Names just don’t stick. Lame, right?

Birgit, I remember Kiefer and Julia being in Flatliners but I didn’t know they were an item. I think Julia Roberts is a good actress but I feel she’s a bit over-rated where looks go. Call me bananas, but I didn’t even think of “Chiquitita” by ABBA. Good choice!

Hey Girl, I’m over here having a Celebration over your post! This is some really great stuff!! LOVE Celebration! It reminds me of the final night and closing ceremony of the Sales and Management Retreat put on by the radio station conglomerate that I worked for in DC. This was the last song of the night — and most of us were feeling mighty fine after imbibing a little bubbly… 🙂
The other songs were new to me. Wow, the Vamps are mighty young!
Oh geez, I kinda wanted to throw up watching those people eat those jellied eels. OMG that was nasty!!! I can definitely listen to the song again but I just can’t watch that. That may have scarred me for life… 🙂 YUCK!!!
Something surprising to me was Keiffer Sutherland. I had no idea he had a song out. Or maybe it’s a full album? That took me by surprise. I bet your right: I’m sure he was probably talking about Julia Roberts. I had forgotten that they had a ‘thang’…

Super fun post, Miss C girl! Great C playlist too…
    Have an awesome week Cathy!

Michele, Memories and mewsic go hand-in-hand, don’t they? Sometimes I recall certain things but usually it’s just a feeling surrounding the song. I guess either I can’t remember what happened or it just wasn’t important enough to stay with me. 🙂 I usually don’t watch the mewsic vids because often times there is something about it I don’t like. Which video were they eating jellied eels? Yeah, this song is featured on Keifer’s debut album Down In A Hole which you can listen to the whole thing on YouTube, HERE, if you’re interested. Thanks for sharing the dance floor with me!

Marie, Thanks for popping over for a little boogie time with me. Unless Arvixe finishes the nameservers propagation process for my site then I’m not going to be able to do post today announcing the winners. This is so frustrating because I made the necessary changes more than 10-days ago and then this happened still. It sorta ruffles my feathers a bit but whenever technology is involved then I know something is bound to go wrong. Oh well, that’s life for ya. Have a good week, my friend.

    Hi, Cathy!

Thanks for poking me by email to let me know your site is up and running. I learned something new right off the bat because I was not aware that Kiefer Sutherland, one of the my favorite actors, also has a career as a singer-songwriter. I first got to know Keifer in The Lost Boys, saw him with Julia Roberts in Flatliners and watched his series 24. Kiefer has a great voice and I very much enjoyed listening to “Calling Out Your Name” a song from his 2016 debut album Down in a Hole. I love the production, the intimacy of Keifer’s earthy vocals. His voice gets right inside your ear and your mind, doesn’t it? I notice that Down in a Hole is a country album that also falls into the category of “Americana.” I checked the precise meaning of Americana music and found the following useful description: “contemporary music that incorporates elements of various American roots music styles, including country, roots-rock, folk, bluegrass, R&B and blues, resulting in a distinctive roots-oriented sound that lives in a world apart from the pure forms of the genres upon which it may draw. While acoustic instruments are often present and vital, Americana also often uses a full electric band.”

I also enjoyed the refreshingly different “Cathy” song and video performed in a sing-a-long punk ‘n’ roll style by the British indie folk band Skinny Lister. (I am happily addicted to Curious As a Cathy and to our friendship.)

I also thoroughly enjoyed the Brit pop boy band The Vamps with their catchy song “Can We Dance.” In fact, the song is so familiar to me that I think I might have it on one of my various artists dance-pop CDs. I will need to check. “Celebration” by Kool & The Gang is a great “C” selection, a song that I will be presenting in my Shady Train series at some point.

The very first song that popped into my head when you asked what “C” song titles came to mind was “Come Dancing,” a 1982 song by The Kinks. The video for the song was played often by the mewsic TV station where I worked at the time.

I will have a songtastic day thanks to you, dear friend Cathy. Thank you very much!

      Tom,

Thank you for being the first to share the dance floor with me today. I was surprised to find how talented Kiefer Sutherland is with his “earthy” vocals as you put it. I actually like his mewsic style. It’s humbling and reminds me a lot of his Jack Bauer character from 24. Do you recall how polite he was? It seemed he was always saying “I’m sorry” to someone. 🙂 Hopefully CAAC isn’t bad for you but an addiction nonetheless. 🙂 We do have a good friendship, don’t we? 😀 I’m not sure if I know “Come Dancing” by The Kinks. I’m heading over to YouTube right now to check it out….Oh yeah, yeah I do know that song. Definitely it is a good one to set your toes tapping or to do a little chair boogie! I don’t know if this will work from this side or not (I can’t access my “Admin side” at the moment with my server doing its thingy) but here’s the vid…
