By the fire on Thursday Art Date

Rain’s theme, “By the Fire” happens to work well with my Christmas greeting design for DH (Darling Husband).  I found myself a bit rushed last month, I can’t imagine why, and I found myself scrolling through my pin-up sketches for inspiration.  You probably recognize the pin-up girl from a previous share that’s been modified.  Working with the original sketch, I placed her in a cosy Christmas environment beside a lovely roaring fire. That’s where many of us would like to be, I know I would.  The final sketch I gave DH looked more like this.  It wasn’t until I uploaded it to my computer that I realized the fireplace needed something more and so I used the brush options in Pixelmator Pro photo-editor to add some finishing touches. Now, doesn’t that look inviting?

I love the idea of a wood burning fireplace but I don’t like having to keep wood on hand nor having to bring it indoors on cold days.  I think in our next house, we’d like to get a fireplace with a gas log to offer the same cosy feeling without the extra work.

This week’s I’m thankful DD#1 and LA are doing okay after their accident last week.  The damage to the casual eye seem minimal but I haven’t heard what the mechanic has to say on about it, though. It doesn’t take much to drive the repair cost up on a vehicle. The good news is DD#1’s car is driveable.  I’m thankful last week’s second winter storm wasn’t a big producer of snow but it was frigid cold a few nights.  I’m thankful for the three days of sunny skies.  That was so nice!  I’m thankful the weekend begins for us this evening with tomorrow being DH’s off Friday.

Please kindly say a prayer for a sweet gal I met years ago on the penpalling circuit who I’m FB friends with.  Her mother and step-dad passed away last week due to Covid.  My heart is so heavy for her. 🥲

I’m heading over to Rain’s Garden to browse the gallery of artistry.  I’m gonna play hooky tomorrow since it’s DH off-Friday but you’ll find my mid-month BOTB on Saturday. This is CAAC signing off withLight My Fire” by the Doors!

  1. I’m sorry for your friend’s loss Cathy, that’s just so sad, she’s in my prayers. ♥ And thank goodness your DD #1 is okay! Car crashes are so scary. I hate driving in winter, I’m always worried about the ice…and also about how others are driving. I LOVE your pinup! She looks so sexy in her Santa gear!! ☺ I do love wood fires, and I don’t even mind splitting wood! I love the aroma of it and the warmth!! ☺

  2. Your sketches are lovely, Cathy, and I love the music!! Thanks for the shout out it’s always appreciated! They are predicting snow in our area this coming Sunday! 😬

  3. I love your drawing. I like the idea of a fireplace, but dislike the smell of smoke so we have an electric one. XO

  4. That’s a really nice sketch, so pretty. Sorry to hear about the accident and your friends Mom and Step Dad, very sad. I always liked The Doors back in the day, it’s sad that Jim Morrison ended his life way too soon.

  5. Who doesn’t love The Doors!? I love a wood burning fireplace. when my parents added on to the home we had a fireplace and a wood-burning stove. i was the one designated to bring in the wood. My mom had wood boxes for both areas so we didn’t have to bring it in as often. it was wondrous. I love your drawing which would make Santa happy when he comes down the chimney.

  6. I love your pin-up girls. My father had a calendar with pin-up girls when I was a kid. So beautiful.

I love your sketches. You’re so talented.

    Love that video.

Have a fabulous Thankful Thursday, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥

  7. Hi, Cathy!

Happy Thankful Thursday Art Date with Rain, dear friend!

I love that holiday scene with the pin-up girl seated on the floor next to the Christmas tree with a cheery blaze in the fireplace. She seems to be beckoning us to join her. She wouldn’t need to twist my arm! I admire the bold primary colors used in the portrait. I have an Elvgren Giclee art print that is very similar. I am also familiar with the brunette beauty used for your TT billboard.

Thanks for the update on DD1 and LA and their vehicle. I know from experience that even a fender bender can cost hundreds of dollars to fix, often a thousand or more. At least your daughter’s car can still be driven in case she needs to wait a while to have the repair work done. I hope LA has gone back to her happy, carefree existence without lingering painful memories of this traumatic event in her young life.

Yessum, I will say a prayer for your FB friend who has lost two loved ones to COVID.

Yessum, I am looking forward to your mid-month band battle on Saturday. “Light My Fire,” that major breakthrough hit by The Doors, represented a turning point at the Shady Dell. From the time that record showed up in the dance hall jukebox, rock mewsic started catching on with the teenage crowd and gaining a foothold, threatening to surpass in popularity the sweet soul mewsic and old school doo-wop that had been the Dell’s bread and butter for decades.

Thank you for the exciting artwork and morning mewsic, dear friend Cathy. Enjoy your day and your home alone time with DH tamale!
