Brooklyn Blackout Cake with a side of giggles

What’s shakin’ on your end? Not you, you say.  I’ve been shakin’ and bakin’! This morning I’m pulling over time to catch up with all my bloggy buds, so that has me shakin’. Actually I’m currently groovin’ to some tunes spinning on the ole virtual turntable in the background. Yep, I’m boogieing sometimes quite literally in my chair but technically listening a 4M partners’ song picks.  Check out yesterday’s post if you want to boogie, too.

I couldn’t resist sharing the retro commercial for Shake and Bake. On the bakin’ front, I tried a new recipe per DH’s request.  This boy loves to look at recipes. When he finds something that catches his eye then he’s quick to share it with me.  That’s the case with the Brooklyn Blackout Cake I made for Valentine’s Day. He mentioned it’s been something he’s wanted to try for years but forgot about it until recently when something brought it to mind, so he messaged the recipe link to me. My first attempt wasn’t bad! The cake reminds me of PF Chang’s Great Wall of Chocolate without the chocolate chips on the outside.

Another thing I had bakin’ in the oven is Stromboli.  My good friend of many years gave me her recipe but when I went to look for it, I couldn’t find. I concluded it was one of those files that got lost when our old Dell crashed several years ago. I looked at a handful of Google suggestions and decided to try this recipe. Also from recipe site, I borrowed the gal’s Fail-Proof Pizza Dough recipe and I made home-made pizza sauce going by but didn’t follow precisely because I didn’t have the spices. Next time I make pizza sauce then I’ll be sure to get the suggested spices. My recipe was okay but it had too much of something that DH wasn’t crazy about, so hopefully I can narrow that down on my next attempt.

Like last week,  I’m pulling funnies from my file reserve to give you a dose of giggles and smiles.

I wonder how long this guy lived after wearing this shirt? lol
I’ve been there done that and agree it doesn’t work. 😀
That’s a good one!
That’s the look I get after drinking three cups of coffee.

That’s it for now. I’m playing catch up after an extra long weekend, so excuse me while I grab another cup of coffee and head off to tackle all things bloggy.

Today I shall attempt to visit Sandee for some Happy Tuesdays giggles at Comedy-Plus, check out Random Tuesday Thoughts with Stacy Uncorked, and finish things up with Eugi’s Causerie for some inspiration with her weekly word prompt.  You know just in case my inner poet side wants to escape.

By the way,  on Saturday I kicked off  my mid-month Battle of the Band and I hope you have time to vote in this showdown before the ballot box closes on Friday.  I’ll be back with Wild Wednesdays, the blog promoter linky party where just about anything goes. I hope to see you tomorrow! 😉

    1. Paul,

One of my good bloggy friends comes from a juggling family and at one point lived not far from me. Nope, never met him or his family but I think it’s really cool. Thanks for dropping by!

  1. I do remember Shake ‘n Bake. Haven’t had it in years, though. Does your husband not cook? If he likes reading recipes, he might try baking himself 😉

    1. Liz,

Generally DH doesn’t cook and that’s fine by me because this is something that I enjoy doing for him and he’s content with that arrangement. lol

  2. These funnies are hilarious and I so can relate to the flamingo. The man with that T-Shirt is now humbly living in some doghouse and the dog has his side of the bed. Shake “N Bake…when my mom found out about this, we had it at least twice if not 3 times per week. She was very busy running the sawmill with my dad so i know she was very busy but if i have to eat another shake ‘N Bake dinner, it will be too soon:). I will try to listen to your BOTB before Friday

    1. Birgit,

Yeah, you’re probably right about that poor ole guy. Stupid move on his part for wearing that shirt. lol The thing my mother made too much of when I was a kid was pinto beans which I really dislike a lot, even swearing that I’d never eat them again, but I love eating pintos and it gives me a certain comfort when I do fix them. Isn’t life funny like that?

    1. John,

Although the Stromboli I made was good, I think I will switch to all pepperoni in my next one. That’s the only thing I remember about my friend’s recipe that she only used the one meat. The juggler joke is a hoot, isn’t it?

  3. Yummy on the cake. Who doesn’t love chocolate.

Love that joke. I’d have to get in the patrol car too because there’s no way I could pass that test either.

Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. Love and hugs. ♥

  4. Lots of great humor this morning.

Funny story. My younger daughter loves blackout cake. One year we got a blackout cake for her birthday. And when she blew out the candles, chocolate crumbs went flying..

  5. Hi, Cathy!

I enjoyed your Tickle Me Tuesday feature, dear friend. It appears somebody’s been tickling that giggly pinup girl. I enjoyed your other funnies, too, especially the flamingo trying the cheat the scale. I’m on my third cup of strong black coffee and my eyes are starting to pop open for the day. You have my mouth watering with those pics of the cake, stromboli and pizza sauce you whipped up in the kitchen. Yummy yummy yummy, I wish I had your food in my tummy. I think DH’s eagerness to share recipe ideas with you is proof that you are indeed a great cook, one of your many talents.

Enjoy the rest of your week, dear friend Cathy!
