Brian Auger’s Oblivion Express

Awww Mondays

Isn’t that gify a rib splitter? It totally cracked me up when I found it! Last week’s snow is all gone. Today, we’re suppose to get more snow, but I don’t think we’ll get any accumulation. The last two days has been really mild. Unfortunately, more cold bitter temperatures are back lasting through the new week. I do see signs of hope in the forecast which shows things much milder the last week of the month.  Oh, I can’t wait for it!

Welcome to Monday’s Music Moves Me on Sundays! This week’s theme is whatever music moves you

Pulling from my archives YT clip saves,  I thought I’d bring to some jazz this morning.  I can’t tell you how I made the discovery of Brian Auger’s Oblivion Express but I’m glad I stumbled on him.  Auger is an English rock n’ roll jazz keyboardist whose worked with these familiar artists Rod Stewart, The Yardbirds, Jimi Hendrix, and a few others.

From the album Straight Ahead (Available on YouTube is the album playlist), here’s the recording that reeled me Bumpin’ on Sunset.

Music themes are only suggestions.  I don’t care one what kind of music it is, as long as you share music. Now, it’s your turn!

This is a music link up.  Your post must contain at least one song or your URL is marked “No Music”.

  1. Congrats on the new addition to the family. Very cool. Also, thanks for hipping me to some new music. I really enjoyed hearing this. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.

  2. Congrats on being a new grandma mama! This music was really chill and I enjoyed the listen. That video cracked me up. The cat has a good wrestling move.

  4. Congrats on the upcoming grandbaby.

I’ve been a Brian Auger fan for over 50 years. That seems kind of weird to realize.

That video clip of the cat taking down and pinning the kid is hilarious!

My very favorite musical instrument is the electric organ, and my favorite organ keyboardist is Brian Auger. So, needless to say, Auger is one of my all-time ALL-TIME favorite musicians ever. I got to see him perform live once in 2009 and met him after the show. He seemed like an extremely nice guy! I shook his hand, which seemed like a bear’s paw!

I featured ‘Bumpin’ On Sunset’ in my Rocktober post of Oct. 24, 2024. You were the only person who commented. You wrote this: “I really like Bumpin’ On Sunset. … Excellent song share!”

My own favorite recording of it is the live version from the album ‘Live Oblivion, vol. 1’. (You can find it at YouTube.) It has a slightly faster pace. Steve Ferrone (who later became the drummer for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers) arrived for the show at the club (The Whisky-A-Go-Go on Sunset Blvd.) a little late. He was amped-up about running late, so when they opened the show with ‘Bumpin’ On Sunset’ (which is indeed a reference to Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood), Ferrone started his drumming at a slightly quicker tempo than normal, and that’s how we got the more “amped-up” rendition.

Say, my friend, there’s still a wee bit o’ time to have an impact on my Battle Of The Bands contest. It’s Bing Crosby & The Rat Pack versus Hank Williams Jr. & his rowdy friends. Please come by with your two cents if’n you get a chance.
