It’s mid-month, so that means time for another Battle of the Bands. For y’all expecting to hit the dance floor with me, you’ll find the linky party at the bottom but while you’re here why not join in the fun by picking your favorite song in this showdown.
Before I get to my new showdown, let me give you a quick recap of my Dec. 1st BoTB. In short, Flavor bet out They Might Be Giants with a 9 to 5 tally. Hey, that could be a name of a song, 9 to 5! 🙂
Normally, I like sharing another tune by the winning artist but being on vacation I’m keeping things low-key in Blogosphere as apparent with my nearly absent presence online.
Yesterday was my birthday. I wanted to use a Christmas song that came out the year I was born, 1961 in this battle and that’s when things got a bit tricky. Normally, I choose two artists covering the same song but the song I wanted to use I couldn’t find a cover. As it turned out I found two Christmas Kisses song titles and two Kisses for Christmas song titles but there are different. The lyrics are different for each song title. Can you believe this kind of luck?
Do I even dare ask…well, it’s really not much (twirl hair around finger) a-a-and since you didn’t get me anything for my birthday, ahem, okay that’s not fair you didn’t know it was my birthday but anywho can you listen to enough of these songs to pick your favorite song title/artist?
Excellent, I knew I could count you!!
Christmas Kisses (1961) Ray Anthony
Christmas Kisses (2018) Serena Ryder
Kisses For Christmas (2012) Thomas Anders
Kisses For Christmas (2018) Andy Powell
Polls close noon (EST) on the Dec. 21st!
Who gets your vote – Ray, Serena, Thomas, or Andy?
There’s no such thing as a wrong vote, except a NO vote. You don’t have to know the song or the artist. If you have an opinion and I know you do, then that’s all you need to tell leave your favorite in comments. It’s easy peasy!
[tweetthis]I just voted in the ‘Round 17 #BoTB Christmas Kisses VS Kisses For Christmas showdown. #songs #Christmas[/tweetthis]
I’ll post the results of this battle a week from today, so mark your calendar! Normally I share the outcome in the following showdown but with it being the holiday season I’m trying to make things a little less complicated.

I liked all four of these, and with all of them I was saying “yeah, that’s the one.” I especially liked the first two, and of those two Serena Ryder’s really stood out. It’s a fun song, she has a lovely voice, and best of all (and it didn’t affect my vote), she did it to get people to support their local animal shelters. So give my vote to Serena.
John,
I’m happy to know that you enjoyed all four selections in this battle. A mewsic video is an excellent way to bring awareness and boost support for one’s favorite cause but honestly everyone loves puppies, right? I mean, you’d have to be a real Grinch to not like man’s best friend. Thanks for voting for Serena Ryder in this round. Have a blessed day, my friend!
Wow, Cathy! You don’t look a day older! Give my vote to Ray Powell!
Eugenia,
You’re way too kind! With good health on my side, I am able to look into the mirror to see past the visible signs of age and see a younger me hiding within. It’s that gal, I allow my mind to feed me lies that I’m still that young. lol We know age is inevitable if the alternative doesn’t happen first, so I count myself blessed to see the fine lines and strands of glitter in my reflection. I will forever be young at heart. Thanks for voting for…okay, I’m a bit confused you said RAY POWELL, do you mean Andy Powell or are you mixing Anthony Ray and Andy Powell together to create a new entry into this showdown? 🙂 I’m going out on a limb by penciling you in for ANDY POWELL and if this is wrong please correct me.
Ray. That old time sound!
Mimi,
Thanks for voting for Ray Anthony!
Happy belated birthday, CATHY! (29 again?)
Ordinarily, I would probably be voting for Ray Anthony. When I saw his name, I thought: OK, done deal. Listening to the rest of these songs will just be a formality.
But… WRONG!! Ray Anthony, yes – but NOT with that singer and that song.
Please give my vote to Serena Ryder. I never even heard of her before, and I’m not sure that I particularly care for her voice and style, but I’m sure the video influenced me this time. All them cute dogs? Yeah, Serena gets the dog (and the DogG’s) vote!

STMcC Presents BATTLE OF THE BANDS
Stephen,
I guess I should’ve suggested folks to close their eyes for this battle. All that cute doggie overload is bound to steal lots of votes. Thanks for playing along and casting your vote for Serena Ryder, my friend. I’m heading over to check out your battle!
Serena gets my vote. Very nice. Like how you found all of these songs.
Patrick,
I’m glad to have you join the battle showdown. Thanks for voting for Serena, my friend!
I do like th first one which is very retro and one I can see in a Christmas movie but I have to go with Serena Ryder and her great voice. Thomas Anders didn’t appeal to me at all nor did the last one so Serena gets my vote
Birgit,
I’m glad you enjoyed Serena Ryder in this BoTB. I’ll stop by to visit you asap, my dear!
Isn’t interesting how many variations of a song exist? Have a great week and a wonderful birthday!
Joyce,
Yep, that’s what I thought, too! 🙂
Serena gets my vote
Mike,
I appreciate you making time to vote for Serena Ryder in my mid-month BoTB, my friend. I’ll stop by to visit you soon. Have a great day!
Happy Birthday Cathy!!! I hope you had a marvelous day!! 🙂
Rain,
Thanks for the birthday wishes, my dear, and yes, I had a marvelous day!
So many choices! First of all… Happy Birthday! Hope that you had a great day. Second.. I think I’m giving my vote to Andy. I’ve got a battle up today as well. Hope to have you stop by with your vote.
Mary,
Thanks for the birthday greetings. 🙂 I spent my special day quietly at home. DH & I snuggled in for the evening to watch Christmas movies and have my favorite Pizza Hut pizza. That’s all I needed to make me happy! I have your vote recorded for ANDY POWELL. Heading your way to now to check out your BoTB!
Happy Birthday! Friday the 13th was our 22nd anniversary–hopefully no bad luck there. My wife went away on that special day to babysit for her daughter, but we took a nice road trip the day before. I’ve been mostly internet absent in the past week, but it’s the Christmas season so that might be expected for a good many of us.
I’ve never heard any of these songs. Nice assortment of musical Christmas candy.
Give my vote to the Ray Anthony song. It was short, sweet, and silly.

Tossing It Out
Lee,
Thanks for the birthday wishes, my friend and congrats on 22 years of marriage! I don’t pay any attention to Friday the 13th or other superstitions. Bad things happen regardless of the date the calendar reveals. This time of the year, it’s hard to not slack off with one’s normal routine and I’m not sure that I want to come back to blogging just yet but I guess I’ll give it my best. I sure do appreciate you stopping in to vote for Ray Anthony & the Bookends. Now, go find that darling wife of yours, place some mistletoe over her head, and give her lots of ‘Christmas Kisses’.
We sort of liked the Andy tune, but we’d never heard of any of them before now.
Brian,
I’m happy to introduce you to all new artists and tunes in this battle showdown. Am I to deduce from your response that you’re giving Andy Powell your vote? For now, that’s how I have your vote. Please correct me if I’m wrong and thanks for voting, dear furriend!
Hi, Cathy!
Happy mid-month BOTB day, dear friend!
Thanks for reporting the final score of your previous contest. I’m happy to know that Team Flavor “licked” the competition. 🙂
Wow, a 4-way mega band battle this time! Ray Anthony and his Orchestra provided some of my earliest childhood mewsical memories with their famous single 1953 single “Bunny Hop” b/w “The Hokey Pokey” along with “Slaughter On Tenth Avenue,” “The Darktown Strutters’ Ball” and others, My parents owned many of Anthony’s records and played them often around the house. In the early 60s, Anthony and his female backing singers The Bookends released singles, EPs and an album. Billed as The Bookends & Ray Anthony, they recorded “Christmas Kisses,” a song released by The Bear Family on Yulesville! (33 Rockin’ Rollin’ Christmas Blasters For The Cool Season), a November 2019 compilation of rare holiday songs of the past.
Canadian artist Serena Ryder stole my heart with her video featuring scenes of dogs and children giving and receiving Christmas smooches but, in all fairness, we should disregard the video to maintain a level playing field. I enjoyed Thomas Anders doing “Kisses For Christmas.”
The last entry in your competition, “Kisses For Christmas,” is a sensational a collaboration involving London based songwriter and musician Andy Powell, Norwegian songwriter and musician Linda Roan (now based in the UK), and English singer Louise Clare Marshall. The song was included on the OST of the Italian film (I’m guessing) Natale a Natale 2 and is also available on the album Here’s To Christmas. On a review site it is described as “Cheeky Christmas soul pop with female vocals, strings & brass hooks.” That song, the last one in your set, won me over more so than any of the others. It’s simply delightful, a new seasonal classic, IMO, and therefore I enthusiastically cast my vote for the 4th act – Andy/Linda & Claire.
Have a great week, dear birthday girl!
Tom,
Thanks for joining me in my mid-December round of BoTB. Unfortunately, I’m short on time this morning but I wanted to make an attempt to do something in Blogosphere before scooting out the door. I’m with you on disregarding the video because they do influence one’s decision making. I rarely watch them. I’m happy to learn that you enjoyed Andy Powell featuring Louise Clare Marshall. The song is a playful, fun ditty that makes me want to get to my feet. I hope Mrs. Claus brings you plenty of ‘Kisses For Christmas’! 🙂
