BOTB results of Sugar Sugar

Posted on August 21, 2015

Good-morning, fellow BOTBers and fans (those of you who aren’t actively participating, but who vote and love music)! Let me say, sharing two covers for Sugar Sugar was fun and I believe I stirred some memories for many of you.

First off, let me say thanks to everyone who hopped over and voted for their favorite candidate. At first I thought this showdown was going to swing in favor of one artist, but as the votes trickled in then it provided to not be a complete shut out.

The popular opinion, including myself, felt Wilson Pickett did the job better capturing 13 of the 17 votes!

Wilson Pickett recorded more than 50 songs to hit the US R&B charts and many crossed over to the US Billboard Hot 100. It comes as no surprise with this sort of songwriting and recording impact in his career that led to his 1991 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

I hope to see you Kittens and Dawgs back here for September 1st round one of Battle of the Bands. This is Curious as a Cathy signing off with In the Midnight Hour!

Les, In the Midnight Hour is a classic song. You don’t have to be a night owl to love the tune. 😀

Interesting battle, as I didn’t know any covers existed for this song. 🙂 It’s hard to argue against Wilson Pickett, even though I picked Gladys.

    CATHY ~
Not a close Battle but a good song!

Whenever I think of Wilson Pickett, it always reminds me of the great movie ‘THE COMMITMENTS’. If you’ve never seen it, run – don’t walk!

Stephen, thanks for the movie hint. I haven’t seen it. I’ll look to see, if it’s on Netflix.

I second watching The Commitments! I haven’t watched it in years (so I can’t say if it holds up well), but when I saw it before it was great.

I would have thought I’d be voting in the minority with Wilson, but glad to see that so many have better musical taste like you and I. Wilson poured the sugar on that one as well as a liberal dose of funk.

Hi, dear Cathy! Thanks for reporting the outcome of your latest BOTB which featured two soul giants performing a song that was a hit record in the bubblegum/nursery rhyme pop category. I’m happy to know that you and most other voters came to the same conclusion and voted for The Wicket Pickett. Please take good care of yourself, dear friend Cathy. I’m thinking about you!

4M Guidelines: Below are the 4M co-hostess. The rules are simple. Every other week, a suggested (not mandatory) theme is given to build your song picks. We're looking for embedded music to enjoy, one song or several. On the off weeks, we dance to whatever music moves you (your choice)! It's just that easy. Have fun and welcome to the party!
