Bobby Sherman

Hello kittens and dawgs! Have you ever wondered, what ever happened to so-and-so? That happens often with me when I’m listening to an oldies music station or while watching TV. I’m Curious as a Cathy who needs answers to these questions and so a new post series is born. Today let’s take a look at What ever happened to Bobby Sherman?

I was born in the early 60s. By the time I was in elementary school Bobby Sherman was the heart-throb of the older girls. I remember watching 5th and 6th grade girls dance to this music idol. I was only 9 years old when his 1970 hit charted the Billboard Hot 100 at #5, but I recall the song very well. How about you?

I’m pretty sure on a recent trip to the mountains while listening to the Peter Noone show, Little Woman played. DH said, I wonder what happened to Bobby Sherman? I said, “You know I was wondering the same thing.”

Naturally, I had to know. Bobby Sherman celebrated his 73rd birthday last month on 22nd.  It’s hard to think of this handsome 70s celebrity as someone my parents’ age, especially when I think of how the older elementary school girls crushed over him. I was too young to fall in love with the heart-throb, but I do remember thinking he was nice looking.

Bobby Sherman retired from the entertainment industry decades ago. In the 70s, he became a father to two boys. He landed starring roles in such TV series: The Monkees, The Partridge Family, The FBI, The Dating Game, and Here Comes the Bride.  What I learned next about the singer/actor surprised me. In the late 70s he took a first aid course which became a springboard to  a career as an EMT and a county sheriff. Although, he doesn’t actively serve in the field these days, he does give his time to the LAPD as a sworn officer and provides volunteer EMTs to community events through his foundation.

You can find this photo on Sherman’s photo gallery page listed under the October 2003 Rialto Car Show event.

Show some love for this retro favorite by giving a little tweet-out! Maybe,  Mr. Sherman will get wind and come by for a little visit. cross fingers 😉

I’ll leave you to reminisce with these Bobby Sherman greatest hits.

Have a tunetastic day and please don’t forget to  join me for not-so Wordless Wednesay!

  1. I am glad I found this page! This was so interesting and fun to see. I have always loved Bobby and he certainly has always been crazy about me! Ha ha….little joke there. He doesn’t know I exist unless he read one of the 4,275 letters I sent him. Oh I am I am exaggerating….I only sent 3,112 letters. 😉 One of the stations on our cable showed the pilot of “Here Come The Brides” on New Year’s Day. I hadn’t seen that in ages and enjoyed watching it. Thanks for posting! Seeing this was great fun!

    1. It’s always delightful when someone trips over a fun post in my archives. I appreciate you taking time to let me know that you discovered my contributions among hundreds of thousands (no doubt) on Bobby Sherman in Cyberspace. You cracked me up with your humor being a huge fan of this star. I never saw “Here Come The Bridge” but I do remember his appearance on The Partridge Family and a few other guest spots on various 70s TV shows. It was interesting to learn that he did something more than just entertain us but served the LA community as an EMT and sheriff. That’s really impressive. Thanks for visiting and I hope you come again!

  2. Bobby Sherman is one of those performers that I hated when he was popular (because he was a dork, in common parlance) but I really like now. You know how it is…

    1. John, I understand where you’re coming from regarding once popular artists. I have a newer appreciation for some retro groups today that I didn’t listen to back in the day. While I may not like the genre most of those old bands were original and knew how to sing. That’s more than I can for today’s artists in most music categories. So, I definitely get ya.

    1. Liz, that is funny! I appreciate the FB links. They worked perfectly. I can’t believe how good he looks for 73 and it doesn’t look like he’s aged much in the past 13 years. That’s amazing!

  3. I liked Bobby Sherman. He was a regular on Here Come the Brides, which only lasted one season. I think he also sang the theme song to the show. I saw him on a talk show quite a few years ago and learned he had become an EMT. He said his most moving experience was delivering a baby girl, named Roberta in his honor. I love finding out what happened to the people we heard so much about in the past who have left the limelight. That’s one of the greatest things about the internet–as long as the info is accurate. I tweeted again!

    Love,
    Janie

    1. Janie, You’re da bomb! Thanks for the tweet-out! I don’t recall watching Here Come the Brides. I will have to check YouTube for the theme song. I’d say delivering a baby was an awesome experience. That’s something I would like to do. Speaking from a mother’s perspective, I’ve never been able to enjoy this experience fully. lol I really enjoyed learning this tidbit about Bobby Sherman. I think it’s wonderful he found something this rewarding and fulfilling to do after showbiz. Thanks for popping in today!

  4. You are my brother’s age-the 60’s decade is the best eh?:) I remember this guy well and enjoyed his music. What is nice is that he didn’t get into drugs and started another career and seems happy. David Cassidy should be so lucky

    1. Birgit, I know. I think it’s wonderful Bobby Sherman didn’t fall to pieces when he stepped out of the limelight. Judging by the photos of him I can see in his expression the joy this career choice has made in his life. David Cassidy now I’ve got to look into what’s behind his story. The last thing I saw on him was when he was on Celebrity Apprentice a few years back. Now, you got my brain fixed on knowing more.

  5. I remember hearing about Bobby Sherman’s law man career somewhere a number of years back, but since I’m in L.A. I guess I’d be more likely to hear this. I certainly remember when he hit the popularity scene. I was in college at U.T. at the time and it was not my style of music so he didn’t interest me that much, but it was hard to miss his teen idol status. Glad the success didn’t ruin him.

    1. Lee, I wasn’t sure if I remember right or not about you being in L.A. Bobby Sherman probably was more popular with the girls than the guys anyhow. lol I love how clean cut the teen idols were of those times, though. They were boys a girl could bring home to ma and pa for approval. 🙂

  6. You’re not that much older than me (I was born in 1965). I recall hearing the name of Bobby Sherman, but for the life of me I didn’t recall any of his songs. My sister was 11 years older than me, and this was her style of music. You would think that I would be able to recall this. Great post and thank you for introducing his music to me!

    1. Mary, I remember Bobby Sherman’s most popular songs because they were played frequently by the older girls in school and I’m sure they were on the radio throughout the mid to late 60s. I just love listening to these wholesome looking singers from the 50s, 60s, and even early 70s. I’m happy to reintroduce you to Bobby Sherman!
