Bird in Flight Procreate illustration

This week’s art prompt is birds and sky.  I don’t gravitate toward birds when I sketch but I’ve drawn a few since picking up my pencil in 2017.   Today, I’m following this YouTube tutorial to sketch a relatively simple scene of a bird flying in the clouds.   I took the liberty to add more to my background.  What do you think?

I think my bird is flying over the Smoky Mountains.

This week’s Thankful Thursday  I am thankful for music.  Music is medicine to my soul.  In times of trouble I find comfort with contemporary Christian songs.  I’m reminded that God is at the wheel.  The bible is full of reference to making joyful sounds to the Lord and singing praises.  Martin King said, “Music is one of the fairest and most glorious gifts of God, to which Satan is a bitter enemy, for it removes from the heart the weight of sorrow, and the fascination of evil thoughts.”   Even secular music is beneficial to one’s emotional and physical health.  It gets you moving and takes your mind off current events.  Right now I want to share a new song I found by Jonathan Traylor,  I Trust You.   The lyrics say it all!

I’m going to squeeze in Tuesday 4 since I thought there weren’t going to be any more questions and didn’t check back on Monday.  *sigh*   It’s just been a hairy week.

My Dreams ~ Try Using Photos!

1.   My dream house is?

A place like this might do.  I can’t tell if it has a garage or what kind of view it has but the yard looks fairly level so if there’s a nice view and a garage then I can see calling this place “Home Sweet Home”.

2.   My dream car is?

I’m not much for “dream cars”.  We got a Toyota Avalon (2019 model) at the end of November 2018.  We had intended to get another Camry but after test driving it we were disappointed and decided to look at this gorgeous Avalon that arrived only three days earlier on the lot.  The dealership wanted to meet their end of the month quota and made us an excellent deal.  This is the nicest car we’ve ever owned!

3.   My dream vacation is?
I wrote about our New England vacation in 1989 a few years backTo take another trip like that would be my ideal dream vacation and we hope to do that this year if all goes well.

4.   My dream life is?
As long as I’m with DH then I’m living the dream life but if we had tons of money then I think it would be awesome to travel around the country, maybe into Canada with our luxury RV. Just look at the inside of this one.

DH has a friend who has a nice RV, so I know these big things aren’t easy to drive especially when traveling tight roads.  That I wouldn’t like but it would be fun to see the country in your home on wheels without Cousin Eddie of course. 😉

I wanted to join Kat’s Writing Workshop today but I failed to check back in time for prompts.  I’m in hot pursuit to find social media alternatives to Twitter and Facebook.  Not to worry, as I mentioned I won’t be deleting my FB account anytime soon with many friends and family still there.  Big tech companies have overstepped their bounds with censorship.  Clearly they are biased with their heavy censoring of conservatives but enough about that.  I’m ready to fly like a bird over to Rain’s Garden to browse through the gallery of artistry and you’re welcome to follow along!

Tomorrow is DH’s off Friday but I won’t leave you empty handed.  Stop by to vote in  my 2021 Round 3 BoTB with some Friday Sillies.  Have a doodletastic day!  X💋X💋, Cathy

Same illustration above, except I used Pixelmator to add Pointilize effect. I quite like how this photo-edit transformed my original. What do you think?

  1. I think your painting turned out beautiful in both versions. The pointilized version kind of makes it look like there is a light snow falling 🙂 I think I have passed the point of dreaming of things. I am happy and comfortable being home with my DH. I love to travel and have a friend I have traveled with, but my DH is a homebody (hermit) and with Covid, travel is not on my list of things to do at this point. I had my dream home on a lake and it was marvelous and I miss being there. I especially miss the nature that surrounded us, but one must do what one must do and as my DH’s health didn’t allow him to help with the upkeep of things we moved into a MIL apartment with my son and DIL. It is quite comfortable and nice to have family close at hand. Always enjoy your music and I find music has been a great soothing relief in the times that we are living in. So I hope you are staying well and safe, Cathy …

    1. Andrea,

I’m glad you like both renditions of my bird art. Dreaming is fun but the important thing is to be content where you are and that I can do. I’m blessed. Anything more that comes my way will be like icing on the cake. I’m glad you and your husband are living in an apartment near your family. At least you don’t have to worry about not having someone around to help should you need it. Some parents don’t have that as they age. Part of my fear is that will be the way we’ll spend our golden years. Stay safe and well, my dear!

  2. Hi Cathy 🙂 Oh your bird flying over the Smokies is beautiful, I like the original over the pixilated one! The colours and background are pretty! 🙂 Oh that dream house….yeah, I concur as long as it was in the middle of the woods FAR away from people lol…I’m such a hermit! That RV had me giggling at it’s decadence…but I would love to own it ha! 🙂 Some RV’s are nicer than some homes!!! 🙂

    1. Rain,

I want the feel of being out in the woods but not far away from a far sided town. Those luxury RVs are sweet but boy you know they’re going to have a big price tag attached. Thanks for stopping by, dear!

    1. Eugenia,

My dream home has a way of changing but basically if it has that warm cozy vibe and a few other things we’re looking for then I’d ready to move in. 🙂

  3. I like your dove, I think it’s so much fun having these art dates as you get to see art in different forms but also to visit people all over the globe – are you near the rocky mountains? I will have a browse of your blog now – I like your dream house on this post – mine would be a tree house in the woods made of mirror glass so that nobody could see it – it would be huge, with a wet room and a sauna! Thanks for stopping by my blog.

    1. Betty,

We live in the eastern part of the US in Knoxville, TN which is close to the Great Smoky Mountains and home of country artist Dolly Pardon. Tree houses are really interesting. I think the concept is fun but I’d worry about having to climb a lot of stairs when I’m older. Thanks for visiting and do come again! 😉

  4. absolutely love the dove. Your dream list is superb. Love the song I actually listened to it. I am also enjoying my life I am living with Gator all though his health is going down hill quickly due to stage IV colon cancer that went terminal. Hope you have a blessed weekend (Friday’s coming) and enjoy the day with hubby.

  5. Your dove is most beautiful. You’re so talented.

Love all your dream things and especially that awesome home. Wow, I’d love that too.

Have a fabulous day, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥

    1. Thanks, Sandee. The video instructions made sketching the dove a piece of cake which is right up my alley and I’m delighted you liked how it turned out. 😉

    1. Procreate is a marvelous app. DH got it for my iPad even before I had the Apple pencil which makes using the app a lot easier in my opinion. It’s my favorite go-to app! I still like pulling out my sketch pad and pencils but most of the time I’d rather use Procreate. Do download it on your mobile device. You’ll enjoy it!

  6. I love your dove illustration and adding the brilliant sun and mountains below just makes it better in my eyes. That RV is one for J-LO or someone like that. I am amazed at how beautiful it looks. My dream vacation would be Europe…Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and have a combo of seeing the great museums to walking in some breathtaking areas with waterfalls and mountains. I would love to have an old fashioned 1957 convertible with the big fins but I would take a lamborghini for a spin. I would love to own an old Victorian house with some great woodwork inside plus a couple of secret passage ways. I have to admit that it would be nice not to have to worry about money and be able to travel every year but I can dream and know that my life now is pretty dreamy.

    1. Birgit,

Victorian houses are beautiful and charming. The work work is stunning inside and out. I like the idea of secret passages. That would be super cool! Visiting Europe would be a dream vacation for sure but I’d have to get over my fear of travel first. Thanks for joining in the fun, my dear!

    1. Lub your bird art. And your dreams for beautiful car house life, we must have dreams

      Happy Thursday

Thanks for dropping by to view mine

      Much love…

  7. Your dove flying in the clouds is amazing. You draw SO well. Most impressive.

I often think I would enjoy traveling a few months every year in an RV. It sounds like a fun adventure. Love what you did this week, Cathy. Now I know why I have never been interested in any social media site except blogger.

    1. Elizabeth,

Thank you for your wonderful words of praise. You’re too sweet! Facebook was fun in the beginning because I could visit with old friends and family. The fan page side of Facebook didn’t make sense to me, though. I never understood Twitter. Folks are sharing links and offering their views, etc but it’s turned into something ugly. I’m not just talking about the negative energy but the unfair censoring practices going on. It’s really sad to see this happening in America. I’m glad you never got tangled up in the social media circus. 😉

    1. Ellen,

I’ve always fantasied about having a cabin in the mountains just as long as my home isn’t on the side of the mountain. I want some level land to enjoy. Usually ever mountain home I’ve seen, it’s partly on the side with very little usable yard. I would be awesome to find a level piece of land in or just outside of town to build a home just like we want. That would be a dream come true!

  8. Great illustration and we really have to get the old man to dig out his pencil. Ahhh dreams. I actually am pretty much there except for some paint etc. I mean you have to love your own skin

    1. Timmy,

The old man? Your human might not like that expression. One years’ doesn’t define you, it’s one’s attitude that says I’m a youngster and while the body might not be on board with that way of thinking it does the soul good. Tell your human to get drawing again. It will bring him a lot of joy. Thanks for visiting!

  9. I love your sketch! Those were good answers too. Our blog pal from tentoesinthewater have their dream log cabin in the mountains and they love it. Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!

    1. Brian,

That’s wonderful to read when people are living in their dream home or life. I’m hanging onto hope that we’ll find our dream home someday soon but if not I’m thankful for what I have. 🙂

  10. Wow ~ your quote from Martin Luther is exactly what I needed to read this morning! I’m fighting a spiritual battle for my daughter (Sarah), and God will have the victory in this ~ I just wish it would happen faster. I listened to the song as well which was uplifting and fun to watch them dance as well as listen to the lyrics. I’ll have to check out Thankful Thursday, sounds like a good way to count our blessings. Enjoy your weekend ahead! Love, Karen

    1. Karen,

God’s time table and ours don’t often mesh up but we have to trust Him completely while asking for His peace to carry us through the turmoil. I understand what you’re going through, though. Have a blessed weekend, my dear!

  11. Ohhhhh I love this bird and sky scene. You have a real talent for drawing. I will put up a post and Saturday about my Raven art. I could live in that dream house too. My dream car….hmmmmm I guess anything new right now. LOL I have been to most states in the US. Spent a lot of time in Canada and Mexico. The only place of long distance was a trip to Japan. I have always wanted to go to Australia and hit the back country. Have a great day today.

    1. Nicole,

Thanks for the heads up on your Saturday post. I will do my best to hop over to check it out. Your dream vacation sounds exotic. It would be cool to see Australia. I’d love to see a little joey riding in its mama’s pouch.

  12. Your lovely sketch of the white dove flying in the clouds made me think of that terrific song “La Paloma Blanca,” one of my faves!

    1. Debra,

I had not heard of “La Paloma Blanca” before so I hopped over to YouTube to listen to it. I’m assuming you’re talking about Georgie Dann’s song. He’s singing in Spanish so I don’t understand a word but it’s catchy tune. So, I found an artist singing it in English so I could follow the lyrics. Now, I understand why my little bird reminds you of the song. 🙂

Here’s the English version for curious ears…
