An American Independence Day Celebration

Awww Mondays hosted by Sandee from Comedy Plus.

I’m happy to announce the return of Songbird’s Crazy World as a returning honorary co-hostess for July with the Monday’s Music Moves Me crew.

The theme this week is whatever music moves you for freedom of song choice week.

Greetings to all and an early Happy Independence Day to my fellow Americans! I was trying to come up with a theme for this week’s freedom of song choice. My first thought patriotic songs or bands that sounded patriotic. One of the hits was 50 Top American Bands of All Times and BING, “Hello inspiration”!

It only seems fitting to use my first band selection where there’s much history and perhaps the first place to signal to the British that Americans were tired of being under the Royals thumb with the insane taxation imposed. Let’s give it up for Boston!

Boston Greatest Hits

Anyone care for a cup of tea? Moving right on, thinking about American pride and things we hold dear, the next band playing needs no explanation, The Eagles! Let’s hit the dance floor with 20 of their best songs!

This is a long weekend for most but I suppose I’ll wind things down with more music inspired by Best Rock Patriotic Songs with these 7-songs.

1. We’re An American Band ~Grand Funk Railroad 2. Living In America ~James Brown 3. Living In The USA ~Steve Miller Band 4. Red, White, and Blue Music ~Lynrd Skynyrd 5. Warrior ~Kid Rock 6. Don’t Tread On Me ~Metallica 7. Star Spangled Banner ~Metallica

This is a music linky party.  Your co-hostess are StacyAlana, and Me.   Every other week we have a suggested music theme (see weekly prompts here) to build your song set around and all participants share YouTube or Vimeo videos for our music enthusiasts.  Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.

For those who like participating in the BOTB voting process each month, you will the battle showdown here.

Marie has corresponded with me more lately.  This is a good sign or at least I feel that it is.  She sends her hellos and love to you.  I was happy to read she has a new back doctor closer to home.  Her leg(s) are swelling again and she continues to have trouble sitting too long at the computer.  She did get it fixed but it needs security software to prevent future attacks.  I hope she gets her health and technology lined up so she can resume the things she loves.  Keep those prayers going for our good friend!  This is CAAC signing off,  have a red, white, and boogietastic week!

  1. As always love your playlist, dear Cathy.

Happy 4th July, a day late, but let the celebrations go on all week.

I am jumping in with a few tips to go plastic free this July and MJ crooning to Heal the World. Hope that’s okay, sweetie.

Love, hugs and loads of cheer always.

    1. Natasha,

It’s always nice to see you at the party. Thanks for the warm wishes for our nation’s Independence Day celebration. I’m happy you decided to hit the dance floor this week. Feel free to link up anytime, my friend!

    1. Rain,

I sure do appreciate you checking in with me. I haven’t been the best bloggy pal lately. Maybe, things will slow down in a few months where I can get back into my normal groove again. Thanks for visiting, my dear!

  2. Such a great playlist and I love the quote that you have posted so much, that I am going to steal it. Very nice. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Fourth. Thanks for hosting this great party.

    1. Patrick,

You’re more than welcome to lift the quote. I did the same. lol The Internet has some great resources to share with others. I like inspiring others with my discoveries. Have a boogietastic week and thanks for coming to the party, my friend.

  3. All the best to Marie. Great picks of music. My little brother was the light and sound man for the Eagles before he passed. As for celebrating the 4th. There is not much to celebrate with what is happening here. Independence is all but lost. America is in a world of hurt. We can just carry on. Hope you are having a good weekend.

    1. Nicole,

How cool read your little brother worked the light and sound for the Eagles. I’m sorry to read that he’s no longer here, though. That’s sad. I lost my baby brother in 2006, so I understand that loss. Thanks for joining me on the dance floor, my friend!

  4. Happy you heard from Marie. What a struggle this past year has been for her. You’ve given us lots of music with something for everyone. Interesting new (to me) Boston songs. I loved rocking out to James Brown and Metallica. The Humphrey quote was spot on. Hope you have a great 4th.

    1. Alana,

The last couple of two years have been really hard for Marie. I hope the doctors figure out what works for her where she can better manage the chronic pain. Getting older isn’t fun but compounding the years with body parts that won’t work or achy is no picnic. Thanks for co-hosting this gig with me each week, my friend!

  5. Hi, Cathy!

Happy Paw-some 4M Monday on Sunday, dear friend! I hope you had a great week and that you and DH are enjoying the Independence Day holiday weekend. Mrs. Shady and I traveled across the state yesterday to spend the way with her daughter and family. A few days from now, they will be moving to another state up north and, after that, our visits with them will be few and far between, as it is with your DD living in Maine. Last night, the 4th of July fireworks started two nights early in our neighborhood and spooked our kitty.

Awww… I just wanna smooch that patriotic doggie who is proudly waving and wearing the red, white and blue!

I enjoyed your set of songs by top American bands. I was wondering why I wasn’t familiar with Boston’s “Tell Me” and “Higher Power” songs. I looked them up and discovered that they are previously unreleased recordings that finally dropped in 1997 on the band’s Greatest Hits album. It seems odd to include unknown, unreleased songs on a GH compilation, but I like them both a lot. Of course, they are followed on that album by Boston’s major chart singles and I always enjoy listening to them. They still sound fresh after all these years.

Boston’s hit string extended from the mid 70s through late 80s, while The Eagles, your second featured American band, were hottest during a ten year span from the early 70s to the start of the 80s. I enjoyed this long medley of their major and minor hits, my favorites being “Lyin’ Eyes,” “Take It Easy,” “Best Of My Love,” “One Of These Nights,” “Heartache Tonight,” “Fast Lane,” “Already Gone” and “Witchy Woman.”

I also enjoyed the third batch of songs starting with Grand Funk Railroad’s “American Band.” Steve Miller’s “Living In The U.S.A.” was released in 1974 and only made it halfway up the chart. I always liked that one, but hardly ever hear it in the 21st century. Your block concluded with two numbers by Metallica, including their 2013 live instrumental performance of “The Star Spangled Banner” at the SF Giants’ AT&T Park. I see that Metallica returned and played the national anthem again in May of this year at the stadium which is now called Oracle Park.

Yessum, I’m rooting for Marie to return to complete health and get back in action here in blogland. I appreciated the meme quoting HHH. Thanks for the inspiring music for a 4th of July weekend, dear friend Cathy. I wish you and you family a safe and happy holiday!

    1. Tom,

Ahh, I’m sorry to read Mrs. Shady’s daughter and family are moving. That will be hard. It broke my heart when DD#2 moved to Maine. I was happy for her new adventure but still I knew the strain it would cause. We’re excited to spend time with her while vacationing there. We had a few pre-Independance Day booms which doesn’t bother us. If we had pets then I’m sure they wouldn’t like the noise. When we retired for bed on the 4th, we could hear the fireworks lingering from downtown on the water. They shoot off the big stuff so the rumbles carry many miles away which always brings to mind the 1982 World’s Fair here. Every night around 10pm, they’d close the site down for the day with fireworks. 🙂 Thanks for dropping by to enjoy the music spinning on my virtual turntable. Have a boogietastic day, my friend!
