I can’t spell DNCE with out U. 🙂 I’d like to take credit for that funny but DH came up with that after hearing a different funny spin-off of DNCE’s Cake by the Ocean. I stumbled upon these cute little furry friends singing this dance worthy tune and decided to turn today’s Friday Fun Stuff into a dance party featuring Alvin and the Chipmunks.
Recently I watched the 2007 Alvin and the Chipmunk movie. Jason Lee does a fabulous job as Dave Seville. Overall I enjoyed this adorably cute and predictable flick capturing my inner child. 🙂
Things are progressing about normal with DH’s retina attachment surgery but his vision issues remain. This may not resolve itself until after he finishes the process which includes two other procedures and getting new glasses. We aren’t venturing off for long day trips but keep closer to home. It’s funny how we still find a lot to do and places we haven’t seen or been to in a long time. It’s interesting how we can drive 15-20 minutes out of the city and it’s almost like rural east Tennessee. This is a view of House Mountain not too far from where we live.
Today, I Celebrate The Small Things, such as DD#1. This week, she turned 29. She was once so tiny weighing less than 6 pounds. I baked her a Triple Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Bean Buttercream Frosting (See recipe below).
Next year, she enters a new decade. My beautiful baby girl is now a beautiful woman…a single, beautiful woman! 😉 lol
In honor of DD#1 who loved watching Alvin and the Chipmunks, especially features of the Chipettes because well…she shares the name of Alvin’s girlfriend. Let’s hear for The Chipettes!
What are you celebrating?
Thanks for hosting the fun, Annie and Ellen!
(1) My next scheduled post will be Monday Mewsic Moves Me and you’re invited to hit the dance floor with “Independence Day or Celebrating the Holiday” tunes with a blogversary giveaway kicking off.
(2) Fireworks originated in China some 2,000 years ago in an accidentally discovery when a Chinese cook working in a field kitchen mixed charcoal, sulfur, and saltpeter (items commonly found in kitchens in those days). The mixture burned and when compressed in an enclosure (a bamboo tube), it exploded. Can you imagine the kaboom? (source credit)
(3) This week, I am thankful to live in the good ole USA. There’s no better land than only in America!
.
(4) Freedom earned by our forefathers and maintained by today by all who SERVE this country and the LOVE from the ordinary American fighting to protect the liberties of this great land through voice and action.
.
I appreciate you joining me. I’m taking it easy this summer with posts loosely done on a whim. Hopefully, you get notifications delivered to your email whenever I add a new post but if not, then you may want to join now to not miss out!
That’s a wrap for now, I’ll see ya on the dance floor for independence Day or Celebrating the holiday tunes and a Mondays Mewsic Moves Me anniversary giveaway!
Until next time, have a laughtastic weekend!

I apologize for may lateness in responding. Although I read posts last week, with Chloe Jo in the hospital, it has been difficult. As I write this, she is back in the hospital for observation and tests. Thanks for understanding.
I love your answers. I think we are soul sisters. Hugs.
Happy Independence Day!
That is a beautiful mountain scene, Cathy. 🙂
I hope that your daughter had a great birthday. She doesn’t look like she’s nearing 30. I think when I was that age, I definitely looked it. My sister was plucking gray hairs from my head when I was 27 and stopped and said, “Are you *sure* you want me to keep plucking them?” I apparently had a head full of them. 🙂
I still remember the day my mama turned 30. It was 1974 and I was 8-years-old-going-on-nine. I’m sure she does, too, as I told every single person we came in contact with that day. The look she gave me let me know that she really appreciated that very much. haha
Great quote! Ronald Reagan was the best. I sure do miss him.
Have a blessed week and a great 4th!
Suzanne,
I don’t believe I had gray hair at 30…well, I may have had a stray one or two but nothing major. Some people are prone to pre-maturing graying. I remember when we were in our 20s and one of the couples in our Sunday School class the husband had salt and pepper hair, more salt than pepper. lol He was in his early 20s. I read that lack of oxygen to the brain contribute to graying. I don’t know if that’s true, though. I had a hard time with turning 30. I suddenly felt that age was creeping up on me. 😀 That’s kind of funny now. Reagan was a wise man and we miss him, too. What a great man!
I’m glad you weren’t gray by 30. 🙂 I didn’t realize back then that I had as much gray hair as I did. Leave it to a little sister to point it out. haha
I’ve heard early graying is an indications of serious health problems, too. One of the boys that my mama went to high school with had a head full of white or gray hair – in high school! I knew him at a later point in his life, but he was still young, a young face and everything, but still the white/gray hair. He ended up dying young, too. Very sad. I think he might have been gone already by the time David and I got married, which would mean his late 30s/early 40s.
I think my mama had a hard time turning 30, too, and my big mouth didn’t help matters. 🙂
So, have you felt better about getting older since that birthday? I don’t really know yet how I feel about turning 52 this year. Turning 40 was freeing in many ways to me and turning 50 was empowering, but also made me feel like I needed to step things up a notch.
Have a blessed 4th!
You have a lovely daughter – Happy Birthday! That cake looks wonderful too (I think I’m getting hungry). Glad to hear you’re finding things to do in a closer radius. The picture is pretty.
Tonja, I think others could find more to do close to home, too. It just takes an adventurous spirit to get out to explore. A drive in the country is just as relaxing as going to the mountains for the day. 🙂
Wishing many happy returns of the day to your daughter, and thanks for the music clips, they made my morning!
Thanks, MessyMimi!
That’s a cool mountain shot… almost looks like a volcano! Fun to see your daughter’s baby photo and recent photo. She’s a beauty!!
Peter,
House Mountain always made me think of a volcano, too. Thanks for your kind words about DD#1. I have to agree, she’s a beauty! 😉
Amen to the Ronald Reagan quote. Too few people stand up for God anymore.
David,
Sadly this is true. Too many people rather stand up for what’s popular instead of what’s moral or right or holy. Reagan was a wise man. Thanks for visiting!
Hi, Cathy!
As you might recall Shady Seaweed presented Joe Jonas and his dance-rock band DNCE on New Year’s Rockin’ Eve 2016. It was a hoot to hear a speeded up vocal version as by Alvin and the Chipmunks. Seems like many popular hits are being given the Chipmunk treatment these days. “Uptown Funk” is my Pick-To-Click. Starting with “Witch Doctor” in 1958, the novelty ditties released by Ross Bagdasarian as David Seville and later as The Chipmunks were a big part of my growing up years. I think I’d enjoy that biographical movie you mentioned.
I’m happy to learn about the slow but steady progress DH is making toward getting his vision back to normal. Someday this whole ordeal will be a distant memory for him and for you. Happy birthday to your oldest daughter Brittany. She was a cute baby and she is indeed a beautiful woman. The cake you baked looks so good it has my mouth watering.
I enjoyed hearing Night Ranger again. They are one of the bands I met while working at that MTV style station in the 80s. They came to our studio and were interviewed by the veejay who hosted our station’s rock and heavy metal program. I also enjoyed the all American sound of Brooks & Dunn.
Thank you very much for the mewsical entertainment, dear friend Cathy. I wish you and your family a safe and happy 4th!
Tom,
I do remember Joe Jonas rocking out the old year in 2016 on SDMM. The Chipmunks turn any song into a fun experience to hear. I have a Christmas with the Chipmunks on CD which I uploaded to iTunes. This way I can listen to everything over and over on “Shuffle” without getting bored.
We’re definitely eager to have DH’s eye health ordeal behind us. The doctor mentioned removing the oil bubble in October but we’re not sure yet if he’ll have cataract surgery at that time. He’d like to get both procedures done at the same time. There’s a bit of concern the retina could detach again after the oil bubble is removed, which happens sometimes. I hope THAT doesn’t happen with him! Thanks for the bday wishes for DD#1. She resembles DH’s mother so much which naturally means she looks like her daddy. 😀 That’s cool, you met Night Ranger! Working at the “MTV” style station sounds more like fun than work but that’s from an outsider looking in, right? 🙂 Thanks for stopping by, my friend. I hope you and Mrs. Shady have a fun, safe Independence Day celebration, too!
Your daughter was a cute baby and is a beautiful young lady now. Great fill-in answers , I did not know that about fireworks. Have a great weekend!
Ellen,
I didn’t, either. But it seem a lot of inventions are accidental discoveries. 🙂
My mom remembers that actual song from these chipmunks…it was a huge hit in the 1960’s. Your daughter is quite beautiful and such a sweet baby photo. I will be celebrating Canada Day and we celebrate 150 years even though we were around much longer. Personally nothing beats living in Canada:) I’m just happy that we all are very proud of our own countries as it should be:)
Birgit,
Cananda is a wonderful country. You have good reason to be proud to live in Canada! If I had to move to another country, I believe Canada would be at the top of my very short list. We both have reason to celebrate!
