A Thousand Kisses Deep BOTB Showdown

In today’s battle, I found inspiration from one of my 4M song searches, A Thousand Kisses Deep (⇠music video for your reference only) by Leonard Cohen.

Listen to the following cover artists to see which female voice resonates best with your ear.

Contender #1 Athina Maria
Contender #2 Sadie Paton

The vocal audio in Athina’s production was muffled but I liked her voice. Her simple rendition with the piano made it all the more enjoyable. In the second video Originally, I had a different second artist up but the recording was too boomy but I liked the music arrangement and then I found Sadie’s cover which I liked even more. I’m not sure which gal is my ultimate favorite. Perhaps it’ll be easier for you to choose. Who do you prefer, Athina or Sadie?

Polls close at noon (ET) on Mar. 21!

Next week, same time be sure to check back to see which cover artist wins this showdown. For more battles underway, you’ll find a list of all BOTB participators in my side bar.  My newest installment in my Maine photo memories series publishes in a few minutes, so stay tune for it.  This is CAAC signing off, have a bandtastic day! 1. Hi Cathy, I love your battle, as I’m a huge Leonard Cohen fan. Both covers were good, but Sadie’s version resonated more, probably because of the fuller sound.

    1. Debbie,

Leonard Cohen has a distinguished voice. This song he does is probably the best thing I’ve heard by him. I believe his style is something you naturally gravitate to or else you tend to pull away from like I do in most instances. It doesn’t surprise me that you are drawn in more by SADIE PATON in this round giving her your vote. Thanks for joining the battle fun, my dear!

      1. Where did my comment go? OK…I listened to both and I bote for the first gal because I liked her voice more. I did like the instruments used in the 2nd version but still going for the first

        1. Thanks for dropping by Birgit! Just so you’ll know this is the only comment that came through. I’m happy that you tried again. I have you down for ATHINA. The count is closing up a little tighter with your vote but still she’s down. There’s time for her to pull it off!

    1. Mimi,

SADIE PATON is the favorite in this battle but only by a small margin. I wonder if Athina can pull some votes out of the woodworks before the showdown ends?

  2. I must say there’s a lot going for Athina Marie, the lady in blue with fantastic shoes. Piano is nice as well, very polished.
Sadie, on the other hand, infers a hint of truth in a voice as crisp as a fresh red apple. She could sing a whale of a tale and I’d probably believe it 😉 I’m voting for Sadie, can you tell?

  3. This one was hard. Flip a coin. Okay, I need to pick my favorite. I’ll go with Sadie. Just simple and powerful.

Have a fabulous day and rest of the week, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥

  4. Sadie has a nice voice, but overall I prefer Athina’s vocal. Also the simple piano accompaniment was better to me. The synthetic drum turned me off.

My vote goes to Athina Marie

  5. Hi, Cathy!

Happy Wild, Wacky and Almost Wordless Wednesday, dear friend! I hope you are having nice week. A special shout out to my good buddy Foghorn Leghorn.

Leonard Cohen’s creepy, hypnotic song “A Thousand Kisses Deep” would work well in the soundtrack of a David Lynch production. Wiki sez: — “A Thousand Kisses Deep” was used in the movie The Good Thief, in the 2010 French movie Le bruit des glaçons, and in Season 3 of the TV Series Veronica Mars. — Frankly, it is a song I don’t think I would want to listen to for hours on repeat.

In your battle, it didn’t take long for me to make up my mind. Artist #1, Athina Maria, didn’t have much of an effect on me, didn’t make me warm to the song to any greater extent than the original artist. However, it was a different story when I listened to contestant #2. Unless I found the wrong Sadie Paton, she is the singing daughter of the well known Scottish singer and musician David Paton who was lead singer and bass player for Pilot, the Scottish band that gave us the hit “Magic.” He was also with The Alan Parsons Project at the beginning. Sadie’s vocal treatment of the song has more character than Athina’s, makes me actually like the song. Therefore, I am giving my vote to artist #2 – Sadie Paton!

Hang on. I’ll be right back to take the next leg of your Maine journey, dear friend Cathy!

    1. Tom,

Good morning, my friend! I appreciate the factoid on Sadie Paton. I did not know that her dad was a member of Pilot. That’s really interesting since the band popped up a time or two on my radar last year. This song would make a great one for a David Lynch film. Like you, I could not listen to Leonard Cohen for hours. I barely can make it through a song he sings. I appreciate you sharing your discovery about Sadie. I’m glad you enjoyed SADIE PATON enough to cast your vote for her in this round, my friend. Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!
