A cookie for each hand

Howdy, hi!  When our first daughter was little she would always had to have a cracker in each hand.  A small child holding a single Cheez-It cracker appears monstrously big in a tiny hand, not to mention adorable.  To this day anytime we’re snacking, I might say to DH, “I’ll take two crackers, one for each hand.”  The same thought process applies to all foods really.  Having potato chips?  I’ll take two.  How about cookies? I’ll take two. Alright that’s pushing it a bit but I will have two halves.  DH is the cookie monster in the family and the first sketch in today’s art collection I drew with him in mind.

From my 2018 A2Z iPad Art Sketch series for the letter ‘M’.
Cookie Monster trying to snitch a red velvet cookie back in the winter

It’s interesting a few weeks or so ago while out driving, we were listening to SiriusXM when I noticed an all-girl oldie band called, The Cookies.  Have you heard of them?  I don’t remember which song we were listening to so I did a quick look and found their first hit song released in 1962, Chains.  I found it interesting that song gained popularity after the Beatles covered Chains in 1963.  I prefer The Cookies version to those mop-top fellas. 🙂

He likes cookies, too. You probably remember my vintage pinup girl A2Z series from last year. I used this one for the letter ‘C’.
I used a similar design as this last year for DD2’s birthday card. Using Procreate offers an artist flexibility to re-do any part of her work.
This is the original design minus the birthday greeting. I thought I had shared this in Blogosphere before but I hadn’t because I sent the image as a text message and didn’t print it out. Sometimes I run behind.

Last Wednesday I shared this gify I made.  Cookie Monster said he was guarding the chocolate chip pecan cookies I made DS for his birthday, but I think otherwise. What do you think?

I’m sure you have a chocolate chip cookie recipe but here’s mine.  Pretty much the same, except mine are almost world-famous, at least in my world.  LOL

This week’s Thankful Thursday…I’m extremely thankful for our middle child.  Tomorrow, she celebrates her 31st birthday.  For us it seems like yesterday God gave her to us.  The sands of time slipped by much too fast.  Not only does time to continue to escape us but we’re separated by many, many miles.  I’m thankful for technology and the ease of staying in touch.  Life in modern times offers many blessings.

I’m winding things up today with Kat’s Writing Workshop using one of her prompts.  I’m going with choose a photo from a previous May and write a poem or post about it.  That seems easy enough, so I’ll give this one a try.

Over the years, we’ve taken day trips to Brevard, NC located southwest of Hendersonville.  I believe that’s actresss Andie McDowell’s hometown.  Brevard is a quaint town.  There really isn’t a lot there to the passing eye but it draws a good crowd on during the summers.  I suspect it’s because its home to the Brevard Music School one of our nation’s preeminent summer music teaching and performance institutions.  We were told once by a local retailer that Steve Martin has a home in the area and has taught at the school.  While that’s all fascinating to know, what I really love about the small community is its home to the white squirrel.  Yes, it’s a real critter, folks!  The city even has a festival to honor these little cuties.  We were fortunate to spot several on our visit in 2016.

This little guys was super friendly.  At one point, he scurried across the parking lot and I thought for sure he would jump through the window. I made a made panic to raise it before he had the chance.  He certainly wasn’t camera shy in the least.  I think he was hoping we’d throw him some food scraps.  Sorry, that’s not gonna happen!  The festival got cancelled this year thank you not Covid-19 but I read the North Carolina governor plans to do away with all pandemic protocol beginning June 1st.  Hallelujah, I hope all states do the same!

In honor of my little girl, I’m sharing a TBT tune that was the #1 dance track in America. Here’s Vogue by Madonna!

I’m heading over to Rain’s Garden to browse the gallery of artistry for today’s prompt, “Cookie” to see how others were inspired.   Have a doodletastic day! X💋X💋, Cathy

  1. What a fun post! Thanks for sharing your cookie recipe! I love all of your pinups Cathy, I should bake in that outfit lol…And btw, I wouldn’t believe Cookie Monster one bit if he claims he will only GUARD the cookies!!! Great giphy! 🙂

  2. Oh Lordy…I do remember The Cookies. My personal fav was “Don’t Say Nothin’ Bad” as a matter of random fact.

Thanks for reminding me just how old I am, Cathy.

    Hugs…Stay Safe!

    1. Patty,

We’re all getting older. You know what they say the alternative to not getting older is, right? I’ll take the years to come! 🙂 Thanks for visiting, my dear!

  3. So when I was here earlier your comment section was closed, so I wrote you a comment on my comment section in hopes that you would see it if you came over to comment on my post. Seems complicated, but it really isn’t. What I forgot to mention was your white squirrel. I was excited when I saw a black squirrel, but your white squirrel tops that … absolutely beautiful. Also, I am guessing that DH would be more interested in your Pin up L’il Chef than the cookies she is making 🙂 … of maybe both, if he is a real Cookie Monster. I hope you will stop by my blog to get the rest of your comment 🙂

    1. Andrea,

I just came from your blog. WordPress does strange things sometimes. Who know why it though my comment section was closed. I have it set for two weeks but I really need to adjust that since A2Zers are still making their rounds. I’m glad you got me to think about that. Anywhow, DH is more interested in the sexy pinup I’m sure but appreciates the cutes of the l’il chef. 🙂 Thanks for letting me know and for your visit, my dear!

  4. I love your drawings and that you now have them in colour! one sexy and the other sweet just like the cookies. My hubby is also the cookie monster. My recipe looks similar but what is ghiradelli?? Happy Birthday to your daughter and may she enjoy dancing to Vogue…I know I did back in the day. The white squirrel is ready for his close up! He is a real sweetie and maybe he is waiting for his own cookie but must be made with nuts 🙂

    1. Birgit,

Ghiradelli is a brand of chocolate. Can’t you get it in Canada? They are based in San Francisco. They not only making baking chocolates but chocolate candy, too. I prefer Ghiradelli over Nestle and Hershey chocolate chips. Yeah the white squirrel probably would like the chocolate chip pecan cookies for sure and his preference is go heavy on the pecans forget the chocolate chips. 🙂

  5. Thank you for the mention, Cathy, and your cookie recipe! My hubby is a cookie monster too and can do in a half dozen cookies in no time! Love the pic of the white squirrel and the tunes. ❤️

    1. Eugenia,

Anytime…oh no I missed coming by yesterday! slap forehead I’m telling you brain is so rattled with all the going ons. I’m so ready for a bit of a break in Blogosphere.

      1. Don’t feel bad, Cathy, I missed a few yesterday too! I’m slowing down on writing for others and concentrating on my own blogs.

  6. I enjoyed the cookie monster. I like how you claim that is your husband. Such fun.

I never heard of the Cookies, or the song for that matter, but I enjoyed it. Really old, I suspect, at least it felt like it to me, even though you said the Beatles also recorded the song, too. Since I never got into the Beatles, that doesn’t surprise me.

Loved that squirrel. I’ve seen red and gray, but never white squirrels before. What a great find. And of course, happy birthday to your DD2 on her 31st.

    1. Elizabeth,

Yep, yep DH i s my “Cookie Monster”. That fella can put them away like you wouldn’t believe. He’s cut back a lot over the years but if he lets loose then he can easily eat a 8, 10, or an even dozen without blinking an eye. I get fat looking at the plate of cookies. lol I have a cap of two cookies but usually eat only one and that’s plenty satisfying for me. Thanks for the bday wishes for DD2. The years really slipped away!

  7. Such a fun post, and now i have to go see if i have a cookie hiding anywhere. There might be a leftover fortune cookie in the drawer with the sauce packets we save.

    1. Mimi,

I hope you found a cookie stashed for a little snack. We usually have cookies of some sort in the house with Cookie Monster aka DH always wanting them. 🙂

  8. Great drawings, I love Cookie Monster, Thank you for the recipe, it looks good. XO

  9. I never heard of the group called “Cookies” but I do like good cookies to eat. I rarely make any cookies myself, but I almost always have some kind of store bought cookies in my cupboards. The most recent cookies I bought were some Mexican brands of cinnamon crisp cookies (pretty good) and some strawberry filled cookies (not as good as they looked on the package illustration). The best cookies are the ones freshly made at home.

    1. Lee,

We like store bought cookies and keep a few packages in the freezer when we’re in crisis mode because there aren’t any fresh baked cookies around. DH really likes Kebbler’s Pecan Sandies. They are really good but I make a pretty wicked home made version. Mmm, I need to make some of them! Nah, I better hold off. We’re trying to loose weight. Oh why do we like eating sweets? Sometimes I envy people who don’t have a sweet tooth but I’m sure they find other ways to get those extra unwanted calories into their diet. 🙂 Thanks for visiting.

  10. Love your post today! And the music! We LOVE cookies around here, too! We are thankful for you too! lately we have not been commenting as much (Mom has been furry busy) but we want you to know we LOVE your wonderful posts! Thank YOU! You ROCK!

    1. No sweat, little furrriends. Tell your mom I appreciate the time y’all spend whenever you get a chance. My blog door is open 24/7! 😉 Your sweet words warm my heart and I’m happy you enjoy what I share. Have a cookie-licious day!

  11. I’ve never seen a white squirrel before, what a cutie!! He looks like he would love a cracker for each hand!

    1. Kat,

It was really cool to see the white squirrels and it was our first time. We’ve tried on and off over the years but never successful, then after that sighting in 2016 we tried again to spot them but no luck at it. Maybe next spring we’ll venture over to Brevard to watch for them.

  12. Yum Yum! I do love a good cookie! Thanks for sharing and thanks for joining me in Throwback Thursday!

  13. The cookie monster is laughable and fits perfectly with the topic and also your painted pictures as a great baker and the great music videos!
    The little guy is cute!
Have a beautiful restweek , hug Elke

  14. Ohhh yeahhh. I remember the “Cookies” and this song brings back some good memories. We would dance the “Stroll” to this song. Great cookie art. Uhhh not going to be seeing me in my skimpy maid outfit baking cookies. ha ha ha. This is a great post and I enjoyed reading it. Have a nice day.

  15. I so love your sketches. I wish I was half as talented as you are.

Never heard of the Cookies. Typical sound for that time. I like.

Love Vogue. That was a huge hit.

I ate some of the cookies. You knew I would.

Have a fabulous Thankful Thursday, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥

  16. I love cookies too, especially chocolate chip. That squirrel sure is cute. Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!

  17. Hi, Cathy!

Happy Thursday Art Date With Rain, dear friend!

I clicked to enable “cookies” on your site, dearie. You’ve got a lot of them. 🙂 It was fun to see the Cookie Monster sketch (In Living Color) dedicated to your cookie loving hubby DH. His eyes are popping over that dish of coolies you baked. Yessum, I remember young children carrying a chip, cracker, pretzel or piece of candy in each hand when I was little. I’m happy to know you prefer The Cookies’ original version of “Chains” to the Beatles cover. So do I! I also like the Cookies’ other major hit “Don’t Say Nothin’ Bad.” Looks like that cute lil chef you sketched has a big heart. 🙂 I’d love to sample her hot buns. 🙂 I’m sure daughter #2 appreciated receiving that birthday greeting with the chef cutie on it. If I’m getting it correct, I wish her a happy 31st birthday up there in Maine. I’m sure you son liked the batch of chocolate chip pecan cookies you made to celebrate his birthday. I hope Cookie Monster didn’t gobble them all up before your son even got a taste.

I am amazed by that picture of a white squirrel in that area of NC. He does indeed look tame and eager for you to toss him some treats as a way of paying for the photo op. Maybe he has a Patreon. 🙂 It hardly seems possible that it was 31 years ago that Madonna’s “Vogue” single and iconic music video were the hottest sights and sounds in popular mewsic. I hope your DD appreciates you posting the song and vid for her birthday.

Enjoy the rest of your week, dear friend Cathy!
