2019 The Little Mermaid #Artsketch Series ‘Hammerhead Shark’ #AtoZChallenge

Today’s illustration is that of the hammerhead shark from the second feature animated Little Mermaid film, Return to the Seas.
The inspiration for the hammerhead came from Glut the shark in the first film. You may recall the scary scene where Ariel and Flounder are chased by the mean Great White until he’s outwitted by the little princess taking him through a wreck ship porthole where he gets stuck.
My next image is the same as above, except I did a bit of photo-edit play using the Pixelmator ‘Newspaper’ effect. Which illustration does the hammerhead look the meanest?

I like the pencil sketch more. It has a 3-D effect. After staring at it for a while, I felt as if it will come out of the screen and pounce on me. The sketch of hammerhead shark is so real and scary.

Thank you for visiting. I do like kitties but I do not have any pets because of allergies. My blog name & design is mostly a play on words. Ah, you have a kitty named Midnight. That’s so cool because in my children’s book The Tale of Ole Green Eyes, the kitten in the story is also named Midnight. 🙂

Happy Tuesday and “H” day, dear friend! Yesterday, on “G” day, you needed to choose between a drawing of the dignified manservant Grimsby and Glut, the shark that chased Ariel and Flounder through the sea. I see you found a way to work a shark into your A to Z series after all by doing a sketch of a hammerhead for “H” day. It would be terrifying to come face to face with that monster racing through the water toward you. He looks powerful, agitated and hungry. While the black and white sketch affords us a better look at the detail that went into your drawing, the saturated aqua blue color of the sea in the second illustration produces an eerie, almost surreal effect and makes the hammerhead look even more menacing. Great job!

I was torn between Grimsby and Glut in yesterday’s post because I wanted to draw a shark. Thankfully I found this hammerhead in the TV series to include in my artwork series. I’m happy to learn you like the cyan newspaper effect I added to the second image. It does add eerieness to the picture. I like this effect whether I use B&W or a splash of color.
