5 Songs for the New Year, a Fabulous Resolutions Quote, #BoTB & #SYW

Good morning, Kittens and Dawgs! This is gonna be a long post. Just relax and unwind. We’re in no hurry. In fact, I’m not sure who’s going to show today but for those who are ready to boogie then,  I invite you step on the floor with my dance partners:  XmasDolly, Stacy, & Colette!  This week’s theme is songs relating to “the New Year“.

We stayed up late last night ringing in the new year our traditional way movie marathan, pizza, and a whole of snacking. Naturally, we watched the ball drop in Time Square, kissed, exchanged happy new year wishes, and tossed to 2018 with nothing but the best – Martinelli’s Sparkling Apple Cider. I’m certain I’m moving slow today…maybe not even present in Blogosphere at the moment but I’ll get around to dancing with you!

Please read….This is a weekly hop for mewsic enthusiasts regardless if you follow our weekly theme if you have tunes to share then we’re ready to dance with you. Otherwise, I ask that you do not link non-related posts below to boost traffic to your site. You’re welcome to leave your URL in comments with a brief description inviting me (and others) to check it out. Thank you!

[tweetthis]Tell a friend & hit the dance floor with songs celebrating the “New Year”! #music #4M @xmasdolly [/tweetthis]

How did you spend New Year’s Eve? Are you ready to for a new beginning? What mewsic moves you?

Next, I invite you to plug-in with the “Sparks” community hosted by good pal, Annie at McGuffy’s Reader where you can energize your soul and make the world a little better with sparks of encouragement. Let’s make the world a better place, one person at a time beginning with #1! 😉

Can you live by these resolutions with me?

Okay, this is my last segment. In keeping with my New Year’s theme, I decided to go with two song parodies for my first Battle of the Bands for 2018. Hey, if you can’t keep ’em then laugh at ’em (or yourself)!

Parody #1 Hella Cravings (Adele “Hello”)

Parody #2 All About That Change (Meghan Trainor “It’s About That Bass”)

You’ll find more awesome battles underway at some of these blog listed below (not everyone is doing the bi-monthly showdowns now) and if you’d like to be included in the fun, then contact Stephen requesting to be added to the list.

Angels Bark (Michele), Cherdo on the Flipside, Book Lover (Donna), The Doglady’s Den (Debbie), Your Daily Dose (Robin), Jingle Jangle Jungle (Mary), Mike’s Ramblings, Righting & Editing (Janie), STMcC Presents BoTB (Stephen, BoTB Manager)The Sound of One Hand Typing (John), & Tossing It Out (Lee).

Ok, here’s the drill. Voting is open to everyone visiting. There is NO wrong vote, except if you DON’T vote. You can start by telling me in comments which artist or in this case song you like best and why (optional).

Which parody gets your vote, #1 or #2?

[tweetthis]I just voted 4 my fave “New Year’s Song Parody” in this #BoTB. Join the fun! #newyears #parody #songs[/tweetthis]

Here’s another chance to get to know me a wee bit better in Share Your World, hosted by Cee’s Photography. If you don’t see the little Q&A section beyond this point, then all that means is I need to lift them from Cee’s site and add them. Chances are I’m working on that right now or else there isn’t one this week, which ever you may want to come back to in a few to see if this has changed.

Hit the dance floor next week with “Your Choice” mewsic and find out which parody wins this first round of BoTB. My next showdown is on the 15th, so mark your calendar. Keep those tunes playing and your body swaying, I’ll see ya around the cyber block. I’ll be back tomorrow for Cathy Chats for a bit of random conversation and mewsic! 😉

  1. HAPPY NEW YEAR, Cathy! 🙂 OK ok, I wanted to vote the other way, but I gotta give it to Hella Cravings. 🙂 Hope you and your family had a most auspicious Christmas and Happy New Year – here’s to a phenomenal 2018! Thanks for all the awesome dances, my friend!

    1. Stacy,

Yes, we had a wonderfl holiday season. I’m looking forward to great things this year, too. Thanks for visiting and for voting. I’ll see ya tomorrow on the dance floor, my friend!

  2. Thank you, Cathy. Great post. You do this so well. As you know, rough week so far…
I had an “unplanned blogging break”
    Annie at ~McGuffy’s Reader~

    1. Annie,

I’m sorry to hear you had a rough week. What a way to start the new year, huh? Here’s hoping things look better in the next few days. 🙂

  3. Wonderful spark, great songs, and i have to go with Hella Cravings, too. Hangry got me!

    1. Mimi,
WOW, this showdown is so lopsided! I didn’t see this one coming, either. Oh well, thanks for popping by. See ya soon!

  4. The minute I heard donuts and mac & cheese in the first one, I knew which I’d vote for. “Hella Cravings”!

Great playlist! I had a couple of the songs on the one I used for today, which I actually shared two years ago and decided “hey, it’s been a couple of years now.” Still, Ella Fitzgerald… what can I say? Only that she’s amazing. And I love that one by ABBA. All of these were great, even Kenny G, who usually just drives me nuts.

    Happy New Year, Cathy!

    1. John,

The mere mention of donuts would get DH’s vote, too. I saw a commercial last night for Kraft mac n’ cheese and instantly wanted some. What is with that stuff that’s so addictive? I haven’t had any in a few years, so I may have to break down and make it if nothing else kill the urge to have it for a couple more years. Have an awesome day. I’ll see you soon!

      1. It’s comfort food. O’Charley’s (I know you have one in Knoxville, I’ve been there) had a fantastic mac & cheese dish, with bacon and tomato. Haven’t seen it on the menu in a while, though. The cheap stuff is good too, though. We get the store brand M&C at Publix or Kroger, and it tastes almost as good as the Kraft.

  5. A WONDERFUL NEW YEAR TO YA, CATHY!

I’m gonna vote for the first one, ‘HELLA CRAVINGS’. I don’t think I’ve ever heard food sung about with greater passion. And on top of that, the line “The ice cream truck is the only reason I run anymore” LITERALLY made me laugh out loud! That was my first laugh of 2018. Thank you, Cathy!

    1. Stephen,

I’m glad to give you your first laugh for the new year. The lyrics are quite funny in the first which everyone seems to be eating up. *pun totally inteneded* Thanks for stopping in to vote. I’ll see ya in a few!

  6. Those 2 videos are hilarious but my favourite is Hella Cravings. Their voices are excellent and the lyrics are more difficult than the more famous duo. In fact, I think I will share the first one on Facebook since everyone thinks about diets at this time of yeast. Have a great first da6 to the new year.

    1. Birgit,

Thanks for voting. Yep, everyone thinks about dieting once the calendar reveals a brand new year. LOL I know I’ve eaten way too much during the holiday season and it’s time to get serious again. Maybe I should make a resolution to not overdo things from November through December 2018, what do you think? You have a good week, too! I’ll see you in a few. 🙂

  8. Hi, Cathy!

Happy New Year, dear friend! I was up late, slept in this morning, and now ready to do business for another year. I am sipping coffee and listening to your mewsical picks for welcoming 2018. This was the first time I ever heard the Otis & Carla duet “New Year’s Resolution.” What a treat! I also especially enjoyed listening to blues vocalist and musician Charles Brown’s “Bringing In a Brand New Year,” originally released at Christmas 1964 as the B side of his single “Christmas (Comes But Once A Year).” Brown specialized in seasonal songs. During the holidays in 1947, as singer and pianist for the R&B group Johnny Moore’s Three Blazers, Brown had a top 3 hit on the R&B Jukebox chart with “Merry Christmas Baby.” Inspired by Bing Crosby’s holiday classic “White Christmas,” “Merry Christmas Baby” became a seasonal standard for the African-American community. During the holidays in 1954 Brown released a solo version of “Merry Christmas Baby” b/w “The Original Lonesome Christmas,” and in the years that followed gave us several more Christmas single sides including “Please Come Home For Christmas,” “It’s Christmas All Year Round,” “Christmas In Heaven,” “It’s Christmas Time,’ “Christmas Finds Me Lonely Wanting You,” “Wrap Yourself In A Christmas Package,” “Christmas Questions, “Christmas Blues,” “My Most Miserable Christmas” and “Let’s Make Every Day A Christmas Day.” I am familiar with and enjoy the ABBA song and video “Happy New Year.”

In your BOTB parody playoff, I thoroughly enjoyed both. I have heard “All About That Bass” so many times that it annoys me. Nevertheless, I am still giving my vote to “All About That Change” because I am a fan of English comedian James Corden and his Carpool Karaoke sketch. James and Meghan entertained me a bit more with their parody.

Let’s make 2018 a great one, dear friend Cathy!

    1. Tom,

The new year always stirs a bit of nostalgia within for some reason and that’s why I selected a few tunes that predate my birth. I enjoyed learing the factoids on Charles Brown. I did not know this and am now interested in listening to some of the mewsic you listed. I appreciate you taking time to stop in to vote in my first Battle of the Bands of 2018. Happy New Year to you, my friend!

  9. Happy New Year girlfriend! Don’t know why I didn’t think of Ella’s song! Anyway I vote for Adelle’s hella cravings for sure too! Luv the tune! BIG HUGS!!!!

    1. Marie,

Thanks for dancing with me, my friend. I’m just now getting around to responding to comments. I appreciate you stopping in during the wee hours of the morning. We went to bed around 1 and I’m still trying to get myself going. It’s so Brrr cold here! I got your vote recorded and I’ll hop over to boogie with you soon! 😉

    1. Mary,

I’m glad you’re back online. Thanks for voting. I have you down for “Hella Cravings”. Many happy returns throughout 2018, my friend!
