Today’s illustration is that of the hammerhead shark from the second feature animated Little Mermaid film, Return to the Seas.
The inspiration for the hammerhead came from Glut the shark in the first film. You may recall the scary scene where Ariel and Flounder are chased by the mean Great White until he’s outwitted by the little princess taking him through a wreck ship porthole where he gets stuck.
My next image is the same as above, except I did a bit of photo-edit play using the Pixelmator ‘Newspaper’ effect. Which illustration does the hammerhead look the meanest?

I like the pencil sketch best 🙂

Ronel,
I’m anxious to try this sketch using the Procreate app and adding dramatic colors to make the whole scene pop out of my iPad! 🙂
So COOL! Extra Pawkisses🐾😽💞
Wow, great sketch! I think the pencil one is the most scary looking!
Jullian,
Sharks always give me the heebie geebies. I hope I never meet one face to face. Thanks for stopping by for a visit!
Wow! Great sketch, Cathy. I love the second sketch!
Thank you, Eugenia. I had a lot of fun illustrating the second scene on my iPad! 😉
Hi Cathy,
I like the pencil sketch more. It has a 3-D effect. After staring at it for a while, I felt as if it will come out of the screen and pounce on me. The sketch of hammerhead shark is so real and scary.
Great art work!!
Kislaya,
Thank you. I’m glad you thought my simple pencil sketch has a realistic appearance. A drawing of a shark is about as close that I’ll ever get to one of these creatures. lol
Brilliant job! I thing the B/W one looks meaner to me. All the best for the rest of the A-Z!
Nilan,
Thanks for visiting and commenting. You may wish to leave a breadcrumb for others to find a way to your site. Luckily, your gravatar account shows your blog for me to easily find you. I hope others know to do that, too.
OMG Girlfriend, are you trying to give me nightmares??? This guy gives me the willies for sure! hahaha Great job my friend! You ought to be very proud of yourself and tell your honey to give you a pat on the back cuz you deserve it. All of your pics really stand out… maybe Mr. Disney ought to give you a job! OH YEAH!!! Great job my friend can’t wait to see what comes for tomorrow! Woo Hoo.
Marie,
Thank you! Your continued support and encouragement mean so much to me. 🙂
To be honest, i don’t want to meet either of them in a dark alley — or behind the reef!
Mimi,
Me, either. I get the willies just thinking about going into the water.
Great drawing. I like the underwater look 🙂
This guy looks pretty menacing! This might give me nightmares.

Lee,
At least I conveyed the right sense to my readers with my illustration.

I agree with Bigit and Jade. The blue sketch is more menacing to me. 🙂 I see by your header and sidebar that you like cats. Here is a link to my photo post of Midnight who decided I should have a Sunday post, too!
Roland,
Thank you for visiting. I do like kitties but I do not have any pets because of allergies. My blog name & design is mostly a play on words. Ah, you have a kitty named Midnight. That’s so cool because in my children’s book The Tale of Ole Green Eyes, the kitten in the story is also named Midnight. 🙂
Another great job and love the sketch but he looks meaner in the Caribbean blue.
The one in blue looks menacing as it looks like it is in the water. Great job of drawing it.
The second one, although that’s probably just due to the watery color affect. I do like that textured look though.
Yes, I think the coloring makes him look the meanest, although I wouldn’t want to meet him in black and white either!
That shark certainly looks menacing and the aquamarine colouring only adds to it. Great job, Cathy! 😀 Your A to Z Challenge is going very well.
You did a great job with him! I do think the first one looks meaner.
Angie,
Thanks! 😉
Great job. You’re really working hard on the A2Z Challenge.
Have a fabulous day, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥
Sandee,
Thanks for being a part of my day and the challenge. I haven’t been on top of things like I should but I appreciate all of your support, dear friend!
Yep that second image looks great!

Duncan,
Thank you for visiting today. I am off to check out your contribution in today’s challenge.
Oh that’s one cool shark!
You might want to leave this fishie along. He looks awfully mean. 😉
Hi, Cathy!
Happy Tuesday and “H” day, dear friend! Yesterday, on “G” day, you needed to choose between a drawing of the dignified manservant Grimsby and Glut, the shark that chased Ariel and Flounder through the sea. I see you found a way to work a shark into your A to Z series after all by doing a sketch of a hammerhead for “H” day. It would be terrifying to come face to face with that monster racing through the water toward you. He looks powerful, agitated and hungry. While the black and white sketch affords us a better look at the detail that went into your drawing, the saturated aqua blue color of the sea in the second illustration produces an eerie, almost surreal effect and makes the hammerhead look even more menacing. Great job!
I wish you a safe and happy day, dear friend Cathy!
Tom,
I was torn between Grimsby and Glut in yesterday’s post because I wanted to draw a shark. Thankfully I found this hammerhead in the TV series to include in my artwork series. I’m happy to learn you like the cyan newspaper effect I added to the second image. It does add eerieness to the picture. I like this effect whether I use B&W or a splash of color.
