2019 The Little Mermaid #art sketch series ‘TREASURES’ #AtoZChallenge

Thanks for joining in today.  If you missed previous posts in The Little Mermaid Artsketch series you can find them easily under Latest Mews in my side menu.  ☞ ☞ ☞

Earlier in this month, I used Triton for my the letter K for King. I mentioned The Catfish Club Band when I introduced Ray-Ray for the letter ‘R’. I thought briefly about sketching Tip & Dash characters from the sequel but I wanted to incorporate Ariel’s grotto into my series which was the purrfect for today’s inspiration for Treasures.

This illustration got pretty involving and one that needs more attention.  I plan to recreate this design at another time. I hope to find a trace a time left before the month terminates, so I can tackle it again or add some touch-ups.

  1. This might be my favourite sketch this month!

    1. Sandy,

Thanks, my friend. Oh yes, I definitely am planning on revamping all my pencil drawings with color. My goal is to try to do it at last once a week beginning May 8th until I get them all done.

    1. Birgit,

Ariel’s treasures are nice. These are things and things can’t supplement for the heart’s desire – the love of a good man. A prince doesn’t have to be the ‘royal’ kind. I call DH my Prince Charming. Is he purrfect? No, but he’s purrfect for me and the love he shows/gives me is more than all the riches of the world! I’m blessed! 🙂

      1. You know, now that you mention it, I checked my spam and there are several comments that shouldn’t be there. I don’t get it!

  2. I enjoyed looking at the Treasure, and got a kick out of your additional T words… Trace, Time, Terminates, Tackles, Touch-ups. Now, I’ll add another one. Terrific!

    1. Trudy,

I wondered if someone might pick up on my ‘T’ words. When I think of it, I like giving my A to Z posts this little extra something. Other A2Zers do it, too.

  3. Hello Cathy,
This sure is a tough one. Drawing details need so much patience. You are a great sketcher. There are so many things that Ariel has collected from the Human world and she seems so happy!
    Wonderful 🙂

    1. Kislaya,

Giving my scene details challenges the mind and hand while bringing the sketch to life. I didn’t feel at all impatient with this art project. It was a lot of fun to draw.

  4. I’m in awe of people who can just “whip up” a drawing as skillfully as you have…and every day for a month, wowzers!

  5. Looking at this fantastic drawing makes me want to grab my colored pencils and get to work 😉

    1. Tamara,

Thanks for visiting. I apologize but my memory is slipping a bit, while your name sounds familiar, I don’t know how to get back to your blog and you didn’t leave your URL. Are you currently blogging? In time, I’ll grab my Prismacolor pencils to add color to this sketch but I’m glad you liked the first draft. Have a good day!

  6. Just stopping by on the AtoZ blog challenge. I’m glad I found your blog. Two years ago I did It’s a Mermaid World A to Z. Stop by and take a look at Afieldtriplife.com

    1. Claire,

A Mermaid World A to Z…now that sounds interesting. I will need to check out that series. 🙂 Thanks for sharing and for stopping in for the first time. 😉

        1. John,

Yeah, those things are at the bottom of the ocean, too. Let’s hope doesn’t bring any of that stuff to Scuttle. Can you imagine the trouble he might cause?

  7. I’ve so enjoyed your sketches this month. You’ve made this wonderful movie come to life again. Thank you for that.

Have a fabulous day, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥

    1. Sandee,

I’m glad that you’ve enjoyed The Little Mermaid art sketch series. It was fun to illustrate each character. I’ve wanted to try my hand at animated Disney figures for a while. The best thing is I learned a lot with each drawing, maybe more so than the past two years of random sketching. Thanks for hanging in here with me, my friend.

    1. Sharon,

I envy other artists and aspire to be like those who inspire me with their work. While you aren’t a sketch artist, you are artsy talent is found painting scenes with words inside one’s mind and that’s pretty pAwesome!

    1. Brian,

I appreciate you saying that, thanks! It sure looks like a great place for a little princess to retreat to admire her treasure stash.

  8. Hi, Cathy!

Happy “T” for Tuesday, dear friend! I am sipping black coffee as I consume your black & white “T.” 🙂 I do hope you can fill in this scene with color at some point because it is by far the most detailed sketch of The Little Mermaid series. It must have taken you quite some time to draw all of those treasures that surround Ariel in her grotto. I spotted numerous treasure chests and mystery boxes, a statue, a bust, a ship’s wheel, a globe and several urns and vases. You did a fine job of rendering every item, and once again, Ariel looks beautiful, feminine and natural (for a mermaid).

Nicely done, dear friend Cathy. Have a happy Tuesday and I’ll see you back here tomorrow for “U” day!

    1. Tom,

I will add color to this sketch. Next month, I’ll begin sharing in alphabetic order the pencil illustrations that I did not colorize during the challenge. This drawing did take a bit longer but one that I enjoyed very much doing. I really get sucked into making my scene intricate and I’m happy you noticed the various elements added. 🙂
