2019 April #AtoZChallenge Theme

Before you get going let me invite you to join me listen to this week’s 4M theme song picks. 😉

After last year’s challenge I was pumped thinking about going at it again this April but as the year pressed on, I lost my momentum, my drive, my enthusiasm! I was so very close to not giving it another shot but I am not a quitter and I knew that if I didn’t do it then I’d regret it later.  All it took was the gentle nudge of my good friends John and Lee expressing their hopes of me joining the 10th-anniversary celebration.

The last two years, I did art sketches and after hinting on my blog you aren’t surprised to learn that I’m sticking to that category for the April challenge, except this year I’m combining both pencil drawings and digital illustrations (iPad Procreate App & Apple pencil).  Also, I’m concentrating on a specific subject,  characters from the Disney animated movie and TV series, The Little Mermaid.

Some of the alpha-prompts may not be a purrfect fit for the Disney classic but at the very least it could pertain to the life of a mermaid in her underwater world or as a human on land.

Somedays I might share one sketch and other days I might share two as I did in this post depending on how well I do on time.  Whatever I share I look forward to you being a part of my journey as I embark on my 6th year (technically my 7th but I bombed on my first year) in the A to Z Challenge with The Little Mermaid Artsketch series on April 1st!

X💋X💋, Cathy

PS:  Be a sweetie, leave your direct A2Z Theme Reveal web address in comments so I as well as others can find you quickly. Thanks! 😘

    1. Hannie,

I’m glad you decided to see what I have up my sleeves this year for the challenge and am happy to have you along for the fun, too. Now, hopping over to see what your plans are for the month of April.

  1. this sounds like a very specfic topic. if I were you, I think I would have just use all the disney movies and not just the little mermaid, I didn’t even know there is a show. you didn’t say why you decided to choose the little mermaid, is ariel (I don’t remember if that’s her name) your favorite disney character? I’m not much of a fan.

good with the challenge. & have a lovely day.

    1. Lissa, I don’t have a particular reason for going with The Little Mermaid, but it is one of my favorite Disney animated movies. I wanted to do draw cartoon characters but I wanted the challenge of a specific film instead of going with all Disney animated pictures. Hopefully everyone will enjoy the fun.

  2. I am in for A-Z again this year but have yet to sign up. The reason is, I cannot decide on a theme. I usually do book reviews on my Reading blog but cannot decide if I want to do something additional on my regular blog. I have been so MIA there. ugh….what to do?

    1. Michelle,

That’s great you’re going to join the alphabet fun in April. I’m sure whatever you bring to the table it’ll be good and you’ll have tons of fun. We’d love to see you on the 4M dance floor again but I know it’s hard to get going in Blogosphere again once you’ve been away. Have a great day!

  3. Best wishes for the Challenge, Cathy! I know you’ll do well, as always, and will try and stop in here and there. Have a good weekend!

  4. Hello Cathy
Great to see your theme reveal and I shall enjoy following you and the LIttle Mermaid. Good luck with it all, although I think you’re super organised (unlike me!) I expect I shall be saying this for 26 days, but I’m so impressed with twhat can be done with the Ipad Procreate drawings, I need to find a friend with an Ipad to have a play!
    Have fun!

    1. Wren,

It is neat what you can do with the iPad. The Procreate app is a very useful tool and one of the best that I’ve found so far. Of course, it was one DH purchased for me whereas some of the others I’ve tried are freebies with limited capabilities. Maybe it’s a matter of you get what you pay for. lol I’m heading over to check out your theme reveal. Thanks for dropping by!

  5. Hi Cathy 🙂 I LOVE your Little Mermaid!!! Great sketch, you did a great job and of course, I’m singing that scene in my head right now…”part of your woooooooooorld….” 🙂

    1. Rain, I know what you mean. Ever since I decided to go with this theme “Part of Your World” has been stuck in my head. Thanks for dropping by for a visit!

    1. Thanks, Sandy! Right now I’m trying to get all my sketches done. Getting such a late start I decided to wait to add color to my designs until my pencil drawings are completed and if time permits try to do a few at a time. This means I might be working throughout next month and beyond to do it. No worries, just going with the flow and enjoying the process. 😉

  6. I tried to comment by iphone this morning but it just would not cooperate. Lesson learned. But returning your visit. Looks like you are going to have a lovely theme! I’ve started a list of blogs to follow so will jot down your link address so I can try to stay organized on that part this year lol Best wishes and see you in April if not before!!

    1. Katy,

Thanks for stopping by. Commenting via iPhone has hiccups sometimes but not generally when replying to commenters on my site rather when I leave a comment on another blog. It makes no difference if it’s a Blogger or WP site, my comments go “POOF!”. I will look forward to connecting with you in April. 😉

    1. Frederique,

Greetings and thank you for visiting. I sure hope you and the rest of the A2Z community enjoy my sketching adventure through the alphabet. I’m hoping over to see you next! 😉

  7. I love your sketch. For a moment there I wanted to sketch something too, bringing my art supplies down from the attic! Taking a leaf out of your book, I would love to include a sketch on the last post of my A-Z Challenge. Thank you!

    1. QueenBee,

Thanks! 😉 Yes, do include a sketch in your last post. That’ll be an extra nice touch to close out the event, imo. 🙂

  8. I hope you’ll enjoy daily drawings – the skills you get stay with you for life :). I did an #Inktober challenge last year and it was fun, and the dragonflies I picked for my theme back then stayed with me longer (people on social media seem to love them which gives me motivation.
My theme is connected to fantasy fiction, so I’m not sure if it’s your cup of tea:

    1. Melfka,

Oh, I’m enjoying myself quite a lot and can’t wait to share my illustrations with everyone. I hope you’ll find time to visit periodically next month. The inktober blogfest sounds fun and I shall have to keep that in mind this year. Happy writing and thanks for checking out my theme!

      1. I think Inktober is more social-media-oriented (mostly Instagram, thought I’ve seen people posting on Twitter and Facebook too), but it’s definitely fun, so do check it out! And if you decide to both pick a theme and match it with the official prompts list, it becomes quite a challenge.

  9. Wow! Centering on one movie…this will be cool and a movie I still have to see. I’m certain the Disney version isn’t as depressing as the real fairy Tale. I am going to look forward to your posts but I am sitting this one out this year

    1. Birgit,

I almost decided against doing it but Lee and John reeled me back into it. It’s good to have friends to keep you focused. I can’t wait to share with you my art sketches! You definitely need to watch the Disney classic film. It’s a lot of fun!

    1. Mimi, your no theme policy is a purrfect fit! I hope to visit you as frequently as I do normally. Here’s to sharing the celebration fun with you, my friend!

    1. Alana,

Oh yeah, I drew a pair of parakeets for you! I thought that turned out pretty good if I say so myself. lol There’s no harm in singing my own praise is there? 😀 I stopped by earlier this morning and checked out your theme reveal which is right up my alley. I can’t wait to check out your photos next month.

  10. Oh my gosh, I am so into your sketches Cat! Love “The LiL Mermaid” for sure! I’m telling you Mr. Disney is going to be knocking on your door. You really should be drawing! hmmmmmm What about for Children’s books? I’m sure you could get a gig with one of those companies and become famous! Oh my gosh!!! Anyway, must start to boogie. I need to find your tunes… I knows there here somewhere! You didn’t sweep them under the rug did you??? bwahahaha love you lots girlfriend!!!

    1. Marie,

Thanks, darlin’ but I don’t think ole Walt is going to be banging down my door just yet. 🙂 I surely appreciate the shot of confidence you gave me, though. 😉

  11. Cathy!

I’m excited to see your sketches and drawings for The Little Mermaid. This sounds like a great challenge and something you can share with your new grandbaby. I know you’ve already been over to my reveal, but in case any of your readers want to take a peek: I’ve got 2 reveals!

    Reveal for Literary Gold http://bit.ly/2HI2dxo
Reveal for Jingle Jangle Jungle http://bit.ly/2FaqNnR

    1. Jacqui,

I thought we met the previous year but it was definitely through the A2Z challenge. Did you do a theme reveal post yet? I know you’re super busy with your book launch and maybe it’ll show up later but I thought I’d ask.

  12. Loved that movie and your drawings are great! Glad you decided to participate again this year. I’ll be posting my reveal later today.

  13. I used to do a lot of pencil sketching when I was a lot younger. Hopefully, your AtoZ journey will inspire me to pick up the pencil once again. Best wishes, Varad.

    1. I used the A2Z as a way to catapult myself into art sketching. If I held myself accountable without fear for the world wide web then regardless of how my drawings turned out then I figured I can do just about anything. lol Thanks for dropping by and here’s to celebrating with you next month in the A2Z fun!

    1. John,

I’m delighted to be a part of the decade bash. I just wish I could say I’ve been doing it that long but I’ve been a part of it for a good number years. It really helps me to become a better organizer in my blogging activity and it gives me the structure for a whole month. The rest of the year I have figured out for the most part or at least for certain days of the week as you know. Here’s to celebrating the fun with you another year, my friend!

    1. Tamara,

I think your boys might enjoy The Little Mermaid even though it’s thought of as a girls movie. It’s really great for the whole family. We were so surprised by the creative, fun writing. Thanks for visiting!

  14. What a fun theme. I won’t be joining as it doesn’t really fit with what I do. but I’ll enjoy other folks’ posts. I always do.

Have a fabulous day and week, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥

  15. Oh, no. Is it AtoZ time again? I had totally forgotten. I will probably do it again because it gets me blogging. However, I have no theme reveal. I usually just fly by the seat of my pants. I’ll have to think about it when there aren’t a 100 other things calling for attention.

    1. Flying by the seat of my pants is my specialty generally speaking but I’ve learned over the past few years to be a bit more specific with the A2Z Challenge with this year being honed in even more. Did you sign up to be a part of the challenge? Don’t forget to do that. I think the deadline for that is closing in soon. Anywho, it’s so great having you stop by this morning to check out my theme reveal. 😉

  16. Hi again, dear Cathy!

I am excited to have you confirm that you will be presenting more of your artwork in this year’s A to Z. I thoroughly enjoy your artistic touch no matter what the subject, and this year’s theme is going to be a winner for sure. I love how the burst of color brought your Little Mermaid to life. She looks like she could be a member of the Ruby Flipper dance company. 🙂 I look forward to seeing more of The Little Mermaid and other characters from the Disney film and TV series as we wind our way through the month of April. Best wishes for a great A to Z run again this year, dear friend!

    1. Tom,

It surprised me just how skimpily Disney dressed their princesses. Ariel would definitely fit in with the Ruby Flipper dance company. Oh, that’s just too cute! You’re so darn clever. That’s just the way DH is, too. Y’all would get along quite well. 🙂

    1. Hey Sue,

Thanks for dropping by to see what I’m doing in April. I’m heading your way to see what you’re sharing for the blogfest.

  17. A great way to refresh memories of childhood favourites. All the very best for the challenge.

    1. Nila,

Ever since I decided to go with The Little Mermaid theme I’ve had the movie soundtrack stuck in my head. Thanks for dropping by and I’m looking forward to your visits next month.
