10 POP Chart Hits from 2002

Awww Mondays hosted by Sandee from Comedy Plus.

Welcome to the Sunday edition of Monday’s Music Moves Me. Patrick from Adventures in Weseland is tasked with coming up with August themes but this Monday is an off-week so whatever music moves you is A.Ok!

When I pulled together my James Bond Theme Song series Die Another Day BOTB Showdown at the beginning of the month, I was curious about other songs that came out that year. A quick Internet search provided a list of Billboard hits on Wiki from which I began pulling in no particular order song titles I immediately recognized and it was no time before I had 10 tracks on my playlist. How many of these do you remember?

Hits from 2002 playlist:

  1. Complicated ~Avril Lavigne
  2. Hero ~Enrique Iglesias
  3. All You Wanted ~Michelle Branch
  4. Whenever, Wherever ~Shakira
  5. Soak Up The Sun ~Sheryl Crow
  6. A Moment Like This ~Kelly Clarkson
  7. Can’t Fight The Moonlight ~LeAnn Rimes
  8. Sk8er Boi ~Avril Lavigne
  9. A New Day Has Come ~Celine Dion
  10. The Game of Love ~Santana ft. Michelle Branch
The theme this week is whatever music moves you for freedom of song choice week.

This is a music linky party.  Your co-hostess are StacyAlana, and Me.   Every other week we have a suggested music theme (see weekly prompts here) to build your song set around and all participants share YouTube or Vimeo videos for our music enthusiasts.  Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.

This is CAAC signing off, have a boogietastic week! 🤗💋, Cathy

  1. Hi Cathy, I remember some of those tunes. That really was a big year for Avril Lavigne. 🙂 Love the music notes humour! Thanks for dropping by the Den yesterday and have a great rest of the week!

    1. Debbie,

That was a good year for Avril. She’s a talented girl. I’m glad you enjoyed the set. It’s always nice when you come by for a visit.

  2. I’m surprised at how many songs I knew because I can’t think of many 90s songs until you made me think. I enjoyed most. Poor Avril became very ill with Lyme disease

    1. Birgit,

I didn’t know this about Avril. Lyme disease is a serious condition. I never imagined ticks could be such trouble. When I was a kid, I got a tick on me every summer. Our biggest worry was to not leave its head buried in the skin. I hope she’s not having many issues now from Lyme’s. It surprised me how many songs I remembered from this era. I guess I just needed my brain jiggled.

  3. Awww on the guitar playing kitty. Adorable. I also love the funny. Made me laugh out loud.

    Your playlist rocks.

Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥

    1. Sandee,

I’m happy you found time to boogie with me. That kitty is adorable. When I see pix like this, I think “Somebody has too much time on his/her hands.” lol

  4. I had pretty much given up on Pop after about 1995, so these were all unfamiliar. I liked the Sheryl Crow song, but that’s about it. Still, good idea for a playlist!

  5. Enjoyed the line-up! I love watching new talent emerge under the guidance of icons such as Santana (Michelle Branch) The Game of Love was a favorite song, though I don’t recall the video 😉

    1. Robin,

I heard these tunes mostly while our kids were online. They spent a lot of time at YouTube during their hours away from their home school studies. Music was a great way to connect with them and still is. I like hearing about the artists they are interested in these days.

    1. Patrick,

2002 seems like just yesterday. I sure do miss having our kids under our roof. Revisiting artists from this year filled my heart with some sweet memories. 🙂

    1. Hey Nicole,

I frequently play the same game of catch up. I’ve been rather lousy about keeping up with folks since April. It’s all that I can do to make minimal rounds. I know this will improve, cross fingers and say a prayer, but it can get frustrating. Thanks for popping by to visit, dear heart!

  6. Cute staff meeting cartoon. I knew the grand total of one song from this set, but it was nice listening. I “discovered” April Lavinge back in July – I didn’t know either song but I liked them both. Celine Dion and Shakira were also favorites of the list, along with Santana.

    1. Alana,

It’s interesting to dig through the music archives from a period you think you know little. At least that’s the way I felt. More often than not, I am clueless. The thing about the Internet it allows old stuff to become new for the first time.

  7. Hi, Cathy!

Happy Paw-some 4M Monday on Sunday, dear friend! I hope you and DH are having a nice weekend.

Awww… I just wanna smooch that kitty… but I don’t want to interrupt him when he’s getting ready to do some guitar pickin’. If he’s taking requests, I’d like to hear something by The Stray Cats. 🙂

As I told you last time, by the mid 90s I had left my job in MTV and was out of the loop as far as current mewsic was concerned, and that was certainly true in 2002, because I don’t remember any of the songs in your block! However I know the names of all the artists in the set.

Strange as it seems, I am only familiar with “Complicated” through recent covers uploaded to YouTube by two acts that I closely follow – Romanian producer Andrei Cerbu’s singing discovery Andreea Munteanu:

… and a fine version by the Erie, PA, rock band First To Eleven:

I enjoyed Avril’s original, plus the songs by Michelle Branch, Sheryl Crow and LeAnn Rimes. My Pick to Click for this post is the last song and video, the collaboration of Santana and Michelle Branch on ” The Game of Love.”

I like that mewsical cartoon at the end. Very clever!

Have a safe and happy week, dear friend Cathy!

    1. Tom,

That jammin’ kitty is tuning up to bring to you your request with “Stray Cat Strut”

Thanks for the reminder that you featured these covers of Avril’s song, “Complicated”. I say I’d have to agree with you the best pick in the set is “The Game of Love” with Santana & Michelle Branch. Have a boogietastic week, dear friend!

    1. Brian,

Had we not had teens in the house in 2002 then I’m sure I would not only not know the songs but the artists as well. I guess there’s always the possibility some of these tunes would’ve made it to my ears if I had still be working. 🙂

  8. I don’t like most music from the 1990’s on, but I do like Avril Lavigne. 🙂 Hope you are having a nice summer. XO

    1. Ellen,

Music from the 90s and beyond seemed a blur but after going through the songs from that decade I discovered I knew more than I remember which I suppose is credited to my children, especially my daughters who liked some of these artists. Nothing extra ordinary happening this summer other than making vacation plans. That keeps us charged with enthusiasm as our time keeps drawing near!
